My first experience at Gauchos, in Valparaiso, IN, was astonishing. I came in for my birthday meal for the month of August. I have never been to Gaucho's before, but was recommended by many people to visit the restaurant. We were greeted at the door with a friendly smile and a staff member who graciously showed us to our seats. Once the server came to our table, she explained exactly how the gaucho service would be presented to us. With our menus we were presented with an abundant list of drinks. One thing that I really liked was that they had a wide variety of martini's that will fulfill anyone's taste buds. After we finished our cocktails, the server presented the salad bar to us, which was great. There was a wide variety of vegetables, salad ingredients and pastas on the gourmet salad bar. Once we were ready for our feasts we were bought side dishes of mashed potatoes and bananas. These side dishes really complimented our meals wonderfully. Both my husband and I received the Surf in' Turf meal which included everything on the menu. Each mouth watering meat was prepared perfect and each bite was extremely enjoyable. We were greeted toward the end of the meal by the owner, Sam, who was very polite and gracious. He wanted to make sure our meals were ok and that our time here was enjoyable. As a customer it felt good knowing that the owner took time out of his busy schedule to make sure we, and other guests, were receiving the best possible service.

One thing I do want to mention that really impressed me was the service. The server never once rushed us or made us feel as if we were an inconvenience. She let us take our time enjoying our drinks, the salad bar, and the wonder assortment of food brought to our table.

My husband and I will definitely be returning to the restaurant. I will also be telling all my friends and family.

I wish I had visited this place before Monday, May 23, 2011, but I was totally surprised by the service & the food. I certainly will be back. It is the best kept secret in N.W. Indiana.

I went to Gaucho's tonight for my birthday, I had booked reservations 3 weeks ago. I have been so excited i couldn't wait to try a new place. I was SO DISSAPOINTED in the food. I picked the meat feast because i am a big meat lover. This is the worst meat I have ever eaten or I should say have not eaten. I disliked everything I tried. I left hungry as well as my husband. The meats were mostly under cooked and no flavor. We waited forever to be served and I was getting aggitated. Some of the steak items tasted like liver eeww. I notified the waiter i was not satisfied and his response was thats Brazilian food. On my way out I got to spin a wheel for my birthday, it landed on 5.00 off your next dinner. I told the waiter I won't be needing that, he said, you can give it to a friend....no thanks.....beware this place is a waste of money. Not only is the food awful the portion sizes are samples.

Went there for my Birthday with family in April- waited this long to get over the disappointment and a clear head. We were set in the rear of the dinning room where it was extremely dark and hot. they actually had to bring a fan out. I would never recommend going with a party of people they just can not handle it. After an hour of them bring out food with just one bite ( and I do mean a 50C piece size of meat) and never showing back out till 15 mins or more later we actually had to ask if they were ever going to feed us! then and our and half after we have been waiting to be fed they started to bring out food. Mostly Chicken for us with only seafood we were pretty well screwed. very fish smelling
The crab was awful not even orange looking very soggie and bad tasting -- WE ALL LEFT HUNGRY and since there was 24 of us and the bill was over $840 I was VERY UPSET!!!
24 people will never be back - Don't waste your money so many other places to go

I am so surprised by all the awful reviews I have seen online. I came to write a review about SAMANTHA, the young lady I saw a poor review written about two ones below. She was an outstanding server. She was incredibly smart, very sweet, and lovely to talk to. She sold me the surf and turf and it was incredibly delicious!!!! I loved eating the meats along with the seafood!!! We also got the chocolate covered strawberry martini as well as a tuxedo cake! It was delcious! Our gauchos were always coming to the table with different meats. I will definitely be back again soon and be asking for SAMANTHA. She was FANTASTIC. :)

I've been to Gaucho's before and I must say, it just keeps getting better every time I go back. I first went with my mom, because she loves seafood and they offer ALL YOU CAN EAT crab legs. We were seated in the lounge area (excellent atmosphere) and ended up staying for 3 hours because we were having such a great time. I went back again this week and took my sister and my daughter and yet again it was a fantastic experience. Not only was the food amazing, but one of the servers came up and started doing magic tricks. My daughter was beyond excited about this and has been asking to have dinner there every night since. They are such an incredibly family oriented establishment. Its a nice change of pace from McDonald's playland (which is the only other place she asks to go). They certainly have made a lifetime customer out of me!

