I have been using Mark for almost 5 years during what turned out to be a somewhat complicated and protraced divorce process. (Not his doing. He diligently worked to keep it as short and as painless as possible.) He actually came recommended to me by 2 people -- not because he represented them but in both cases the individuals had to fight against him. He has always been prepared for the many hearings pre-, mid- and post- divorce. I am very surprised to read negative reviews. I understand family law can be an intense and emotional area but the negative reviews just don't compute with me. By the way, the one time I went against his advice on a particular financial matter I lived to regret it. His rate is well worth it, considering the quality. Excellent attorney.

I've been using Mark as my personal and business attorney for almost thirty years. His rates are fair, he is highly competent, and I completely trust him. He might not like me saying this, but he has been known to do pro bono work for non-profits and some indigent individuals. The one star reviews I have read seemed to be from divorce cases where emotions run high. I haven't used him for a divorce, but I would be surprised if he isn't the best. I moved to New York City ten years ago and he is still my personal attorney and the executor of my estate.

I recently used the services of attorney Mark F. Borns and Borns Law Office in Madison. I recommend this law firm without any hesitation to any one looking for an experienced, knowledgeable, and reasonable lawyer. I had previously used his professional assistance twice in the past. So when I needed more legal advice and service I did not hesitate to return to Borns. As in previous occasions, he delivered top-notch professional, quick, dependable, and timely advice and service.

Run away! Don't even think about using this law firm! I have had many lawyers over the last few years but none as bad as this firm. I cannot imagine they have any positive reviews, and I would expect any positive reviews to be fake. I paid $1700.00 retainer, I spoke with Mark once, he agreed to handle my case, said it should be no problem, that the court was not able to do what it did to me, and he would straighten it out. That was the last communication I had with Mark, no emails nothing, until he sent me a copy of the motion he sent to the Judge to withdraw from my case, then this firm blocked me from emailing them. Of course he did not offer too refund my retainer. I don't know how people like this can look at themselves in the mirror. Do yourself a favor and pick any other attorney! If I don't get my retainer back soon, I will have the Office of Lawyer Regulations look into my case. In fact you would be 100 times better off representing yourself, because at least you will care about your case. I think you all get the point by now. Don't take a chance, if they stole my money they could steal yours! Take Care, and good luck with your search.

The most responsive, available, and timely law office I have ever dealt with. They were clear with an explanation of the proccess of my case and were extremely thourogh indicating exactly what I needed to provide for a successful outcome. They were always available even at night and on weekends! During our face to face meetings I felt like they truley cared about what I was experiencing. I wish I would have been aware of them in 2005, they would have saved me a lot of grief. I whole heartedly recommend them. Thanks Mark and Jane!

I have used Mark's legal services for my dissolution as well as business matters. He is first class in his range of knowledge of the law, working well with his clients, and helping bringing parties together to solve complex matters in a fair, ethical, and cost effective manner. His paralegal is first class in assisting him with the prep of documents, filings, billing, and questions of various types.

Mark and his staff are very easy to work with and they always take the "high road" which has not on only evidenced by me but also my friends who have utilized his services. Further evidence of his quality and ethical work is the various regional legal awards he has received for "pay" legal work, as well as pro-bono work to help people keep their homes in tough economic times. One just need Google Mark Borns to see the award he received by the Madison, Wisconsin legal community in 2010 at an annual ceremony for his unique pro-bono approach to help people who are at risk of losing their homes.

Mark is an attorney who listens, takes careful action, keeps his clients abreast of all processes and engages key talented financial and tax experts when needed to help find the best solution for his client. I have been extremely impressed by his character, ethics, knowledge of the law, easy demeanor to work with, and very fair costs to handle any matter. His billings were always accurate and fair and he even advised to use him as needed and required, but to be cautious not to do so in a manner that would hurt my wallet.... Meaning when I was upset in my dissolution I learned to chat with friends or physically work out more rather than calling Mark too much to vent my same concerns to him too many times which just cost me money and added nothing to what needed to be done. Mark was always there to help me he just helped me learn how to contain my legal cost. A heck of an attorney to provide support but being careful to watch the financial aspects involved.

I HIGHLY recomment Mark Borns. If he cannot serve your legal needs he sure will direct you to someone who can help you with your unique needs!!

I would recommend Mark Borns to anybody who asked. They have always been affordable and attentive. I felt comfortable the moment I walked in.

I was originaly introduced to Atty Borns Office a few years ago when my ex tried to flee the state with our 2 children. I found the knowledge they shared, and determination in my case to help me not only win full placement of my children but the compassion that they showed me carried me through a very difficult time in my life.

More recently I found myself at risk of losing my home to foreclosure. I knew exactly where I needed to go. Atty Borns was quick to take action with the court, as well as recommendations for financial counseling and mediation with my mortgage company. He was a rock through the whole thing, alway quick to answer my emails or phone calls. At this point it looks like I successfuly am staying in my home. Borns Law Office has saved my life once again.

