La Vecchia Napoli

The ambiance and cuisine of another place and time, that is what you get when you dine at this charming corner get away. I'd recommend it to anyone who not only enjoys, but also appreciates the taste of real authentic Italian cuisine. I was warned that parking might be a problem, but the valet service was available. This is a cute little restaurant in a cute little town.

Don't like hurting a business but this has to be said. Cute corner resturant nice ambiance. Small appy portions, very hard to chose nothing very appealing. Roasted artichokes, OK, Calamari with peas OK, Roasted eggplant with buffallo Morzarella OK, exotic mushrooms with broccoli rabe OK. The main courses were less than OK.Filet of sole with a heavy brownish mushroom sauce (who put a light delicate fish in a sauce like this?) Veal Saltimboca tough very salty and procutto dried not appealing. Lobster over linguini no flavor, lobster was tough, mussels tough baby clams good.Penne with Vodka sauce OK very salty. My husbands dish was ok it was a special sea scallop and lagustini over pasta OK - good. Overall the service was terrible the waitress never smile until she handed us the check, the prices were resonable. We still left feeling we were taken. Don't bother!!!

La Vecchia Napoli is "hidden" at the corner of River Road and Hilliard in Edgewater NJ.

The restaurant has a very family dining feel to it, you walk in and it seems like you've walked into someone's home. The entrace hall is small and has a coat rack on one side and you are seated in what looks like a large dining room but with many tables in it. Not only is the decor quant but the food is fantastic. I've been there a few times now and enjoyed all of it. I would highly recommend their penne a la vodka .. it's amazing.

The food can be a little pricey, i think the penne is about $11-13. I also recommend calling and making a reservation because it's unpredictable when others will also be jonesing for La Vecchia Napoli and it'd be disappointing to leave because it's too busy or too long of wait.

Keep in mind, there really isn't parking at this place unless you look around on the nearby side streets, but they do offer valet parking and are very prompt with the car.
