In response to Shane... I am the owner of this "poor, neglected, starving,...as you put it, dog" lol. WoW...you people are truely pathetic. Chia, our Shar Pei, our "FAMILY" was stolen by Shane and his wife last spring. My daughter who IS 6 YEARS OLD was completely crushed. We made missing flyers with her picture and put them up in gas stations, laundry mats, grocery stores..all over St. Marys, Parkersburg, South PKB, Mineral Wells, Marietta. We also took down the license plate number of Shane's daughter and gave it to a PKB police detective, who ran the plates. We also went to the Parkersburg Humane Society with Chias pictures and a picture of Shanes daughters vehicle and license plate. The Parkersburg Humane society workers were very dedicated to helping our family get our dog back. By the help of good people and investigation we were able to get Chia back from these "thieves" and she was returned to her family. Shane, you are a compulsive liar and if you ever try to steal our Chia again there will be more consequences I ASSURE YOU! DO NOT MESS WITH MY FAMILY! Oh and one last thing....for a dog that is so neglected...as you put it. She is seen by her vet every 6 months. She is treated with Frontline every month. SHe is walked and ran at least once a week. She is NOT EVER WITHOUT FOOD OR WATER!!! SHE IS NOT UNDERWEIGHT NOR HAVE SKIN ABRASIONS!!! SHE WEIGHS 50lbs!!!! PLUS SHE WAS THE RUNT OF THE LITTER. SHE MAS MORE MEAT ON HER BONES THAN YOU DO! Crack will do that. So you may want to lay off the crack Shane. My vet bills ran me $1,200 last year. How much was yours? Our dog is our family and she gets unlimited love and attention from me and my children. DO NOT MESS WITH CHIA OR MY PERSONAL PROPERTY EVER AGAIN. DO NOT TURN OFF OUR GAS THIS WINTER EITHER. HOW SAD IS IT TO TURN OFF SOMEONES GAS IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER WITH SMALL CHILDREN?????

Any organization that allows adoption of an animal for their one year old or newborn child should have their heads examined. All this does is lead to neglect of the animal and that is exactly what happened in a case I am all too familiar with. Now this poor, good natured dog has no life at all. She is tied to a tree with only shade for shelter and virtually no human contact. She has been left out in the cold for the last two winters and their neighbors have been sneaking the poor thing food and water when the owner isn't home. The harness she wears has rubbed off most of the hair on contact areas and her ribs are pertruding. We are powerless to help and have to watch this poor dog suffer. The Humane Society knows this dog and much to our dismay are friends with the owner. Complaints go unlogged ... they could truly care less.

In attempts to give a dog a loving home, I was denied. The dog was going to be an outside pet (not by any choice of my own) but was not going to be neglected, tied to a box, or forgotten by any means. In knowing who I was and that I was present at the shelter DIRECTLY in front of them, they proceeded to call my home and inform my family that I wasn't allowed to have the dog. I found it to be a slap in the face. I love animals and was insulted at the fact that they would presume I would neglect it just because it would be outdoors. I will never adopt from this shelter again. I found my current dog in the Bulletin Board and he is anything but neglected. He goes to the park, car rides, on family vacations and gets regular flea/tick meds and baths. He is WELL taken care of. If they expect to find these dogs loving homes, I suggest that start showing people some common courtesy.

When we took the kids from our after school program down to see the animals, the staff were very nice to all of the kids, and answered all of their questions. They even helped the kids pet some of the kittens and talked to them about how to properly handle pets.
They also provide numerous hand sanitizer units around the shelter for people to use. I think doing this is just one more example of how they really care about the animals they have.

This is a well maintained shelter for stray animals, they help get them adopted, they take applications and are very thorough with the expectations. Also they make sure your coming back to get them spayed and neutered.
