It seems I'm very hard to please, one time I got the hair cut/style of my dreams, but even that stylist couldn't repeat his success. Recently moving here from Manhattan, I thought I'd be commuting for balyage and cut, but that got old really fast. It was Janine's expertise in balyage that brought me to Edmondo's salon. I'd read about Janine in reviews in major glamour magazines online. Janine is fabulous and I cut the cord to Manhattan, the commute and the cost. Also gotta love Janine's humble attitude. Also, seriously the most amazing blow dry in the world.
When Janine suggested I see Edmondo to elevate the style we were working on together, I was relying on her good taste and judgment. I love a professional who has enough self-confidence and caring to recommend someone else.
I was skeptical but Edmondo blew me away. He looked at my very full head of very long very thick naturally wavy/curlywhenit'shumid heavily processed blond hair that I admittedly took a scissors to myself a few times like it was a LEGO kit, and oh, that goes here, and this goes like that, and all you have to do this this this and this and a few very comfortable clips later my work in progress was elevated to really pretty! It was so easy for him and he was so nice about it.

All most people want when they go to a salon is to get their hair the way they want it to look. If a salon can deliver that, it's a gem. This is one of those gems.

I also love the location, I like the fruit infused water, the fresh soft pretzels, they have the nicest most competent check in staff I have ever had anywhere- seriously. What is it about every salon in Manhattan that they have to have the rudest meanest least competent people manning the phones and the appointment book? OK OK back to Salon Vanity. So the stress level is very, very low. I like the view. But even if they were hard to reach, had nasty people answering the phones, cost twice as much, and only served bad coffee, as long as Janine keeps doing my balyage and Edmondo gorgeousifies my hair, I'd still give it 5 stars and keep coming back. (Funny, I actually had all that in Manhattan, and they didn't do anywhere near as good a job!)

I wrote this before I read the other reviews and on the one hand, they are all 5 years old, some of the people mentioned have left, and I suppose everyone has their good and bad days, and maybe there are mostly good days and I was lucky to have one of those, but I also have to say I have seen some of the rudest most miserable impossible to please clients here. Yes, I agree there is New York hair and Philly hair, and I was worried about that, but I think it has to do with with what you want, and how you communicate that. I think the people you see leaving Salon Vanity with "Philly hair" have that because that's what they want. (Look at local newscasters in both cities.) Considering I made my first appointment via email and contact forms from Singapore, and used to fly to San Francisco for a cut, I feel pretty confident in that assessment- Salon Vanity knows how to cut and color hair like other cities, just ask them to do it.
I also know how it feels to be prepping for surgery, talk about stress. So maybe it was a situation begging for misunderstanding.
Any case, this is my experience, best to all.

Recently visited my stylist Jenn (formerly of vanity) at Architeqt Salon. Pretty impressed! Have been getting compliments on my hair ever since she started coloring it 4 years ago. Following her a few more blocks ton10th is totally worth it for how good she makes me feel when I leave!

I felt compelled to write a review because I feel very strongly about every experience I have had at Salon Vanity. I always walk out with my hair looking beautiful and absolutely stunning EVERY time without fail. I have been going to Eddie for a couple of years now and he is the most talented stylist I have ever seen and I am as high maintenance as they come. Eddie knows exactly what colors to use and they always come out beautifully every single time. He is genius with his haircuts and his haircuts last and stay beautiful for weeks. I have also gone to Heather as well whose haircuts are equally as good. I have tried several salons in the past and there is NOTHING that compares to Salon Vanity. In the past couple of years I have recommended numerous people with various hair types and hair styles to Eddie and they have never been disappointed. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is very comfortable. If you are looking for the BEST salon in the area with the TOP stylists then Salon Vanity is the place and only place to go, trust me you will not be disappointed.

Very Self centered and the staff are horrible. I felt like I was at a fasion competition the whole time. Eyes wondering everywhere. I felt so uncomfortable here. The 200.oo I spent on a hair cut? was crazy. Eddie the owner, kept talking about all the other girls working in the salon...I started to feel like he was just trying to use me as his phsyco therrapy session. He kept on going and gossiping about everyone...even some other customer getting her hair done. Stay Away!!

