Prince William Emergency Vet is superb

by c v.

Went in at 6am, seen immediately. Competent efficient care for my cat with no exaggerated bill. (MY cat had an infected paw.) I definitely recommend. Affordable for emergency care. Ressonable drug prices.

Anyone's qualified?

by Hugh S.

I took my dog here once.
Nurse promised he was perfectly fine.
Doctor then saw him and promised he was ok and recommended some unrelated surgery procedure as he grew older.
Called later to follow up with a few questions and the receptionist started giving us her medical opinion on how urgent this unrelated surgery is and refused to put me through with the doctor.
This place looks sketchy from outside and its staff is just as shady.

Slow, disorganized and expensive

by Susan D.

My dog was bleeding spots of blood which indicated a urinary tract infection. As it was 7:30 am on a Sunday when my own vet was closed, I took her to this vet. They took us to an exam room and told me it would be 5-10 minutes. Forty minutes later, no vet. I went out and inquired First they said it was a shift change--then they changed it to other more pressing emergencies. Whatever the reason,at the very least they could have let me know what was happening. The vet finally came in ,and after examining my dog, she wanted to do $940.00 worth of tests (urine, blood, xray, etc. etc.) I said I was not going to spend $1000 and just wanted the urinalysis, thinking I might get some antibiotics until I could get to my own vet. The vet finally said that the two urinalysis test showed nothing to indicate antibiotics were needed--and she would need to do a urine culture that would be yet another $100. I ended up paying $300 for an exam and three types of urine tests. The next step was to get my bill and get out of there. Twenty minutes after the final discussion with the vet I still had no bill. Finally the vet came out and said she was having trouble entering the payment code for the urine culture into the computer, and didn't know how much to charge me. The receptionist tells her to "go ask Heidi." I guess if Heidi stayed home then no one would know what things cost. The vet disappeared again. Ten minutes later, still no bill. I start ed leaning on the receptionist's counter and tapping out various songs on the counter with my waiting credit card. The receptionist finally got the hint, went into the back and came out with my bill. They never did figure out what to charge me for the urine culture--they included a flat $100 for miscellaneous lab tests. You would think that they would have a list of prices somewhere or someone else to do the bill processing so that the vet could spend her time saving lives. The vet was doing both the bookkeeping and doctoring while everyone else on the staff was just passing the buck.

Great emergency care, but pricey.

by Andrea F.

We were new in town and had not found a vet when my two dogs got into a heated argument over a chew toy leaving one with a torn ear. PWVC were calm, pleasant and gave clear directions to get there. Upon arrival, they took us right in. Our dog was examined, sedated, treated and given mult meds to take home. They were patient and efficient, though as with all ER Vets I've been to, they were on the pricey side. If it can't wait, I recommend PWVC.

PROS: Patient and kind emergency care.
CONS: Pricey for regular visits.

Overall, great emergency service

by Paula F. | insider Insider | Rank: 18,482

I've had occasion to take 3 of my dogs to Prince William Emergency Vet. Two of the 3 experiences were extremely positive, with only one having a glitch. The glitch was the fact that while my dog was anesthetized (had to have wound cleaned due to a bite by another dog), I went ahead and had them clip his nails. I told the vet tech that she was clipping them too short, and she ended up hurting my dog. She hadn't even brought the styptic powder with her in the room to do the nails (which is standard practice). I ended up taking the clippers away and doing them myself and cleaning his ears myself because I didn't trust the tech at this point. The docs and other staff were WONDERFUL, just this one person on one occasion tainted the experience. Then again, I'm very protective of my "babies" and am like a mother bear with her cubs where they are concerned. Excellent EMERGENCY care, though.

PROS: Excellent Emergency Care
CONS: Bad nail trimming experience