I hired Attorney Borns to handle a legal matter for me and I found him to be extremely helpful. I found him easy to get a hold of--if he was in court, I would contact him through e-mail and always got a full response back in a timely manner. His paralegal, Jenny, was also nice and someone I could contact if I needed assistance. The matter that I retained him on was extremely emotional and stressful for me. Attorney Borns and Jenny were really a comfort to me in getting me through it. They made me feel safe and protected. The process was confusing as well, and Attorney Borns was diligent in making sure I understood what was happening. I believe any time you have to hire a lawyer it is not cheap. However, I found his services (billings) reasonable and straight forward.

Very disappointed? I originally went with Mark based on what I had read about. However, throughout the divorce I found that e-mails became excessive due to his responses being vague. I had to ask for specifics and descriptions. Each e-mail is costly and they add up fast. I had to ask repeatedly for documentation...ie: DeNovo hearing records. I requested a copy at least four to five times over several months...

In support of him doing a better job for his next divorce client, I offered him the following feedback? Though not all inclusive, as it applies, be sure to properly address a spouse??s financial disclosure statement. ie: if she works at a hair salon, get pay stubs? There should be no surprises to the client at a final hearing...If there is a DeNovo hearing, get the transcripts to the client on their first request. If there is mediation, stay on top of things to ensure timeliness of the process in your client??s favor?Be sure to provide detailed explanations to your client on the procedures and expectations of proceedings. This will help to avoid multiple e-mails and related over billing. In the best interest of your client, ensure specific language is in writing ?Be sure to address any QDRO in favor of your client prior to a divorce being finalized. Be sure to provide your client with a final MSA and related paperwork signed by all parties so the client does not have to get a copy for themselves elsewhere. Be sure to provide your client with a copy of all documents for their records. Most important?be sure to spell the name of your client correctly. Folks may overlook a time where their attorney or the client themselves would provide a misspelling. But to do so on numerous occasions is unacceptable. I lost count through the e-mails and received envelopes where my name was misspelled. That is just sloppy work and sends a message to the client that you don't care.

The point is I do not feel that Mark really fought for me, but rather seemed to agree to whatever my ex-wife's attorney wanted. I found his posture too laid back. I was hoping for him to be more aggressive and fight to win. As a result, I contacted my wife at the time, and we came to an agreement in effort to stop the ridiculous legal fees. I have withdrawn his services. Thank GOD..... I would suggest to anyone seeking divorce, research and understand processes and costs in detail. Really take the time to read all reviews before selecting an attorney. Based on my experience with Mark, and speaking with others who have been through a divorce with different representation, Mark did not represent me well. If you want vague billing, silly e-mails, always needing to follow up with him, huge stress, poor communication and what seems to be an endless bill for his legal fees...then Mark is the attorney for you. I firmly believe that the divorce dragged on longer than it needed to.

By the way, he recently sent me two e-mails objecting to my on-line posting at avvo. Go figure?a super fast response from him after reading negative feedback. He could have provided me with one e-mail and stated what he needed to. Sending me two merely reinforces the obvious and further supports my position.

So, do I bill him for reading two of his e-mails or just one? Lol?

I have recommended Mr. Borns to one on my friends and would not hesitate to do so again. I got his name from a friend of mine who had been very pleased with the work he had done for her. Divorcing my wife was not easy, but with Mark's guidance and experience, I have the house, and full custody of my boys. I also felt as I dealt with other legal people involved in my case that they had the utmost respect for Mark as a fair person and good lawyer. His office has always returned my calls and answered questions I had promptly. You can't ask for much more than that.

Mark Borns helped me gain significant placement of my son, after my ex-wife did everything she could do to cut him out of my life. Mark's counsel was invaluable to me. He also managed to obtain a fair property division settlement in the divorce court in Madison, Wisconsin.

Mark Borns of Borns Law is a truly gifted attorney and a rare Madison treasure. His unusual combination of raw intelligence, legal savvy, and decades of experience make him a formidable representative on behalf of his clients. Not only is he a great divorce lawyer, Borns is outstanding when it comes to personal injury and bankruptcy cases as well. I know several people who have been clients of Mark Borns and they are huge fans, as am I. I also recommend Mark Borns for complex real estate transactions. Specifically, he advised me on several extremely convoluted options to purchase. No amount of complexity escapes Mark Borns - his razor sharp intellect is truly impressive. Not only that but Borns has a huge heart. I know of several cases that he took on pro bono as his way of giving back to his community. Brains, expertise, and compassion - Borns has it all!

Mark helped me get through the most difficult time in my life. He not only handled my very complicated divorce, he also helped me get guardianship over my oldest son who had been in a very serious traffic accident. Mark stuck by me and supported me when my whole world fell apart. I would highly recommend Mark, he is a dedicated professional that truly cares about his clients. Mark's staff are also extremely helpful and caring people, I couldn't have gotten through it without them.

Mark did a great job with my divorce. It was long and way too complicated by outside factors that he kept control of and helped streamline. More importantly after the divorce was over there were frivolous charges thrown in that Mark helped solve even though the case was over.He was always accessible and easy to talk to. His staff is also excellent in helping put together the financials and other paperwork that often feels overwhelming for most of us.

Mark Borns took the time to explain to me the law and the various possible outcomes. He maintained a good perspective and exercised good professional judgment during a time I was not at my best. The outcome was very good and within the range of what he predicted. His fees were reasonable. He was very kind to me during a very hard time of my life.Falk is no longer with the firm.Highly recommend.