I am new to Philly, and am very picky about my hair. I heard that Salon Vanity had recently moved to Rittenhouse and was very convenient for me to go to. I made an apointment for a cut and color with Beth on a Sunday afternoon. The salon was quiet, but worked conveniently into my schedule. When I came in the receptionist was friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Beth greeted me and made me feel comfetable with what I was asking for. When she was done I had the long layers and dark color with mocha highlights that I had wanted. She then mentioned to me that I should try a new treatment called a brazillion blowout to help me with my annoyingly frizzy hair. I booked an appointment a few weeks later to try it. WOW what a difference! My hair usually takes me a minimum of 30 minutes to dry, and with this treatment takes me at least half the time. It was great at the beach and feels sooo much smoother. I have nothing but positive things to say about Beth and the salon and will be returning for my next cut and color :)

I'd been going to Edmondo Blando on and off for years. He's a great stylist, and I've been happy with his work if not enthused to shoulder his ego while in his chair. He takes hair seriously, oh so seriously, and we've repeatedly been at an impasse as he looks past my ripped leggings and day old mascara to assume I??ll arise at 4 a.m. to do my hair. Whatever happened to visual cues, buster? Last week, I thought I'd love a perm. I had an appointment for cut and color, and I called the next business day to change it to a perm. I was told my spot was with Eddie, the owner and my stylist. I get my confirmational phone call and girlfriend says my perm appointment is with Danielle. I make a few inquiries, and I'm told that Danielle only inserts the rods and that Eddie runs the show as my stylist. I go back to work, shrugging shoulders.
Thursday arrives and I show up for my appointment. I meet with Danielle, who red lights the perm. It won't look good, she says. I nod and ask what else I can do to change it up. The conversation brims with enthusiasm for hair I obviously don??t have. I don't ask my roofer how he attaches the shingles, and I don't care how you get my hair a certain color. Just do it, and don't bore me with details.
At some juncture in the conversation, me, an ex-NYer claims I want New York hair, not Philly hair. This, apparently, is an inflammatory statement met with similar ire as "Kill infidels!" I am delivered a name-dropping, egomaniacal diatribe. I have clearly offended Eddie and make a meek attempt at backpedaling, despite the fact that my statement remains legitimate in that NY has a different style than Philly. This is not a judgment on someone's career, rather a truthful observation made by someone that's inhabited both cities. I am also told to wait until after surgery to get my hair cut and colored, since this is the best time for the color to sit or something. Nevermind that I will be bedridden in recovery, it's all about how the color sets, isn't it, ladies? So what if I can't get out of bed, I'll just roll down to the salon on a gurney.
Bottom line, my appointment is no longer honored as Eddie's book has managed to fill up during the time that I walked through the door. I am ushered out of the salon and told that it's not my fault I changed the appointment; at no juncture is there an apology issued for the miscommunication regarding the proper stylist at the appointment or a platitude for wasting my time. Flat out, I??m booted.
The lovely receptionist, Whitney, promised she'd call with a cancellation, and told me to call as well. I called the salon today and reiterated my tale to Amy, who told me that Eddie would call me personally before abruptly hanging up. My phone rings an hour later; Eddie tells me never to set foot in his salon again, and that he will never again touch my hair. The horror! The tears! I give him a chipper "ok!" before hanging up. What else is there to say? My phone rings several more times. It's Eddie calling from a blocked number.
And so, I was kicked out like a damn terrorist after trying to get an appointment which I was told by their own staff I already had. Exiling me was unneccesary, the repeated phone calls harassment. On top of the egomaniacal behavior, my personal needs as a customer were neglected entirely.
Don't go to this salon unless you are prepared for a misunderstanding on the part of the salon to be translated into your ultimate dismissal by a narcissistic and hostile salon owner.
Meanwhile, I'm going to get my hair done this afternoon in peace.

I cannot begin to express how caring the staff at Salon Vanity is. I am writing to Thank you for transforming my damaged, fried, weak, locks into beautiful, healthy, shiny hair thats actually mine! It took 3-4 months but at least i was not told "More highlights will brighten your skin tone" and slammed with an expensive bill and damaged hair like the previous 3 stylists did. Thank you Edmondo (and Brie) for really caring and respecting my hair ! You are truly a talented and very special stylist!
For the record very respectful and professional !!!!

