I've had the pleasure of hanging out at Van Goghz since late summer. I go with family and friends and we ALWAYS have a blast!! Love the kaorake, even though my son fired me as a backup singer. \r

I recently hosted a surprise birthday party for my husband at Van Goghz in the party room. We both enjoy the food (especially steak night!) and atmosphere so he would never suspect a party by going there for a late lunch.

I have lived in the area for 2+ years and have always had a great experience at Van Goghz. Recently I got the pleasure of having Shelay be my waitress on a Wednesday night. She is one of the best servers that I have EVER had. Ever. Her naturally pleasant attitude will make any meal, drink or dessert enjoyable. I have tried most things on the menu and have been impressed with all of it. A wide drink menu and laid-back atmosphere add to the experience. This is not an establishment for high-maintenance people. The crowd is very diverse and open minded, it is enjoyable to see a wide range of people mingling in the city without any issues. Hats off to the owners and staff!!!!

Pros: Great drinks, great food and great service

Cons: Crowded on Wednesdays (but the steak is still worth it)

This place has the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my entire life. We sat at a table of about 8 people, with a waitress. Drinks took 20-25 minutes to be delivered. Half the time we were all sitting there with empty martini glasses. The food was mediocre at best. Basically frozen Sam's food tossed into a fryer. We gave our waitress a credit card at the beginning of the night. A couple of hours into the night, we were so fed up with the completely awful service that we decided to leave. So we cancel any drink orders were were STILL waiting on and asked for the checks. An hour later (literally), they bring us the checks, only our credit card is missing. They have lost our credit card. It was the only form of payment we had. After another 45 minutes of hashing this out with the bar manager, she tells us to go ahead and leave without paying, because of all that has happened. We are on our way out, and the police show up. Yes, the owner of the bar, going over the bar manger, has called the police. The owner has refused to come out and talk to us up to this point, and she then calls the police. I'm sorry but this is just not how you treat customers. And to clarify, none in our party was even drunk. We were there about 3 hours and only had 2-3 drinks each. We were so annoyed at the end of the night that any buzz we might have had was well worn off by this time. So it's not like they had 8 drunk customers bitching about a lost credit card. We were all sober. So basically, the end of it is that we have to go back to the bar and pay our tab. When something like this goes down, with awful service, and then a lost credit card, I'm sorry but the answer is to comp the bill. We had begun telling our friends how cool this place was, and now our plan is to tell absolutely everyone we know how awful the place is.

Pros: Martini's are tasty.

Cons: Awful customer service. Terrible second rate food.

.

We love this place. Ginger and the staff are always incredibly helpful. Our favorite is breakfast but the Martini's are a huge plus as well.

Van Goghz is the perfect neighborhood place where you can stop in, likely run into friends and grab a bite and a drink pretty inexpensively.

We've liked the place so much that we have even worked with Ginger for a few events. She has been an excellent and very flexible.

Pros: Great prices on Martini's and the Breakfast Rocks

Cons: Too far from my house

Ever since moving to the Tower Grove area last fall, I have found myself walking a few blocks more than once a week, sometimes for more than once a day to this great neighborhood spot. I was so happy to find Van Goghz around the corner as it has it all - great coffee, great food , great drinks and great staff. The atmosphere is very inviting, the staff are super friendly and the food - well it is amazing (large portion and inexpensive price). Whether you live in the neighborhood or just happen to be passing through, stop by Van Goghz- you wont be dissapointed!

This place was recommended by a friend. I am so glad it was....the food, drinks and especially the staff make it worth it every time my friend and I go. Even on a busy day, the staff are friendly and your food arrives piping hot to eat. The atmosphere is very warm and cozy. I highly recommend this place!!!!! 5 stars!!!!!!

Gone to this bar many times and have always got poor service! Owners friendly enough but employees rude and tend to ignore customers! And they never seem to have same cook. Even during slow times you get lousy service! Beware not a straight bar!

This is a gay bar, so if that's what your into you might enjoy it. The service is second rate and the drinks aren't all that reasonably priced.

This place is just pure and simple GREAT!!!

My wife and I moved here from Colorado Springs and coming from living in the suburbs to living in Tower Grove Park and having a great neighborhood hang out right around the corner like Van Goghz is awesome. I had the best Chicken Dumpling Soup ever this past week.
I told Ginger it was like Thanksgiving in a bowl!!! Keep up the great work!!