Sadly I am forced to give this awful place one star. The food was horrible and service even worse. The place had an awful smell and looked as if it hadn't been cleaned for weeks! I've had the pleasure of eating at several "real" Brazilian Steakhouses and Gaucho's is nowhere close in quality, cleanliness or service. Save your money this place doesn't deserve your business.

We had read just about all the reviews prior to visiting Gaucho's, and honestly we were expecting nothing out of this restaurant. We are planning a wedding and went there inquire about a reception. From the moment we walked into the door, we were greeted with a friendly smiling face. Sam, the owner took charge and welcomed us into his restaurant with a genuine interest in our vision for the wedding dinner. We had a one-on-one conversation about our families, the theme of the wedding and our expectations. We were then served an AMAZING dinner, that can not be described- you can only see for yourself! The staff treated us as royalty and described every part of the process. After dinner, we were completely sold! We went into the beautiful-intimate banquet room and went over the menu in depth. Sam was so generous with the menu, the room, the details and the PRICE! I know this is a long review- but we are so extremely pleased with the service we received today! We are now at ease knowing our reception is in good hands! I did not agree with 1 negative review. SERVICE-EXCEPTIONAL, FOOD-BEYOND OUTSTANDING!, SALAD BAR- NOTHING LIKE DESCRIBED!( For the record I did ask Sam about the negative reviews regarding the salad bar-(because it was very impressive!) he reassured us that the reviews were all taken into consideration and it has been completely redone.) We look forward to our ceremony and dinner, and hope this review helps a leery customer. Well worth the trip or even a second shot!

Overpriced for low quality, the seafood was good, but the beef was not not anything to write home about. The salad bar looks better at any fast food place - they might have a chef but I doubt it- worse meal for the many that I have had in years! AVOID!

I have NEVER written a negative review of a restraunt before, but our experience last night was awful. We decided to stop there on our way home to LaPorte from Chicago because we had heard a couple of people say it was a good place to go. When we got there, it was about 6PM and there were a couple of parties waiting for tables ahead of us. They said we'd have to wait about 35 minutes or so. We were OK with that, and I suggested to my husband we wait for our table in the bar. They said they would come get us when our table was ready. On our way to the bar we walked past the dinning room and noticed they had white tablecloths on all the tables, we could hear soft music, and we could see the big salad bar. We also noticed there were a number (at least 5 or 6) tables that were empty, so I thought it probably wouldn't be as long of a wait as they thought. We were really looking foreward to a good dining experience. When we got into the bar, there were about 8-10 tables with white tablecloths in there too, and about 3 were occupied. My husband no sooner got his coctail when the Host came and said our table was ready. We thought "Oh Boy!" and we picked up our drinks and followed him. About 10 feet. To one of the tables in the bar! I said "NO! I don't want to eat in here! I've recently quit smoking and it stinks to me in here". So, we went back up to the bar to wait for a table in the diningroom. About 4 or 5 minutes later, the Host was back, and again said our table was ready, so we got up and followed him into the dining room. He took us to a table that was so small if I had opened my menue it would have hung over the edges! And, the table was jammed up against the wall, so you'd have no room at all. I looked at my husband who is well over 200 lbs., and said "this isn't going to work. He won't be comfortable here". So, he looked around the room and spotted a table way back in a dark corner. He sat us there and I was looking at a wall in front of me, a wall to my right, because again, the table was jammed right up against the wall, and the backs of the heads of the party to our left. I couldn't believe it. It was really dark there. No pendant light hanging over the table, not even a candle. I couldn't read the menue it was so dark, which meant I wouldn't be able to see my food, or see if the environment was clean. We decided we were not going to spend $100 or more for treatment like that, so we got up and walked to the door. Our waitress (who we hadn't met yet) saw us and asked what's the matter? I just said "I've had enough, I'm done". She said"do you want to speak with the host?" I said NO! He was the one who tried to seat us at 3 totally unacceptable tables in the first place". She did not offer to send the manager, and we left. Today, I called and spoke to the manager on the phone and told him of our awful experience. I thought maybe he would offer a discount or something to entice us to come back. I got NOTHING! Not even an appology. All he did was defend, defend, and defend. He said this is the first time anyone has ever complained about the tables before. I told him I didn't believe him, and I can see by the reviews that I'm not the first one to complain. He said he would never seat 2 people at a table for 4 or 6, even if there were many empty tables. I told him I intend to tell all my friends about this. In this economy especially, people are not going to want to spend a lot of money for that kind of treatment. I have already told all my friends on Facebook about this. I just wish I had looked at the reviews before going, because I counted them. There are currently more negative reviews about this restaurant than good ones. At least I can be glad they only got $6.00 from us for my husband's drink.