When you first walk into Salon Vanity you notice how sweet the young ladies at the front desk are, and what a beautiful atmosphere it is. Long story short, I was a first time client with Janine, I sat in the waiting area and noticed this messy blond clunk into the backroom as I prayed that wasn't who Janine was. Turns out it was, as 20 minutes AFTER my appointment she finally comes over to me still chewing her food, with a dress so short I literally saw more than I needed to see of her. Aside from her horrible appearance, this woman was utterly obnoxious. Yelling for her assistant and screaming in my ear. I left the salon with horrible color, a crooked haircut, and a nice blowout her assistant gave me. I don't think I'll be returning to Salon Vanity any day soon.

Heather at Salon Vanity really knows what she is doing. She has a wonderful touch, I love my haircuts from her! She is knowledgeable and creative in her individualized approach. She is honest and has the perfect balance of having an opinion (based on experience) and collaborating with me to give me a style that I want to achieve.

The Salon moved recently to a beautiful space with lots of light through wrap around windows. It's in a very central location in Rittenhouse/Walnut Street; always fun to shop and get a bite to eat before or after the cut.

I went to Salon Vanity for highlights and a cut with Beth Cooper. She did an amazing job. I love my hair and get tons of compliments. The Salon is so nice! Wonderful space; great open layout.

If you want great highlights, go see Beth. I'm definitely going back :)

i have had a mohawk or just shaved my head for the past 'can't-remember-how-many' years. i decided it was time to grow up and get a big boy haircut and i'm glad i did. Jennifer took great care of me along with the rest of the friendly staff. i wasn't sure what i wanted and just let Jennifer do her thing. i have never received so many compliments on my hair before.
the salon is very nice on the inside and offers a nice view of the busy city streets. i highly recommend salon vanity and Jennifer.
p.s.- i heard Jennifer was recently on the news showing off new styles for women AND she just won "Best of Philly".

the salon is very nice on the inside and offers a nice view of the busy city streets. i highly recommend salon vanity and Jennifer.
p.s.- i heard Jennifer was recently on the news showing off new styles for women AND she just won "Best of Philly".

I only trust my hair to Heather at Salon Vanity- I've been going to her for YEARS and she always does an amazing job- every time I get my hair colored and cut by her I feel like a million bucks. She is very knowledgeable and knows what'll look good on you- trust her and you'll be fine!

I always get a cut and a color from her and this last time I got a Brazilian blowout which took down the frizz factor on my hair! Just in time for summer thank god!

I love going to see Heather- she is fun to chat with while she is doing you hair too!

I'd recommend Heather to anyone, male or female that wants and amazing cut and color!

I get stopped at least once a week by people asking me "Who cuts your hair?". I have short hair with a very stylish cut. Maintenance is so easy that I can wear it different ways by just running my fingers through it. The person responsible for this is Heather O'Malley. She gives an incredible cut and I can rely on her to give me honest great hair advice. Vanity's new space is awesome, so convenient, luxurious and comfortable. Salon Vanity and Heather are the best!

I created an account for the sole purpose of reviewing vendors in this city that I used on my wedding day.

While I hate the term "bridezilla," and refuse to be called such, I admit that like nearly all brides, I was very picky about my hair on my wedding day. I wanted a style that looked modern yet romantic, wasn't over-the-top, and would withstand the events of this long, yet wonderful day of my life.

I went to Heather after reading reviews on CitySearch. Months prior to my wedding, I went to her for a consultation. I showed her a few photos of what I like and described what I don't like. Heather listened very intently to my needs and responded very well. While wedding day related services often make brides more nervous than they really were in the first place, the ease of conversation with Heather and her hair expertise really helped calm me down.

Heather did a Brazilian blowout on my hair (to get rid of any frizz), colored it to the exact shade that I desired, and produced a beautiful up do that I get still get compliments on when I meet up with friends still weeks after the wedding. (A few of them had their hair down by Heather as well, and shared in my sentiments.)

I highly recommend Heather for wedding hair, as well as for coloring and anti-frizz treatments. I looked and felt beautiful on my wedding and I truly hold her responsible for my "hair happiness!" A+

I am a male who goes to Heather for my haircuts. She always does a great job and stays current with the trends. My wife is the one that got me started with Heather, and she does a great job on her as well (though she doesn't need much to look beautiful). Heather did the hair for our wedding and my wife was very happy and looked beautiful as ever.

