City Sun Tanning is within walking distance from the East Village and nearest to Union Square. The staff are informative and willing to answer any questions about packages, beds, lotions, etc. I thought the damp cloth with fresh lemon fragrant was a great addition to any previous tanning salon I had been to.

I had such a great experience with one of the employees named Kenny. Long story short- he refunded me money (that may have been due to an error on my part) no questions asked. Very friendly and extremely polite. I looked on the website to see if there was a place to write in about my very positive experience, but only found an email. I received a reply from the owners of the salon the next day- one of the nicest, kindest responses. I was thrilled and hope that with this feedback- they can generate more business (although it doesn't sound like they're hurting for customers)! Please go here.. I will continue to talk about this experience to people I know.

I just signed up for an unlimited membership, having switched from my old tanning salon and being recommended this place as the best. The service was great - Kenny answered my questions and even gave me the student discount after seeing I was holding an id. I didnt even know it was offered there so that was really nice. I was able to tan on my first day after signing up and was really impressed by the machines. The place is very clean, spa-like, and I'm definitely looking forward to being a member there.

I have lived in LA, New York and Dallas and have never found a tanning salon that compares with City Sun. The high pressure bed is amazing! Their beds do not give a fake tan look, but a golden "real sun" look. I highly recommend this place not only for the quality of the equipment, but also for the friendly service.

I never write reviews, but I felt compelled to here (everyone has been asking me where I went !!)
I'm from Florida and love to rock a glowing tan, I'm so glad I've found a Happy place to tan (energy is so important)
Employees were nice and smiling (which after a long day was nice). The form was like taking a test but I guess that is for safety reasons. The waiver is on the BACK of what you sign, they don't tell you that.
I love the wet towels that smell DIVINE! (don't forget to grab one when you walk to your room).
Clean and little mints ...its my escape to the beach!
Pitfall - Sometimes there isn't anyone at the front and the line piles up, when everyone checks in they accompany that person to their tanning room. I just have to TRY to go at less traffic times.

I love this place! Seriously, I would not even think of tanning anywhere else. Everyone that walks through the door is greeted with a friendly face and great personality. I love the staff there! Gabi and Kenny are so helpful! They are always able to make suggestions on lotions and beds. The store is very clean, welcoming, and has a lot of options for people who just want to get a tan before going to the beach or anyone tanning year round. I've been a client for over a year and never have had a bad experience.

City Sun talks you into, and takes your money for, tanning packages, and if you don't use the package within a certain time frame it expires. So what happens if you can't tan within the time frame (tanning isn't at the top of my priority list, that would be reserved for things like working for a living), ultimately, they take your money and never provide you with the service. Their pitiful excuse was that they had books to close . . . absolutely irrelevant. They received the money, they took that money into income when received--what difference does it make when you use the facilities? They should at least assign a cash value to the service so that if rates jump up dramatically (and they haven't) you get the benefit of the value you have already paid to apply to current services. I will not use their services again.

Never tried the tanning thing before. I googled "best new york tanning" on a whim and found City Sun via this website. They gave me a little bit of a ribbing when I asked a ton of lame questions, but were cool about it and very informative.

I walked out having spent a bit more than what I was expecting, but the experience was very high-end and spa-like, and the results were good so I had no regrets. I look forward to going back and using the rest of my sessions.

I've been getting ready for my wedding and honeymoon in Hawaii. I've never tanned before but decided to try it. Boy am I glad I did and that I went to City Sun. They were totally patient with me--explained everything, went the extra mile to make me comfortable. I'm a little fair-skinned and they made sure I ramped up slowly to get a great even tan. Plus the whole experience is so nice and relaxing--which you really appreciate as you're going thru the craziness of wedding planning. The big day is next weekend and I couldn't be happier with the results. And after Hawaii I plan to get some sun even during winter right here in New York at City Sun.

I read the below review (referring to the staff as rude) and I have no idea what they're talking about. When I went to City Sun I was greeted by an extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. They explained everything to me thoroughly and the place was clean, well presented (think upscale spa....not your average tanning salon) and the amenities were great.

After being at City Sun, I would not go anywhere else!

I just signed up and I love this place! The staff was very friendly and knowledgable. They give you free water, lemon scented towels and even have spray deodorant for when you are done. I did price comparisons of numerous salons and this is by far the best value. I really don't know why people say it is expensive because for the city it is a great price.

I went to City Sun after trying several tanning salons throughout New York's five boroughs.
City Sun is by far the best place I've been to. The prices are right, the staff is super friendly and the facilities are new and clean. I would HIGHLY reccommend you try City Sun.

Nice salon but expensive- they might sell you the tropical or lotus bed which are reasonably priced but beware the tropical is really really weak. To get a good tan from this place you have to buy one of the higher priced beds and it is way more expensive than other salons....you can get a much better bed elsewhere.