We have been to Gauchos several times. The first time was to celebrate my new job and my husband's promotion. The last time was for my birthday. The next time is tomorrow :) We were a little taken aback at the wait the first time, but it was worth it! The wait staff was friendly, and even treated our son as if he had a mind of his own, which is a nice change. The meats are delicious, so is the seafood. We have been there a couple times on birthdays and never had a problem getting a free meal, they even let us combine our special offers to our max advantage the time we took my mom, my sister, her bf and his kids with us for a big family party! The dessert tray has wonderful choices, and there a couple offers that are so rich we split one because we cant possibly finish one individually. This is definitely worth going to!

Some friends and I recently visited this restaurant for dinner. It was my first experience there and it will be my last. The salad bar was a joke. I could have gotten a better salad at Old Country Buffet.- Even the service was below our expectations. Our server seemed annoyed at our request for things like refills- cocktail sauce, etc. I ended up with a lemon seed in my Pepsi which I didn't understand why, until later on in the evening we realized that she was mixing our drink glasses up with one another- obviously not caring what glass contained what and to whom. Needless to say this was totally unacceptable. Go elsewhere!

I went there on my birthday and it was amazing!!! I had a large group of people with me and the waiter was so friendly and nice! He would joke with us and he just seemed like the type of person that actually enjoyed their job, you don't find that just anywhere! They tried to gather all the employees to sing to me also, but they were soo packed they couldnt, but they rounded up three and brought out the DELICIOUS cake!! I was so full when i left there! I would definitely recommend this to everybody who is hungry!

Torn between wanting to reply to some of the negative previous posts and giving Gauchos a real review...

In any event, I have visited Gauchos on many occasions, both with my family and my significant other. I have yet to have a bad meal or bad service. For a unique dining experience, a Brazilian-style feast is wonderful choice. The food is great, and combined with the salad bar, the choice of foods will satisfy every diner's tastes. In addition, I have had zero problems with receiving my free birthday "feast of meats." I encourage anyone curious about this style of eating or this restaurant to give it a shot - you will not regret it!

My husband and I went for our anniversary a couple of days ago. This was our first experience at this restaurant, and it was excellent. I will be returning for my birthday in a couple months and my husband and I will be bringing our son for his birthday in June. I immediately started texting my friends as soon as we returned to the car, to let them know about this restaurant. They too want to experience what we did. The food was soooo good. I wish that I could have taken some home with us to enjoy for later!!! I highly recommend this restaurant to all who are reading the reviews. You will not be sorry. I guarantee!!! :)

Just had Easter Brunch, and we all left hungry. We had a large party and there wasn't enough meat to serve the entire table. Some of us had to wait quite some time before getting our meats and the portion sizes were so small, it was like a teaser with a long wait until they come back with more. For them to have a 35 item salad bar, they must be counting each salad dressing and salad toppings. Was not impressed. Tried it once, don't see us going back.

I hadn't been to Gaucho's in about two years and was a little worried after reading some mixed reviews but went anyway. I've now been three times and I did have one mediocre experience but tonight's dinner was great. I think the key to a good experience at Gaucho's is the day of the week. My mediocre experience was a slow weeknight. Tonight was a busy Friday (seafood buffet on the first Friday of Lent) and the place was packed. We were seated within 15 minutes and were very well attended to. Management stopped by to make sure everything was being taken care of. The food was very good. I've been to Brazilian steakhouses in Brazil and Chicago and I don't expect Gaucho's to compare to them because of the rural location but I was very pleased and would go again.