I've become a regular ever since I discovered this cute little cafe/bar not far from where I live. I love that I can come in during the day and enjoy good coffee while I work (aka surf the net) OR party with my friends at night all under one roof. Delicious food, tasty libations, smooth coffee, great hours, and a fun staff make Van Goghz my favorite hangout.

Van Goghz has great drinks and great food. The only problem is the service. You have to go to the bar to get your drinks. Getting a drink can take awhile if they are busy too And food can take over an hour if they are busy. No one clears your table until they need glasses, then they show up.

My advice, don't go there starving. I have gone many times since they opened and nothing has changed. They simply do not have the wait staff for the crowds that show up. It is unfortunatel because many people leave and don't come back after their experiences.

I go back because I like the place but I wish Ginger (owner/manager) would read these reviews and take note.

Pros: Great selection of martinis and beer

Cons: Bad service all the time

food was great, there was plenty of places to park, atmosphere was very nice, now if only they could live up to all that with a energetic friendly bartender the place would be great.

A really nice bistro/bar atmosphere with a very friendly and attentive staff. I highly recommend Van Goghz. I?m not someone who normally writes reviews on restaurants and bars but I have to make an exception for Van Goghz.. I recently moved to St. Louis and I am finding Citysearch very helpful for finding great places for food and drinks. I do not know where the reviewer who wrote ?Don?t go here?? was,
but it could not have been Van Goghz. I met friends there after work and we all loved this place. They have an extensive drink menu including a nice selection of wines by the glass and bottle. The staff was very helpful in narrowing your search for a great martini or a nice glass of red wine. They have an interesting selection of appetizers to choose from and the appetizers we ordered were fantastic. Most of us stayed on for a bite for dinner and everyone praised their selection. The food was served promptly with a nice presentation. I really loved their location. It is located in a very charming city neighborhood (Tower Grove East). The sidewalk seating on this beautiful evening just added to a great night. I could go on, but DO GO HERE!

Pros: Service, Selection, Atmosphere, Location

Cons: Can't think of any

.

The service is awful. Always understaffed, no waitresses to serve you. Even when there's only 15 people there you'll find yourself standing at the bar waiting for a beer or wine for 10 minutes. They even ask you for your glass back because they don't have anyone bussing the tables.

Service usually comes with a snarl.

If you find yourself here on a busy night.... good luck. You'll be waiting 20 minutes for a drink, an hour for food. I've given this place the benefit of the doubt a half dozen times now, but every time I've gone back its the same thing. I hate to give up on 'em cause its in my neighborhood, but enough is enough. I will not go back.

By the way, I've heard the same complaints from many people in the neighborhood as well who also refuse to go back.

We heard about this place by word of mouth. Our first experience, was so pleasant, we are recommending this place to others. The martinis were cold and made to our likely. This is a definate must if you are into martini's. No other martini bar on the S. Side can match these.
The bartender (Holly) and the owner treated each patron as if they were the most imporant person being served. The waiter (Jason) although he didn't wait on us since we sat at the bar, made a point to welcome us as we entered, and made sure we were comfortable.
Kudos to Van Goghz. What a refreshing discovery. We will be back!

Loved it! The atmosphere was great! The food good, yet reasonably priced and the staff VERY knowledgable. Not to mention the martinis! They were oh so fun and tasty too! I had the Rasberry Beret and enjoyed it. I liked the idea of the tapas and the party food platters... The portions weren't huge but sufficent... I am already planning to take a different group of friends there. Its an all around good time.

I have hosted two events at Van Goghz so far and everything was perfect. The staff is friendly, helpful and can pour a GREAT drink. Happy hour specials are good too. I recommend the blue agave margaritas-they are slightly addictive. The food is so unique and delectable, I am very impressed. I had a chance to try something that will be on the new menu, Chicken Pot Stickers, and it is a must have. Not only is everything they serve amazing, but the atmosphere is one of a kind. The art work is switched out now and again with work from local artists.

I noticed someone else mentioned they came on a Sat. eve and it wasnt crowded, i would say that is because of the odors. The place looks great, but you leave smelling like something between frozen seafood and an ashtray.

I went with a group of friends on a Saturday night. The bar wasn't too crowded and our waitress was hilarious and very attentive. The appetizers were great, and so were the martinis. I think we drank our way through the list. Highly recommend the pineapple martini. We sat on the couches near the window and didn't move all night. The place is very clean and comfortable, and not smoky.
