There were so many things wrong with my experience here, I don't even know where to start. My friend made a reservation for brunch on Sunday at 1. She was told that we would have a choice of pre fixe or a la carte. She ended up being sick, and when the rest of us arrived we were told that we had to order the pre fixe brunch, and that they don't take reservations for anything else. When we explained that our friend was told something different, we were given attitude and told we could pay a $5 cancellation fee per person and then then order a la carte.

Our waitress was nice enough, but the service was ridiculously slow. They were out of honey and half the teas on the menu. They offered us sugar in the raw instead, and then had the nerve to charge us 50 cents a packet!

The scone was decent, but was served with whipped cream (huh?) and 2 of my friends couldn't get theirs at the same time as the rest of us, because they were late, and couldn't have a scone before they had their tea. Give me a break! By the time the owner delivered our "4 sandwich selections" (there were only 3), we were thoroughly annoyed. You don't get to choose your sandwiches with pre fixe. I couldn't even eat 2 of them, and when I mentioned this she just looked away and then left the table.

We finally asked for the "dessert sampler" to go. Apparently to them, that means one tiny piece of sponge cake cut in 3. We complained and were told they were out of other desserts, even though I just saw someone get a big slice of carrot cake.

Needless to say, none of us will ever be going back. It's too bad, because this cute little place has a lot of potential that's being wasted by a nasty owner serving airplane food and suffering from a bad attitude. It's ok to be out of one or two things, but don't blame your customers, and don't charge them full price for half of the food and service. Be happy they're even there, and let them order whatever they want!

Pros: cute atmosphere, good tea, plastic doilies

Cons: slow service, nasty owner, pre fixe a rip off, mediocre food

A friend of mine introduced me to this place and I love it. A beautiful tea room in East Harlem. The ambience is quiet and soothing and the decor is full of rich colors. The food and drinks are reasonably priced, and I highly recommend the quiche lorraine.

PROS: ambience, food, prices
