Plough & the Stars  4 Star Rating - Very good

A great atmosphere- Irish inspired with and American feel. Not only do they offer drinks at reasonable prices they have good food, dancing, and a fantastic ecclectic collection of music played by the DJ. It's hard not to find anyone singing or dancing along to the music and not having fun. I recommend a night out with friends in Philly go here!

A little bit of Ireland.  5 Star Rating - World class

This old world style restaurant/pub is dripping with charm and atmosphere. You will think you are on the 'old sod' here, with authentic Irish music around an open hearth. But the food is also wonderful with Irish inspired gourmet dishes and fresh ingredients. Great beer selection, too.

Love the Special Cocktails! 4 Star Rating - Very good

My friends and I stumbled upon this place in October, and loved the way it looked inside, so we grabbed a little table by the fireplace to have a few drinks. They had a nice special cocktails list for the season and each of us got a different drink - all were fantastic. We went again a few weeks ago and they had an updated St. Patrick's Day style drink list, and all the ones we tried were great!
Although we haven't tried the food there, we love the way that we can go in and relax by the fireplace with a few drinks. Both times were during the week (a Wednesday and a Thursday night) so I'm guessing the same might not be true for a Saturday. Drinks were a little pricey, but this IS Philadelphia. Definitely hope to try the food soon!

Pros: fireplace, ambience is great, cocktails
Cons: pricey, semi-hard to find

Good food, but hated the 3 Star Rating - Satisfactory

We had visited The Plough for a private birthday party, after we walked around the block, we finally stumbled upon it. There was a cocktail hour until the guest of honor arrived and the drinks were very expensive. Dinner was ordered from the prefix menu and was served around 10:00 pm. The food was presented very well and it was very appetizing worth the $$. I didn't get the whole Irish pub feel, especially when a d.j arrived and the thumping of the music filled the bar. At this point noone at the birthyday party could converse because noone could hear one another. When 11:00 rolled around, it was standing room only and patrons were dancing where they were standing. It was very difficult to get from one side of the bar to the other and felt as if I was being stampeded. It seems as if the allowable capacity by the fire marshall had been maxed out. This would not have my establishment on choice to hold an adult intimate birthday party. I would not recommend visiting The Plough in the Stars during the late hour if you are not into the "club" scene.

Pros: parking, good service, good food
Cons: drinks are pricey, club feel, no dance floor, anbience

A good restaurant - not a pub 4 Star Rating - Very good

I had dinner here with friends. It was great and we loved our meal. It was more expensive than Pub food and there was not too much of a pub feel to it. Instead, it is a nice place for adults, who want to have a good dinner, enjoy some nice cocktails, and have a good evening without the drunken frat boys or the boisterous behaviors that can happen at other locations, especially pubs.

Pros: Good food and drinks
Cons: A little expensive, but good for a special night out.

Great Sunday brunch experience 5 Star Rating - World class

Found this place randomly while exploring the neighborhood with my girlfriend on a Sunday morning, so went in with minimum expectations. Boy were we in for a treat! Initially was going to order their shepard's pie but opted for their omelette after being told that it might take longer then average to prepare because they just started making their mashed potatoes. That remark caught me by surprise and made me think we werent at some typical diner type joint after all. We did wait for our dishes longer then expected, but their omelette & home fries did not disappoint at all, and was worth the extra wait compared to places where you're ordering meals that's already premade and simply being heated up. My girlfriend enjoyed her chicken potato hash and was pleasantly surprised with their spicy sauce.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice to boot and we ate upstairs overlooking the balcony.

Overall, was a gem of a find, and I'd say definitely worth coming back again for a different meal to further explore this pleasant discovery.

Pros: Very well prepared dishes, pretty ambience
Cons: Wait was longer then expected, but in the end, it added to the enjoyment of food

The Plough and Stars do not honor the web advertizement 1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

The Plough and the Stars offer a Prix Fix Menu on their web site but it is not honored at the restuarant. My part went there to have dinner and wanted the Prix Fix Menu. One for $43 dollars and the other two for $33 dollar menu. We were told once seated that this is ONLY offered for large parties or on SPECIAL occasions. This is not stated on the web page(check it out) My thinking is that they were slow so they were not going to honor the Prix Fix Menu...why have an it advertized on the web page if it is not offered. We left and had a marvalous meal at the Mexican Post between Front and 2nd on Chestnut street.

Pros: do not honor the web advertizement
Cons: did not remain after the staff refused to honor the web advertizement for their Prix Fix Menu