My wife and i, when out for dinner at Gauchos on her birthday, we were waiting for over an hour for service once we complained, we were seated by the manager, whom was very rude and unprofessional, when the food finally came out it was one very small portion, while waiting for my sea food the waiter offered me a portion of meat when i ate the portion on meat the waitress immideatily come to the table and said she had to charge my wife and i an additional $10.00 per meal because i had a portion of meat, i spoke with the manager Amanda whom stated i had to pay the additional money i tried to explain, but she just walked away. Never go too this place save your time and money

Never go to this place!! This place false advertises with their coupons and like the review before states they try and tell you that you'd have to pay the full price for the meals. Not to mention when we got our bill they "accidently" charged us $29.95/person when the Monday pricing is suppose to be $25.95/person. Trust me, I don't believe this was an accident at all. The meat was just okay and the salad bar was pitiful!! When we called in to make our reservations, we were told that we could have multiple coupons at the same table as we made it perfectly clear that there would be 2 coupons at the same table. The waiter proceeded to advise us that if we used the coupon that he would have to charge us $34.95/person instead of the special of $25.95. Our coupons were BOGO and even at $34.95/person that saves over $15 and if two are able to be used (as we were told) that would save our table $30+. The waiter then used the line "I'd have to ask my manager" and also advised us to just use the coupons on a non-special priced night. This place was such a disappointment and I must say you are better off spending your money as a nice restaurant like the Lighthouse in Cedar Lake or a real Brazilian steakhouse in Chicago!

Every weekend is Gaucho's. The Elite side is no waiting. A couple of $'s more but well worth it. The wait staff and owner's make you feel part of the family and want to return. Never leave hungry!!! Rating is tops!!!!

I just tried Gaucho's for the first time this past weekend! It was my best friend's 30th birthday and a bunch of us wanted to celebrate. We called early in the week to make a reservation for the 8 of us and the man who answered the phone was very polite and informative. None of us had ever been there before so we were very excited. We arrived right on time for our reservation and our table was waiting for us. We were seated right away and greeted by our server. He was very nice and professional. Since it was a special occasion, we wanted to try some of their signature martinis. They were AWESOME!! The chocolate covered strawberry martini was amazing! We started off with the salad bar which was really great. All of the items were fresh, which you don't always get with a salad bar. After salad, the "gauchos" began serving us all of the meats. Wow! I couldn't believe how many there were and how tasty they were! My favorite was the chicken parmesan. The servers and gauchos were so amazing. They were quick and attentive to us. Even though we were totally full at the end of the meal, we knew we had to get dessert. I highly recommend the "tuxedo" cake!! It was the best thing I have ever tasted and I am usually very picky about my dessert. Overall, I would say that our whole experience was awesome! I have been telling everyone about how great the food was. The only advice I would give to other customers is to come hungry!!

Thank you Gauchos!! We just cebrated my parents 40th wedding anniversary and we will all be back for all of our special occasions. My family and I were so impressed with the attentive service and food. I had no idea what a brazilian steakhouse was or how they served their food. I'm sad that I drove by Gauchos for four years everyday and didn't try it until now! My 5 year old is the pickiest eater in the world and even he ate a full meal. There is something for everyone even if you don't eat meat you will enjoy the huge salad bar. The meats were my favorite though. I really liked the filet wrapped in bacon and the chicken parmasian. I also loved the carmalized bananas. The most important thing was that my parents had a good time and that was for sure. We didn't even know they had a birthday promotion and they still gave my dad his meal free because it was his birthday also.
This place really exceeded my expectations. I would recomend this place to anyone who wants to have a fun night out with family or friends or even just for a date night. First class place.
$$- very affordable - great value

