I would like to say if you have to brag up your kids on a paper you write. I hope you feel good about yourself. BUT remember there are kids & parents of kids that you are also writing about that may be NOT share your opinion!! THINK before you write Les!!

I think the Gazette is wonderful. I can't say I read it all the time. But on occasion I pick it up and it makes me remember some of the newspapers from back when I was a kid (I'm now 61). There was one that had a contributor named "Florance" can't remember her last name, but her articles were never properly punctuated and the grammar was never great, but her articles were fabulous. She would talk about her cats, what was happening around town (Bellefonte), who went visiting and when they came back and just about anything that tickled her fancy.
I do agree that those who deliver the paper should not be walking all over anyone's property and that should be addressed.
But please see this paper for what it is - a great piece of conversation. And one that kids today will probably look at when they're older and remember some of the articles that relate to their childhood and have a great laugh or an emotional cry.
PS: I know my grammar and punctuation is probably not correct - but you know I realy don't care. keep up the good work

I've picked up this paper with my morning coffee on occasion, and every time am startled anew at the lack of intelligence it takes to publish such a phenomenally bad paper. Not only is it filled with closed-minded, opinionated, editorialized "news" straight from the twittering head of Vana Dainty, the spelling and grammar are atrocious. For instance, today they referred to Senator Arlen Specter as "Arlene" no less than three times on the front page. A simple re-reading of the articles would correct many of the most blatant problems but the author/editor doesn't seem to care. Perhaps her time would be better spent attending classes on the English language. YOUR time would be better spent reading any other newspaper

I think that the Bellefonte Gazette is much better than the so-called professionals at the CDT.

At least, The Bellefonte Gazette covers news that is happening in the county seat of Centre County - BELLEFONTE.

I wonder what the editor of the CDT thinks when he totally ignores the news that is happening in Bellefonte.

The givens for the CDT is this: cover the county commissioners and some sporting events.

Vana Dainty is the Editor. Not the owner. That is Arnie and Susan Stott. The same people that publishes The Auto Connection.

So, before everyone else thinks that the paper is garbage; think about this... the paper is FREE. Advertisers realize that this is a economical way of promoting their business to Bellefonte and the Penns Valley area of Centre County.

Also, if you feel that their are numerous mistakes in the paper; give Vana a phone call and ask to HELP make it a better paper.

I lived in Bellefonte a couple of years back and own two investment properties there. I now live in LA CA and miss Bellefonte.

Reading the Bellefonte Gazette is one of the fond memories I have of living in Bellefonte.

It's hard to believe that innocent trees have been sacrificed so that this rag (and that's being generous) can get printed and distributed. The "editor" is also a member of the Bellefonte Borough Council. HOW can the owner of a "news" paper possibly sit on a governmental board and report on its proceedings?!?!?!? It's beyond conflict of interest. It's outright wrong, inappropriate, and improper. It would be one thing if this piece-of-crap paper limited its stories to birthday parties and the miscellaneous goings-on of its producer, but when it reports on the council proceedings, it totally crosses the line, both ethically and morally. Don't waste your time looking at this thing, I can assure you that your life is far too short to waste even a precious second on it.

I was wondering when these expert critics were planning on starting a local news paper? Although The Bellefonte Gazette does not cover major world issues I believe it was created for our community to have the opportunity to share those special moments like your child's marching band, a kindergarten class teddy bear tea party, someones 90th birthday all those times that make Bellefonte the kind of community that makes me proud to say I live in Bellefonte. It's not about Harvard writing, award winning photos, or even editing for the New York Times it's a small town paper for a home town community. And Vana does her best to fill in when the community doesn't step up and share pix and stories with the Gazette. So have a little fun and maybe put a smile on the face of someone you care about and take pictures at your child's class play and write something up and send it in. After all what do you have to loose? We all have the right to an opinion but until you step up to the plate maybe it would be best to listen to Mother and remember "If you don't have anything nice to say maybe you shouldn't say anything at all." And when you do feel the need to share your opinion buck up and give your name, Anonymous? Just in case you didn't get the name it's The Bellefonte Gazette so yes it does cover the Bellefonte areas not State College or it would be the State College Gazette.

Luckily, I live too out-of-the-way to receive this "publication" at my door each week. However, my husband and I and our friends are guilty of picking it up at the Weis each week, but it's just so we can laugh until we cry at the ridiculous topics and musings of Ms. Vana Dainty (whose name just so happens to contain the letters to spell "vanity"). It reads like a crappy diary. One good friend and I thought it might be fun to pick up a copy each week and take a red pen to all of the editing mistakes--like run-ons and fragments--and send it to the editor. That's probably too mean though.

My experience with this newspaper is highly unpleasant. I continue to receive papers after I have asked (now 11 times) NOT to have it delivered. They continue to deliver and I expect this is so the Bellefonte Gazette can claim artificially high subscription levels. I take 4 mile walks on a regular basis and continue to see this paper in its signature blue and orange plastic slip bags accumulating on vacant properties or properties where I know my neighbors are on vacation, travelling etcetera. After a good rain or two (or three) this paper/plastic mess is hideously ugly. Yesterday, I saw four bags stuck on the rungs of a storm drain and this, sad to say is also a regular sight. These unsightly little plastic bags are EVERYWHERE; so why isn't the company cited for contributing to polluting the Chesapeake Bay Watershed? Finally, I have had workers from this rag literally walk into my house at 6:30-7:00 am, yell up the stairs for God Knows Who because they had a case of 'mistaken residence'. Now I lock my doors. I also watched as these same twits walked all over my front ornamental garden to cut between houses and by the way, one idiot actually walked INTO one of my blueberry bushes. Once, I watched as a delivery person stomped over one of my terraced garden beds directly in front of my husband who was replanting a bush. The editor is a member of the Bellefonte Borough Council and the YMCA board (talk about conflict of interest); I don't expect any changes to the situation. I have complained directly to the editor and to the publishing group. I remain incredibly unimpressed. Next step: Taking pictures and contacting DER.

There is zero op-ed space in this paper, resulting is the egocentric viewpoint of the editor being the only opinion expressed.
The paper survives as a 'vanity rag' never commenting on anything controversial or important in the community... unless you consider releasing trout into the local stream once a year important, or the doing's of the editor's dog Chaz.

The only real news that is printed concerns the local school board and the minutes of the town council meetings.

If you don't live in Bellefonte or don't give a whit about the larger world, don't waste your time
