Is this the same Brian Altaffer now working in La Grande, OR for Ty Bennett roofing? How many Brian Altaffers who are shady roofers can there be? He is NOT licensed in OR but is advertising in adjacent states for roofers. He apparently has burned all of the possible legitimate subcontractors in OR. Reading the reviews here, I am guessing that word has spread through the illegal community too. I know a contractor who was stiffed by Brian. Amazing he's all the way out West. His phone number is 541-786-4622 and is affiliated with Ty Bennett Roofing who is licensed. Good luck to those of you searching for him.

Brian is the shadiest contractor I have ever dealt with. He follows hail storms around and takes advantage to insurance companies and people looking to get their property fixed in a bind. He started the job on our house and the disappeared for over 6 weeks. The office manager refused to give us his cell phone and said he was in the midwest dealing with a crisis and was rude when we demanded he call us back. He eventualy came back to finish the job but it required my husband visiting the office DAILY (who has time for that?) until he finally came over. Even though this work was done over three years ago, I felt strong enough to write this (which I never take time to do). Since our roof was replaced, we've had recurring leakes (something we did not have prior to replacing it). I know one person had a great experience with Brian (as did one of my neighbors). In my neighbor's case, it was a simple, straightforward job at RIGHT AFTER THE HAIL STORM which is probably what Brian does. Takes care of the first few clients and then screws the rest. Did he handle the insurance company for us, Yes, but in my opinion, that was to get more $$$ out of them so that he could mess up some things that were not in need of repair in the first place. The "characters" who came to our house to do repairs were very questionable and I made sure my husband was there during the repairs. I am an educated, professional person who owns a business and always does right by my clients. I don't like to write negative reviews and never take the time to do so. I recommend you never hire Brian, ever, or anything.

Bradbury still lives in the same place and is moving to Newburyport Mass in the next couple months so if you're still trying to serve him do it now, before you lose him again and can't find him

A Step Above Construction, Inc. is an interesting NH-registered corporation, with two officers: Bethany Bruington, 2805 Molimar Dr., Plano TX 75075 and James T. Bradbury, 58 Varney Road, Dover NH 03820. The registered agent in NH is Casey Tretter, 1 Portsmouth Avenue Suite 5, Stratham NH 03885.

We have won a court case against Mr. Bradbury, but cannot locate him to have him served. The phone number given for the company is a gas station and car repair, which is also interesting.

They have ripped off people all over this state, and no doubt in other states as well. Yes, they left garbage everywhere (violation of state and federal law, btw), as well as raising the price several times, doing a terrible job that required re-doing by a reputable roofing firm, and causing damage to our property.

I don't know about illegal alien workers, but I did recognize two of *our* roofers working the rides at one of the NH fairs recently, from which you can draw your own conclusions.

Clearly, the Sheriff's Deputy attempting service was lied to, and further action *will* be taken.

Good luck, everyone!

I really should have done my homework prior to signing the contract with Brian but my wife and I were in a bind, we had a tree fall on our house and needed a contractor ASAP to fix our roof, window and side of the house. Brian met with us and assured us he would capable of performing the work and could start in a week. Two weeks went by before anyone from a steep above construction ever showed up; I was under the assumption that Brian was going to be doing the work him self, that was not the case Brain subbed out what I believe to be illegal aliens (Brazilians) that could NOT speak a word of English, again being in a bind I let them go on with there work.

During the process of the illegitimate aliens attempting to fix my house, they left trash and scraps for me to pick up every night, spilled roofing nails on my driveway and road I got a flat as did two people on my block ( I paid to fix the tires) and in the end when the work was supposedly finished the roof leaks, the window doesn??t not shut and lock correctly and the siding on my house where a step above construction did there wonderful work does not match , so now I need to have the house re-sided.

I??m in the process of opening a claim with the BBB and have also reported them to the INS.

I will never again use or suggest that anyone use ??A step above construction?

Mark

I'm sorry someone believes they had a bad time with Brian Altaffer. My experience with A Step Above, and Brian in particular, was tremendous. He worked with my insurance company and, while my insurance co said they wouldn't pay to have the house resided after a hail storm, persistence on Brian's part worked miracles! The new roof and all new siding were paid for! Hats off to Brian and his group - it was a wonderful job all around. My home looks beautiful!! I'm very grateful to him for all he did and highly recommend him!

Brian has no credibilty. He is a flyby night contractor which follows storms. His contract for a free estimate in which he has you sign has a clause that he is entitled to 25% of the job if you choose a different contractor. He is a car salesman, he paints this rosey picture of his experience and states he has been in the State of New Hampshire for 3 years, false. Do a google search for Mr. Lying Altaffer. He hires subcontractors, will be gone and is working under this companies name. He is a crook and a shister. Tell him you went with another contractor and He turns ugly. One of my neighbors went with him and he didnt do what he said he was going to do. Consumer beware, a true snake in the grass, Do your homework.

PROS: none
CONS: the list is too long to state...do your homework Brian Altaffer sucks