This hair salon is really my favorite place ! Besides making you look beautiful, the staff is so very nice, its all about the customer service. They really care about the way your hair feels and looks. Here is my hair story: ( Edmondo is my color & cut stylist but Heather does my Keratins)
I had very dry, damaged, bleach blonde hair and every salon i went to just kept putting in highlights and damaging my hair more and more.
But when i sat with Edmondo, he cut my hair and refused to color it !!! Which I WAS NOT HAPPY about. He simply told me to give my hair a rest & gave me a mask to use for 2 weeks then told me to come back for color .....so i finally went back and got another conditioning treatment and my color
I am so happy he treated my hair first then colored it. The color is Beautiful!!! And the condition of my hair is 100 times better than before. I am really happy that he is taking the right steps to correct my hair and color - any other salon would have given me a $200 tab and by now i would be bold. So THANK YOU to the caring team at Salon Vanity !!!!!

After reviewing City Search, my now husband suggested that I let Heather do my hair on my wedding day. I had her do my hair many months before in the salon and she seemed to really know hair. However, on two occasions between that time and my wedding I had questions about the wedding day and in both cases she took between 5 days and two weeks to return my calls.

Furthermore, she not only could not provide services to do the touch up prior to the ceremony but SHE WAS LATE GETTING TO THE VENUE ON THE DAY OF MY WEDDING. Furthermore, she claimed that the tight setting would hold all day and in fact it barely lasted into mid afternoon. Overall all other vendors were outstanding and provided serves that were better than we could have imagined. But, my overall interaction with Heather was grossly suboptimal and a huge disappointment....D-.......stay away....Just impossible to deal with on the most important day of my life. Wish we knew in advance...

I was referred to Salon Vanity by a friend and I thought it was reputably good....but it is completely and totally overrated. I wanted to go back to my natural blonde from a dark brown and needed to trust a service that was supposed to do an amazing job, especially for their high-end prices, so I was hoping I'd get my money's worth....but no, I spent almost $400 to have Janine turn my hair from dark brown to flaming-orange. The highlights were barely noticeable, and the color was horrible and made my face seem washed-out. To top it off, when the foils came off, I heard a resounding "WOW! It came out better than I expected" from my stylist. Well? What exactly did you have in mind? Nowhere in our consultation did I ever say Orange, Red, Yellow, Flaming, nor did I ever say I wanted it completely depleted of it's hydration - she left my hair dry and over-processed....I wanted NATURAL, and I wanted myself back again. I would have even been okay with a two-step process, I knew it took a little while to go from dark brown to blonde.

I complained to the owner, who offered me to come back for free and have my hair fixed by their master colorist - who was very nice and polite. Unfortunately the color of my hair, although "fixed" by Gary, was not what I wanted in the first place. I will never EVER go back there again and waste my money. If I had known it would have turned out the way it did, I should have just done it out of a box bought at CVS for $8.

I will say this: Janine did apologize, however it doesn't take back what was done to my hair. This happened a few months ago, and it still angers me.

I went to Janine after trying out 3 different highly rated salons in Philadelphia. Each one messed up my hair in a different way. (color, cut, highlight you name it) Needless to say my hair was a circus of disasters.

Janine listened to what I wanted and got it right. The Salon is clean which is a definite plus and everyone is so friendly.

They are moving to the Rittenhouse area in March and I look forward to being a loyal customer!

I recently visited Salon Vanity for the first time. The stylist that did my hair had been there for 5+ years. I was very unhappy with my highlights due to the fact that they did not start at my scalp. Rather, they started about a 1/2 inch down. The first 1/2 inch of my hair was a solid brown color - that was applied after the highlights were applied. I told the stylist that this brown color looked "reddish", but she completely disagreed with me and told me it was the lighting. In addition, the owner was very unfriendly as he walked around and supervised his employees. Services were over-priced...paid $150 for partial highlights.