I am in the beauty business and was looking for a tanning salon in the city to send my clients to. City Sun is close to my business so I thought it would be a great match for my clients. From the moment I walked in I felt great. The waiting area is soo beautiful. Complimentary bottled water, a staff that greated you warmly and who knew everything about indoor tanning. There beds are the most amazing that I have seen in the city. I used the sunboard bed and it was amazingly cool and comfortable. Satallite radio in each bed that you can actually listen to with great headphones WOW! I chose to listen to the ocean waves channel #1 put me right in a 15 min vacation. Not only did I walk out with an amazingly bronze glow but I felt like I just had a mini vacation away from new york city. I am now going to recommend City Sun Tanning to all of my clients. If you know suntanning take my advice and spend your money at City Sun. I will admit it is not your budget salon but hey in this world you always get what you pay for and what you pay for here is soooo worth it!!!

I love City Sun because it is so clean, has state-of-the-art equipment, and has great service! Now that I have been there, it is my favorite! There are no appointments, so if you go in the evening it may be busy, depending on which bed you prefer. There is a great waiting area with TV and magazines. Also, there are complimentary water bottles for before or after your tan. The beds are great (my favorite is the S-Class with aromatherapy, mist, and AC). All beds have satellite radio and there are cool, scented towels. Also they leave a peppermint patty as a treat with each session, which is a nice touch to make you feel welcome. I think it's a bit pricey ($19 for a basic tan, but up to $49 depending on the model you choose), but it has superior service and the tanning beds are VERY effective.

I love this place. I have never seen a salon that is so attractive, clean with such friendly staff. They are more than willing to take the time to discuss your tanning goals and explain about the beds to you. I felt at home and very welcomed by the place and the staff. Additionally the tanning experience is worth the money. The beds are nicer then the ones I've seen anywhere and I have tanned at a lot of different places with only average results. However City Sun exceeded my expectations, they provide cool towels for you and complimentary water bottles and have great deals and packages. Seriously you cant beat this place. Ill keep tanning here as long as I live in manhattan. You should too!

I just went to CitySun the other day after trying many tanning places around the city, and I can honestly say that it was the best experience tanning that I've had in NYC. The atmostphere was clean, warm, and inviting, and staff was friendly and helpful. I don't know what others are referring to when they say otherwise. After going to so many places that are lower quality salons just to save a little money, I am never going to any place else than CitySun even if I do have to spend a bit more here. Because I'm paying for the experience.

My sister and I went here for a trial run before her wedding in September. I take full responsibility for being late. Bad traffic. No parking. I should have planned better. We were 10 minutes late and told only one of us could go through with the appt. I don't want to be the cause of someone else being delayed, but I honestly thought the man working there (possibly the owner) reacted heartlessly to our situation. Needless to say, the bride tried the salon and I did not. She totally didnt like it, and noticed a lot of STREAKS later and didn't like the overall color. In summary, average place, but considering the wedding, our rush to arrive on time, and the potential for future business, he should have been nicer. It was a bad experience.

Last winter,before a trip away to some sunshine,I stopped by to check out CITY SUN--An occasional tanner the last thing I wanted was sales pressure,the only thing I wanted was a few sessions to get my skin beach-ready in a clean safe enviornment.CITY SUN proved to be all this and more,not only is the staff friendly,knowledgable and cool[low pressure],the music was great ,the beds modern and spotlessly clean,and I got the results I wanted.I plan to enjoy the experience again before beach season.CHECK IT OUT-you won't be disappointed!

I needed to get tan for my sisters wedding, so i went to this salon, and they were trying to charge me over $200 for tanning. I almost laughed in there face, and the lady behind the counter gave me an attitude, like i was the crazy one

I've tanned at multiple places in the city and I have found that hands down City Sun is by far the best. Not only are their beds the most advanced, but the cleanliness is far superior that of any competitor. The Staff is extremely helpful and friendly, and the decor and design is upscale and trendy. Makes you feel like you're in South Beach. If you're looking for the Florida color and not the orange fake tan, this is certainly the place.

I have been going to city sun tanning salon since the day they opened, and have been so happy with the results I am getting. I am also very pleased at how clean and sanitary and beautiful the space is, you can tell the minute you walk in that everything is very well maintained and taken care of. A few weeks ago I was in Chicago and trying to find a tanning salon for the time I would be there and really couldn't find anything that wasn't trashy and made me wonder if I should be using the beds, but once I got back to NY, I was thrilled to be back and able to go to City Sun. I highly recommend going there, everyone is so friendly and very helpful, I couldn't ask for more in a tanning salon.