Just had dinner at the most wonderful place. I am so glad I listened to all my friends and coworkers who told me to go to Gauchos and not read reviews. I was not expecting much at all when I went to Gauchos because they were advertising "free birthday meal". I figured there was no way my wife was getting a free meal and it was going to be filling. Wow I was wrong!! I can't believe the meal that we ate. We started with a salad bar that never ended and it wasn't just salad it was everything there was even hot food on it. Then the meats started coming out. There were so many meats that I lost count. I have to admit that I thought this was a trick and that I would get a big bill for this big meal. The staff that was bringing out the meats were so attentive to our needs also. At one point one of the meat carvers noticed my wife needed a refill and brought it out for her. Crablegs were the best!!! We ordered those because we love crablegs and they were only $10 to ad on to our meal for all you can eat. We passed on dessert because the server told us it wasn't included and I was still concerned that we were not getting the free birthday meal. We asked for the bill and told the server that my wife had a birthday this month, she asked for the ID and took it and showed her manager. Two minutes later she came back with the bill and the moment had come for me to really see..... I opened the bill and sure enough my wife's entire meal was free!! Wow how can they do that. A free meal for her birthday and it was a great one too. My birthday is in March and I hope it is still going on then too. I will have to see that was a big meal. Great food!! Great service!!! and GREAT DEAL!! You must try this place even if its not your birthday because it's awesome!!!!!!!

I have tried Gauho's 3 times and on each time my experience become worse. First, we were told the wait was 40 minutes, but we waited for over an hour before they finally sat us in the "Elite" sitting area eventhough we were not eatting the "Elite" meal. Second, we were miss quoted 3 times on how much our bill would be for with the entertainment book coupon. The price of our dinner was first $29.95, then $34.95 and finally $45.95 after our credit card was rang up. Third, we were told the wine we chose to buy a bottle of was 25% off that night, but on our bill and after complaining to the manager it was not. Fourth, our food was had no flavor. I have eatting at many restaurants in the area and would gladly choose another restaurant when I want to get a good steakhouse meal. I think they convience people to come in with all the "Specials" they are having. If you haven't noticed, they always are having specials and nothing if ever full price. They use a nice reverse pyschology technique on consumers.

We thought we would try Gaucho's as my husband wasn't impressed with their competition in another NWI city. We were really excited as the prospect of finding a nice place to take our frequent house guests. Unfortunately, neither of us were impressed with this place. There was no hostess available when we arrived, she came out of the bathroom about 10-15 minutes of us standing there with employees going by and not even acknowledging us. Then we waited at least an ADDITIONAL half an hour on a MONDAY. Finally we were seated at a table that had been empty THE ENTIRE TIME WE WAITED! Honestly, if we hadn't been so hungry we would have left. We didn't expect the salad bar to be "standard fair", we thought it would have items more native to Brazil. Some of the meat was really dry and overdone. The one we really liked we only saw once, and when we asked for it to be sent around again it never materialized. On the upside our waitress was GREAT (she said she had only been there 1-1/2 weeks)! However, this will be a one time experience. Next time we want to try something like this we'll just make the drive to Chicago or go to our favorite Brazilian Restaurant - Tango Sur (unfortunately not an AYCE).

I recently move to Valpo and was excited to eat at a Brazilian Steakhouse because all the ones I have been to were great. This place however, is the exception. I even ate there for my free birthday meal. My boyfriend paid about $30 for his meal so we figured about $15 for each of us plus tip was a ripoff! I would rather eat at McDonalds than eat here for free.
First, we had to wait 30 min and there were many tables available. They sat us in the very back corner which was dark and cold because the building must not be insulated very well. The food was bad. The salad bar was bad..nothing special especially for the prices they charge. They make you get salad first and they will not let you eat the meat unless you finish your salad which is ridiculous! Even the meat was bad. Overcooked and not even seasoned well. They tried to convince me to buy bottled water instead of drinking from a glass so they could further rip us off. On top of that, the service was slow. The atmosphere is horrible, I couldn't wait to get out of there. Don't go to this place even if it's free...unless you are really desparate for a free meal. In that case go for fast food and consider that what you would have spent on the tip or drin. This place is horrible. They give Brazilian Steakhouses a bad name.

