I have to laugh at the lone negative review of this tea house, I think the person was missing the point the fact that they found the garnish in the center of the plate lacking and they referred to the scone as a blah muffin was too funny. Obviously this person is ignorant to real tea houses and how they work. The high tea is generally a set menu- if you want variety and ability to pick your menu there are lots of restaurants to choose from so leave the tea house reviews to people who appreciate the tea house experience. This place is great everything from the exceptional service, the elegant ambiance to the wonderful home made food.

We have visited the Painted Tea Cup about 3 or 4 times in its old location and 2 in its new location, across the street and next to the Wawa. It's in a wonderful old house with dining in the Living Room next to the fireplace or in the Dining Room next to the bay window. A tiny shop with interesting items fills the foyer as you enter. There is no waiting room because there is no waiting; all is by reservation only.
It is true that there are no choices about menu, but every time we have been there, it is something different and we've loved it every time. There is almost always a croissant among the finger sandwiches. There is a huge selection of teas, and the most selection of what to put into your tea than any other tea room we've been to. We all three consider The Painted Teacup the best of all the many tea rooms in the area, even though it is the highest priced, at $19 a person. The hostess, who is also the owner, is very gracious and quick to see to our needs. As for the complaints of the woman who was so negative, she was being ridiculous/absurd -- one doesn't go to a tea room expecting diet meals. You adjust your other meals before and after to accommodate the extra fat calories and just enjoy!
I have only two complaints. One is that only two pots of tea are served per table, causing guests to have to colaborate which tea they will agree on together, but I have since been told that one can request individual pots (I did not get this impression while I was there, but I will definitely ask for it next time. She says she does this to make sure the tea is just as hot for second and third cups as the first--a valid reason; but I'd rather have a cooler cup and my own selection. The other negative is the plastic over the tablecloths. I am thankful for the tablecloths, which are a must in my opinion, but the plastic ruins the effect, although in the hostesses defense, I would have spilt on her tablecloth had it not been there. Still, I think the extra laundry washing of tablecloths is worth it for the ambiance.

as an employee of the painted tea cup I would like to inform you that everything here is made fresh the morning of the tea parties. Tea at the Four Seasons, and the Ritz costs twice as much as our tea does, you also do not get to choose your menu. At the painted tea cup you have a wider selection of teas. We have been told our environment, quality and hospitality exceed that of the Ritz and the Four Seasons. Our FRESH cheese cake and HOMEMADE pound cake are also never served on the same day so we could not have possibly been as terrible as you claim since you clearly came back on multiple occasions and left without a word of discontent. if anyone has dietery needs such as gluten free or no meat we will gladly accomidate them. All you need to do is let us know at the time of yur reservation so we can prepare you a seprate menu.

Clearly other reviewers of this establishment have never truely enjoyed classic real high tea. For the cost of this I could have had a full healthy lunch in a center city restaurant. I had no choice of food/menu. The healthiest thing on the plate was a small mixed greens salad, I mean 5 leaves of greens. The rest, a plate of over sugared sweets, frozen quiche and blah muffins, it was for the birds. My blood sugar wont stabalize for days after this. And if the 50% sugared "lunch" wasnt bad enough there was a dessert plate after, of frozen cheesecake, and cookie cutter pound cake pieces. Carb and Sugar overload, if thats your thing, you'll love this. But a menu selection of tea sandwiches or salads would have been nicer then a bake sale plate for lunch. This was inappropriate to assume everyone that visits would enjoy eating whatever you place in front of them that day. Forget gluten free, sugar free, carb free. I would never reccomend this place to anyone. for similiar pricing you can enjoy a fabulous tea at the Bellevue, Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton, all priced $24-29.00. Go there, not here.

I've been to The Painted Tea Cup on many occasions with my friends. Mary will start you out with your choice of teas and breads with Clotted cream and butters, then move on to the main course a platter with about 10 different finger items.
Desserts are all home made and have varied every time I've been there. The new location is so warm and cozy. There are also many gift items for sale.
Tea with friends is the best!

Just returned from the Painted Tea Cup and had to tell about my experience. I can't tell you just how much I enjoyed High Tea. I took my friend here for as the owner called it.."just a happy Thursday" and we had an incredible time. The atmosphere was amazing, the aromas tantalizing. The food was incredible! This is a great place for some "girlfriend time". Mary was wonderful. I would highly recommend this place to everyone looking for something different to do with a friend. And the price is right, too!

Think back to what we read about social teas that were held between queens and other high classed socialites. Now you too can be part ot that. The aromas hit you as soon as you open the door. It is a great place to go and relax while catching up with your girlfriends.

This is an exceptional tea room. The place is spotless and the setting is right. As soon as you walk in the door the smells are soothing and inviting. There are many different teas to choose from and the food is delicious and the service is world class. Everything is presented on beautiful china and the food is described so that you know exactly what you are eating. Please don't let the location stop you from coming. There is parking just outside the door. You must make a reservation for tea especially on Saturday.

My mom is a frequent visitor to the Painted Tea Cup and has told many friends and relatives about this quaint store. Homemade goods are sold there such as soaps, jellies, and other great products. You can also have a small luncheon in the store with friends! Overall, a unique, small store with great products and service.