A New York City winter can be rough sometime, but when I walk into my little oasis called City Sun it's summer year round. If youre looking for a wonderful experience, City Sun is for you. They offer a wide range of tanning beds, and the staff is knowledgeable and courteous. City Sun also offers a wide range of tanning products to protect the skin from drying out and believe me it enhances the experience. When I go for my tan I look forward to my free bottle of City Sun water, scented cool towels, and chocolates. Last but not least, I really enjoy the XM satellite radio that is offered in every tanning bed. I love to listen to the ocean waves and pretend to be on a tropical island. This little oasis I call City Sun, its just a little piece of summer year round.

city sun is IMMACULATE and spacious with the most state of the art equipment that i have ever seen. the staff is so helpful and the owner, himself, helped me out, gave me a tour, and let me choose what package i wanted. he didn't pressure me or try to upsell me at all - the fact that the staff applied NO PRESSURE was a huge seeling point. plus, city sun provides COMPLIMENTARTY WATER BOTTLES and SCENTED COLD TOWELS and CHOCOLATES. i can't say enough nice things about this place. for me, city sun is a awesome getaway and way to treat myself. even if you do not tan indoors, a gift certificate to this place would be an awesome gift to anyone who does or is considering it.

I was really nervous before going for my spray tan... I had never done one before and was worried that I would come out looking orange. City Sun is super clean, and they have a really great spray tan machine. I was given the choice of 3 different strengths, I chose the 2nd and I was really amazed at how even and natural the result was and the whole process only takes about 5 minutes. I even got a peppermint patty and bottle of water when I was finished. I highly recommend City Sun.

I've been to very high tech, high end tanning salons in New York City, Europe, and Japan. I have to say that I had THE best experience at City Sun. The machines are brand-new, very clean, and new models that I've never tanned in before. The staff are so nice and knowledgable. Fabulous!

City Sun is a luxurious oasis. Just steps from Union Square, it is perfectly situated for any busy New Yorker. The atmosphere created by the brilliant (the English usage) staff is completely inviting; one cannot help but relax and enjoy. All of the equipment is clean and state-of-the-art (including 2 types of sunless tanning and an open-air tanning bed). The sunless tan is especially wonderful; I am generally in-and-out in less than 3 minutes (to the amazement of the proprietors). Every amenity is there, down to essential oil spiked towels. I have tanned at many salons; you will not find one more enjoyable, effective, and efficient!! I cannot tell you how many compliments and how much attention I receive because of my City Sun treatments. City Sun is a most accessible and enjoyable indulgence.

I have been going to City Sun since the opening and have been very happy with my experience there. After tanning at several other salons over the years I have found that this has been the best, cleanest and most comfortable experience I've had by far. the beds are highly advanced and comfortable, the staff very friendly and helpful. The damp, scented towels are a real nice touch that add to the spa-like atmosphere there. I've almost always gotten in without a wait and if I've had to wait it's only been a few minutes. The owners have kept up with the needs of their clientel by bringing in more beds, etc. City Sun is definateley highly recommended.

After holding a membership with a Tanning Salon in California I was skeptical as to what I would find here in New York City. I am a pretty simple guy looking primarily for a little more color to my skin. In fact I dont belong there at all. I for one was surprised at how down to earth the staff is in relation to the business contemporary interior design and ultra clean upkeep. The equipment is always in great condition which is a nod to their facilities staff. Wait-time for a tanning session is minimal and they really answer all your questions without jumping the gun. I bought a buy 1 session get 1 free to test the place, and now my mind is settled on where to tan in New York that works with my budget.

Great experience tanning at City Sun. I never tanned so was a bit scared. The staff at City Sun is very knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable. The salon is very stylish and clean and I felt safe. It was recommended that I tan slowly at first to develop a base. I developed a natural and extremely even and beautiful tan. And, the tan lasts for so much longer than natural sun. It is quick (I go on my lunch time) and very relaxing. I was only planning to go a few times but have enjoyed it so much that I am a regular now. I have tried most of the machines. The stand up is my favorite because it gives a deep brown tan.

City sun is like a total spa experience all within 15 minutes.. perfect for a busy new yorker. the atmosphere is relaxing the staff is ABSOLUTLEY lovely and there's free water and fresh cold towels soaked with lemon. it feels expensive. all of the beds are clean and full power and the tans actually last unlike all the other places around.. and i've checked all of them. anyway it's worth every cent i look forward to visting there and they are currently offering grat packages. so check it out!! ps. im not being paid to say this haha! cheers!

The perfect blend of sunny, warm, laid-back California, and hip downtown New York City!

I had a wedding to go to, and went in for the sunless tan. Wow!, it's pretty darn amazing! PLUS, they do lots of little things (like a little treat for you in the room). They also offer complimentary water, and the best scented wet cooling towel! I was taken on a tour, and they explained all my tanning options, I found the staff to be super nice and not at all pushy. It seems to me, they have managed to combine a slick, state-of-the-art tanning salon, that is both warm and inviting.

And, just a block from Union Square, it's really convenient too, drop by after the movies and before you go to Whole Foods!