This is the dirtiest restaurant I have ever ate at, not to mention the smell. I have never been to a Brazilian steak house where the gaucho wouldn't put my meat on my salad plate, he said my server would have to get me a clean plate..How lazy, and I know he is getting tipped out well by the server. The owner Sam Is very argumentative, and not customer friendly at all. Andre, the manager is just as bad as Sam and has a lot to learn about the restaurant business. When we first got there we had to wait a 1/2 hour even though there were empty tables. What is the matter the servers can't handle more than 2 tables? They could if the lazy bus boys would do their job. I would not recommend Gaucho's to my dog.

Okay food, some of the meat a little dry and overdone, salad bar okay. They were not coupon friendly. We were quoted one thing over the phone and it was different after dinner. Had to pay extra because they only accepted one coupon for our table of 8 people.

After reading these reviews, I was hesitant to go to Gaucho's but I took the chance and went and I am addicted. I thought the salad bar was great (all the food was fresh and tasty!). The waitress we had was very friendly, and polite and always came back every 20 minutes to check on us. The chefs who came around with the meat were very polite and brought us back well done pieces of meat like we asked for! As for the meat, it was absolutely scrumptious. The filet mignon and bacon wrapped chicken were to die for, the crab legs were high quality. I love the carmelized bananas! I was very impressed with the restaurant. My father and I were stuck in the corner away from everyone and afraid we would never get any meat but we had to turn our card to stop numerous times because we had more food than we knew what to do with. I highly recommend Gaucho's, it has high quality food at fairly reasonable prices if you pick the right day (we picked Wednesday for the all you can eat surf n'turf for $29.95.)

Just had dinner there tonight. The service was excellent, the food was delicious. We live in Chicago, but traveled there on word of mouth rave reviews. We have been to Fogo de Choa a few times, which is an excellent place, but this is just as good and a little more reasonable priced and I felt way better service. There was not a single thing from the salad bar, to the many meat and seafood items to dessert to the martini's that wasn't delicious. We will go back again and unlike Fogo de Choa, I will take my 4 children there (ages 14, 12, 7 and 2 1/2.

After reading some of the negative reviews below, it is clear that there are some people that will NEVER be pleased and they are only happy to complain about something, anything, because they have nothing better to do. Both my husband and I have worked in the restaurant business at some point in our lives and we can spot great service, great food and a place that will last, they were celebrating their 4th year and I'm sure there will be many more. I'm glad I didn't take those reviews to heart and made the 50min drive out there!!!!

I was real hesitant on going to Gaucho's after reading some of these reviews. But because of so much overwhelming good reviews from word of mouth, I couldn't help to go and try it myself. After my visit at Gaucho's I've come to the conclusion that there are obviously some people who just can't be pleased. For anyone that had a less than stellar experience at Gaucho's they must have not eaten at the gauchos in valparaiso..

We waited for an hour to be seated. The salad bar was plain. The meat had no taste or seasoning. It's over priced and not worth the money! They're stingy with the portions of meat. If you could get them to serve you. They charge $2.00 for cheap bottled water and don't tell you until you get your bill! The waitress Joey charged someone else's bill to my debit card and they didn't want to return the charges. I was billed twice, and the owner Sam didn't care to correct the matter. I will never go there again!

We just left Gaucho's and it was not what I expected. Everything is a promotion, therefore you can't use the restaurant.com coupon even though the paper states every Sunday. There was salad, condiments and 1 pasta salad. They start out bringing the meat and gradually forget about you. Then comes the bread and potatoes after you have eaten the meat not to mention they forgot the butter for the bread. Then by the time you are disgusted by the wait between meats they bring out dessert and forget to mention that each dessert is $6.95 per piece. Went there once and will destroy my coupons, call all my family that I purchased a coupon for and warn them. We won't be back.

The food was overpriced and mediocre at best. Not to mention the horrible service! The servers kept bringing around the same type of meat again and again and by the time they brought something new all our other food was cold. The bathrooms were disgusting. I'd hate to see what the kithchen looked like. I decided to give them another chance and attend our company party at their banquet room. More of the same. By the time I got to the buffet line most things were gone. I do not recommend this restaurant and will NEVER go back!