Established a relationship with Ed prior to his opening Salon Vanity, and followed him to the new salon blindly. I respect his work ethic. I respect his energetic, but conscience manner with his staff, as well as his clients. But mostly, I respect his passion and pure love for what he does. I have NEVER instructed him in a hair cut or a color. He's an artist and I have always believed you should trust an artist's instincts. Even if it's MY hair and I'M paying. My philosophy works, because over the years, I have received the most effusive and memorable compliments on my hair from family, co-workers and complete strangers on the street. Furthermore, there's no "airs" at Vanity. It's upscale. But they'll treat you to food, wine, restaurant advice, even a little back massage because they care that you chose them.

I have been going to Heather for the past 4 months and have never been happier with my hair. The cut is great and so easy to manage. I get compliments on it almost every day and always recommend Heather. She listens to what you like and what you dislike and gives you the perfect cut to fit you. She knows exactly what looks best on me when it comes to color. My blonde looks so natural and dimensional. Heather is highly recommended.

I searched all over this city for a good hairdresser - and finally gave up and found someone reasonable and good in NYC - but he retired! I tried someone at a salon around 8th & Walnut and received the worst haircut in my whole life! I searched the internet and decided to try Edmondo Blando (Eddie) at Salon Vanity. My hair is fine and must be cut well - cut in the way that it falls naturally - not into some shape from a magazine. I live and die by the cut! I have now been twice to see Eddie and am very pleased with the haircuts that he has given me. I especially like that he uses a technique whereby he cuts my hair "dry." It seems to make a big difference. I had actually heard of this technique and was considering traveling to NYC again to try a hairdresser who "cuts dry." But I then found out that this is how Eddie cuts hair (I believe following the techniques of the internationally known Swiss hairdresser Mike Karg). My hair feels and looks natural and grows in nicely and I have had many compliments. Eddie has shown me how to easily take care of it by myself, and it is a relief to find someone in the city who knows about cutting hair. That sounds like a simple thing but I have been to most of the salons here and most hairdressers do not even seem to know the difference. I have no problem recommending Eddie at Salon Vanity.

I came to Salon Vanity, and at first, it was great. But I went recently and Eddie called me the wrong name because he was working on 3 other people at the same time. There is no more individual attention and the results are suffering - I am moving to another salon - I advise that you take the $200 style somewhere else where you will feel like you are listened to and have some personal attention

I had my hair cut and colored twice by Ed. The first time I felt that the cut and color were OK, but that we could build on making things even better. The one thing that I was not happy about was the fact that he did not color all the way down, leaving brown in the part area where blonde should be. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, even though he stated to me that he thought most people would come back in a months time to get a touch-up. I needed a touch-up right away.

When I returned on my next appointment I stated two things upfront; that my roots needed to be completely covered and that my top layers needed to remain intact with just some basic styling. As I was waiting I noticed that he left another clients hair with that same dark root area. I also noticed that everybody in the salon seemed to be receiving the same "leave in round brush blowout." That blowout, though nice, is not practical for anyone to do at home and it also puffs the hair out. When he was finished he stated to me that he changed my top a bit so that I could wear a ponytail. I was mystified since I do not wear ponytails and had told him not to do anything radical to the top.

After returing home and then washing it, I noticed that the color job was as poor as could be. An even larger chunk of my hair was still left brown, and on top of that he really chopped up the top that I asked him to leave alone for the most part. Even my new hair dresser told me that it would take months for those layers to grow back in and that they were cut poorly.

Even my new hair dresser told me that it would take months for those layers to grow back in and that they were cut poorly.

Pros: relaxed atmosphere, hair product knowledge

Cons: attention to detail, assembly line mentality, parking, cost

Every time I leave the salon I feel like a whole new person! It is filled with the absolute nicest and most skilled professionals out there! It is no surprise that clients come from all over to have their hair done! I would not go anywhere else!!

i've been searching for a good stylist for several years...eddie was recommended by several friends of mine who are just as picky as myself. not only was i blown away by the dry cut he gave me, but the color is so beautiful!! eddie's assistant melissa is the sweetest person....the salon is clean, comfortable and the least bit pretentious. everyone was extremely accomidating. it's nice to see everyone work together professionally as well as they do. there's just a great energy flowing through the place! i would absolutely recommend salon vanity to anyone looking for quality and satisfaction. i promise you they will deliver it.