Gaucho's quickly became our favorite place to go- and the monthly specials and deals for kids has made it affordable to go more often. Our whole family enjoys every part of the meal- from the generous salad bar to the awesome mashed potatoes to, of course, the meats. The kids enjoy being able to take part in the Gaucho experience and we've only had the nicest (and most patient!) of servers and Gauchos attending to the many messes and needs of a large family. I personally recommend the cheesy bread rolls they bring to your table as well as the caramelized bananas (oh my!) and the parmesan chicken! Amazing!

I can't tell you how many places I've tried steak and it's all so disappointing because it all tastes so blah. Well not here. I am officially hooked. Not only does the steak taste incredible, it's always hot because the Gaucho's keep bringing more right off the grill. And the chicken and turkey is my wife's favorite. As much as I like to say I'm a red meat guy I have to sneak a couple pieces of the chicken parmesan and turkey for myself. It's really worth it. And the sides are just as incredible. The mashed potatoes are so good and I love the carmelized bananas. The staff was courteous without being pushy and everything was exactly the way I wanted it. I can't wait to get back to Gaucho's, it's my new favorite restaurant.

I live down the road from Gaucho??s and never tried it out, but always wanted to. I thought it was just like any other steakhouse. I decided to take my girlfriend there for a nice dinner. But, I was worried because my girlfriend isn??t a big steak eater. I was pleasantly surprised by the selection and service. I tend to be a little judgmental about service and when I go to a nice restaurant I expect the best in both service and the quality of food. At Gaucho??s we were politely greeted and walked through the process of the meal. We were shown to the salad bar and were blown away by the selection and freshness of everything. My girlfriend had a field day. I, myself being a there for the steak, was looking forward to the meat carvers. When they began to come around with all those meats I was in heaven. They were delicious especially the Brazilian cut. My girlfriend even enjoyed herself by eating the chicken parmesan and some other non-beef items. The carvers were polite and helped us through the process without cutting any part of us with those knives they wheeled around. It is a different experience and we had a blast. I think this restaurant has all the makings of being a NWI staple. The bar on the other side of the restaurant also looked cool (I was a little to full for a cocktail). So, my suggestion is to try it out, you will have a great time with great service and many different selections of delicious food.

I went to Gauchos on a Friday night. A lot of my friends told me I should go and I finally decided to go for it. So much food!! You should not eat the entire day if you are planning to go. The food keeps coming and coming. The meats were so moist and delicious. The salad bar had a variety of items( I suggest you definately try the bowtie salad.) I would recommend this place to everyone I know. I will definately be going back!!!

Please read the reviews and trust what they have to say! My family tried this restaurant today because we had purchased Restaurant.com gift certificates for it. As one of the other reviewers said, it looks like it could be a gentlemen's club from the outside. When you get in the restaurant it is dark and dingy and DIRTY. It smells like a stale ashtray. That was just the beginning. We then sit down at our table and take a drink out of our water glasses....it is WELL WATER! And not a tasty kind of well water either. Then, we order two plates. I give our waiter our Restaurant.com gift certificate (which was for $25). After we start being served the meat, the server comes back and says that the manager will not honor the gift certificate because tonight's dinner is considered "promotional"? So I talk to the manager who was very rude and he gives me the runaround. So at this point, I figure we will just suck it up and enjoy the meat. But the meat was of very poor quality. It was full of fat and gristle. Everything was over cooked or way under cooked. We have been to a couple of different Brazilian steak houses, and this one should not call itself that. I can easily say that it was the worse restaurant experience I have ever had. I do not see it being in business for long. Please, for the prices you are going to pay at this place, do yourself a favor and take the drive to Chicago.

My husband and I always drove past this place and finally tried it - we are in LOVE with it! The service was incredible - we were encouraged to relax and enjoy the experience! The food - even better. We weren't expecting that much food, but it was amazing. To top it off, we hobbled our full selves over to their lounge and enjoyed some live music and drinks. (I'd be lying if I told you we didn't share a second round of desert later after a few cocktails)! We ended up staying several hours and enjoyed every minute! We'll definitely be back to this place and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great evening!

Gauchos staff is RUDE, IMPATIENT, and UNFRIENDLY. The free birthday meal is a SCAM. We ate in May 2010 and the hostess stared us down without a greeting or a smile. It was horribly overcrowded but she managed to seat us. My chair got bumped into every time a server walked by. There are several staff walking around and each step they take shakes the floor and your chair. Our server acted impatient like it was an inconvenience to be waiting on us. Several of the meat carvers acted the same way, just plain RUDE, SHORT, and treated us like idiots. It was very bizarre! As for the food, nothing special on the salad bar and the meats all tasted the same. The meats were salty and either way undercooked or overcooked and dry. HERE??S THE BEST PART ?? they state on their website that you get a free Feast of Meats for you birthday. NOT TRUE. We only got $25 taken off our bill because apparently the Feast of Meats meal is $35 on Saturday, not $25 and so we had to make up the difference. THEY NEED TO STATE THIS ON THEIR WEBSITE. We are NOT hard to please diners by any means, and Gauchos managed to really turn us off. Tip to Gauchos, train your staff to be friendly and SMILE and maybe customers won??t get upset when you don??t honor your promotions. I have never written a review before, but I just had to warn you, it was THAT BAD. Spend your money at Pestos instead.

Owner of Gaucho's,

I was at your restraunt last night. I had won a gift certificate at the charity auction at the Porter County Fair. I had never been to you restraunt before yesterday. I checked your website first for your hours- it said you were open til 11. I walked in with my wife- who had got all dressed up- and we stood there for about 3 minutes. A young man who looked about 16 came and told us that you didnt seat anyone after 10. So we walked out, and I looked at my phone- It was 9:58. I ripped up my gift certificate- Its on your parking lot. If you dont want my business, I dont want to give it to you. We frequently go to Kelsey's- at least once a week. You lost your chance to convert me to Gaucho's. You lost a lot of money too. But worse yet, I plan on telling everyone! Maybe you should train your staff a little better on customer service, or at least on how to read a clock!

We went to Gaucho's Brazilian Steakhouse for my birthday. I had wanted to go there for several years, but was waiting until we could afford to go. I was so thrilled when I bought my Entertainment book and there was a coupon in there for $35 off. My sister planned a surprise gathering for me at Gaucho's with my brother and my sisters. There was a total of 12 of us at the table.

My sister had called previously because we all had coupons from our Entertainment books-a total of 4-with 4 seperate checks at the table. She was told over the phone that we all could use our coupons. However, the waitress informed us that we could only use one coupon at the table-no matter how many seperate checks there were-and that kids usually ate free, but since someone at our table was using a coupon-we would be charged $14.95 per child-despite the fact that they were on seperate checks from the coupon. We had 3 children at the table.

My husband and I thought we would be spending about $60 for the evening, with the use of our coupon-that is-but we ended up spending $100-because we all decided to let our brother and his girlfriend use their coupon, since they just had a baby a month before.

On top of this "screw job", the meat server-with the dark skin and dark hair-looked to be about 17 or 18-was very mean. I had never been to a Brazilian Steakhouse before, so I did not know the proper etiquette when removing my meat from the skewer. He was cutting a rib off of the skewer and told me to "grab it" so, not thinking, I did, with my hand, and he literally yelled "WITH THE TONGS"-I felt like an idiot-then I apoligized and laughed with embarassment and he said nothing-did not smile or anything at all. When he returned later with another skewer with a different meat on it-I made a joke and told him not to worry-I would use my tongs-again, no facial expression whatsoever, no words were said by him. Needless to say-it ruined my special birthday celebration. My sister wrote a complaint-since she witnessed the entire ordeal-and got no answer in return.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PLACE! It was NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE-I STILL HAVE MY $35 COUPON, AND IT WILL GO DIRECTLY INTO THE GARBAGE CAN-THE ONLY MEAT THAT WAS GOOD WAS THE RIBS-MY FILET MIGNON WAS ALL FAT-the "brazilian mashed potatoes" were aweful-there really wasn't much variety on the salad bar either.

Take the money you were going to spend at Gaucho's and go to the House Of Kobe on Broadway in Merrillville-by Burlington Coat Factory-and have a GREAT MEAL-with courteous staff, delicious food-which is cheaper than Gaucho's too-be sure to try the Kobe Royal, and California Rolls-which is a sushi, but it is cooked-and THEY CARE ABOUT THEIR PATRONS.