Had a haircut by the Eddie, the owner. It was expensive like I expected but while he was blowing out my hair he decided to go an talk to this old lady for 30 mins about box hair dyes. He kept saying she comes here every week to find out what boxed hair dye to buy although he doesn't use it. Honestly, I don't care, just finish blowing out my long hair. He is very rude, if I am spending alot of money on my hairstyle, I don't want to be neglected. And I also here that owners are not supposed to accept tips... he eagerly accepted my 50 dollar bill.

I went there for a haircut and got pushed into highlights after being told my hair was "mousy and dull" by the owner ed. Three hundred dollars later my hair looks just the same. The owner ed is in love with himself and is very pushy about what he wants to do with your hair. He needs to tone it down its philadelphia not paris

I am a crazy person about my hair. I have been to over 30+ salons in my life time and I have always felt like my hair could look better. I would do searches online in The Philly area and try to go to the Top Rated Salons. I would always be disappointed by the cut, color, or "better then you service" which I would then hate to go back no matter if i kind of liked it. Salon Vanity was recommended to me and I figured I would give it a shot. I have been going there for over a year now and have recommended the Salon to over 12 people who have had services there and all come out saying the same thing "my hair has never looked this good", no matter what type of hair they have. The staff and atmosphere is so welcoming for this high end salon. I go to Eddie who is fabulous and amazing at cut and color. I have never stopped so many times on the street asking "where do you go"?. I wanted to write a review about another service I had done there which has made my "hair" life so much easier. I had the Keratin treatment done by Heather which left my hair smooth, frizz free, and cut my blowdry and style time in half. I don't know how I managed without it. I have had other treatments done that have not worked as well or left my hair damaged, dry, and then had to be cut off. I have wavy and thick hair and now I don't have to use a flat iron, where before I used a flat iron twice a day. I never write these reviews but I felt I had to based on these experiences I have had and so many girls I know always complaining how they hate their hair. With Heather and Eddie you don't have to walk around this city unhappy with you hair ever again. Don't waste your time anywhere else, you will not be disappointed!

Vanity is the best salon in Philly. Eddie did such a great job on my highlights that I received so many compliments from friends and even strangers. The brush blowout is the best! Everyone needs to experience it! I highly recomment Vanity to anyone. You will experience great service and you can also trust that they will make you look beautiful.

i just had my hair done by Heather..i was happy when i left the salon..& especially when i went home to my husband, he asked who did my hair? He thought it looked great & said "you look so much younger"! He doesn't normally comment on my hair, so i was so happy...i especially loved the sitting area, where i sat while my color was processing..it was very cozy & comfortable...there was even drinks & snacks provided & we could enjoy a fun movie!

I am a review virgin. I have never posted a comment to a public site but I feel compelled to recommend Salon Vanity since I have been going there for just over 2 years now!

You know that you have had a good haircut when you want to take your new do out on a date. Whenever I make an appointment with Eddie, I make plans for drinks with my girlfriends! He listens to me but always keeps my ideas for a new cut in check by making sure it works with the way my hair falls and that it will frame my face the right way. He knows how to cut layers perfectly for the way my hair falls. It is hard to find a stylist that you truly trust. Eddie is so talented and the Salon Vanity staff is so friendly and accommodating. I always recommend Eddie and Salon Vanity -- especially since I get so many compliments on my hair!

I had this done by Heather last month and my hair looks fantastic. I have had my hair straightened by every method known to man, and this is by far the best. Other methods leave the hair dry and damaged, but this leaves it silky smooth! Amazing! I have had so many compliments since I have had this done (even from guys).

When I get caught in the snow, rain, or humidity, my hair doesn?t frizz up at all?and it is super-easy to blow-dry.

I am totally hooked on this service and now all off my nappy headed friends want to get this done too!

Thanks Heather and Eddie!

I'm very picky when it comes to someone cutting my hair. I've known Heather for 6 years and she is the only person I trust to cut my hair. I met her in Jersey while she was working for another salon. When I found out two weeks ago that she moved to Salon Vanity, I freaked out because no one can cut hair like Heather and I've never been in the city before. I am definately not a city girl; however, Salon Vanity changed my mind. The environment is perfect and the people are very nice, (the receptionist stayed on the phone with me until I found the parking garage). Salon Vanity is highly recommened to those who want only the best!!!
