No surprises, and it may not "tickle your palate" - but it will satisfy your sushi cravings with decently sized pieces that are fresh, if not imaginatively served. Prices aren't bad, and the wait is less than comparable places like Yama,

My fiancee and I were just walking down the block when we saw the place. We figured we'd give it a shot because it looked unique, had interesting decor, and we love sushi. It wasn't very loud at 6pm on a Friday but we heard this place

I first stumbled upon Mizu over 3 years ago and have been a customer ever since. In fact, my friends request going to Mizu every time we go out. They love it too. The Sushi is always fresh and tasty. I love the King Salmon and the Wild Kampachi Sashimi. The Samurai 2 roll is one of my personal favorites and is out of this world. In the mood for something tasty? Ask about the Sushi Bar Appetizer. They'll know you want. Check out Mizu and see why I go weekly!

I decided to try Mizu for lunch, I ordered Kani salad, 2 spicy tuna rolls in cucumber, while my friend had a Bento Box.

Kani salad was great but overpriced at $8. The cucumber spicy tuna was not spicy AT ALL. I asked someone if I could have spicy mayo to put on top, she claimed it was spicy and my tastebuds were dead. There was NO spice. She kept arguing with me, making like I won a national jalapeno-eating contest or something. Without the spice, the tuna looked and tasted like cat food. Also, 2 rolls consisted of 8 pieces, which I paid $22 for.... seems excessive.

My friend noted that her Bento box was nothing extraordinary either. I wouldn't come back to this overhyped place.

It appears that Mizu is not aware of this "recession" we are in. When they should feel lucky to even acquire business they would rather care more about containers. I phoned in an order for delivery which totaled $75. You'd think that they would jump at an opportunity for sales but when I requested that the rolls be separated since they were for a dinner meeting at our office, she refused and said (rudely) that she could not separate the rolls and that if I wanted to separate she would have to charge me extra! I laughed in her ear and informed her that we would be ordering from someone who could satisfy our simple request. I called MONSTER SUSHI on 23rd and they were happy to separate our rolls. Very simple: 4 containers containing 3 rolls each! Too bad for money hungry Mizu. They will surely suffer with that greedy approach to "customer service".

one of my standard sushi spots before a night out, happy hour or dining with a group of 4(or more). the restaurant caters especially to all of the above. the sashimi and rolls are above par and moderately priced.

if you're looking for a place to go with a group, mizu is it. the music ranges from hip hop and catchy techno/house which helps complement the occasional saki bombs.

what makes this place great is also the downfall. it's only a matter of time before i feel i'm way too old for this sort of thing.

GOOD FRESH Sushi in a neighborhood location. Order your favorites but try some of the chef's specialties, for example the Crazy Roll of tempura-breaded spicy tuna with flying fish roe. Worth a visit on its own and be sure to ask what else the chef is creating these days that is a departure from the ordinary. Recommended!

Fantastic Sushi offered at reasonable prices at Mizu. Hip place with pretty loud music but also slightly crammed. It will get very busy on a weekend evening. Highly recommended! I have brought many friends here and they all thought that it was wonderful and they continue to return as well.

I work in the area and have ordered here a couple of times and always being disappointed with what I got. It's not that the food is horrible or gross. It's just not that great. It gets a C average. I didn't like the spicy tuna roll. I got a bento box with tofu and veggies and that wasn't great either. I also wondered if the crab in my California roll was real or imitation crab.

I have always enjoyed Mizu. The Paul roll is amazing as well as the Karate Roll. All the rolls always taste very fresh!
It is crowded on any night of the week with mostly a younger crowd.
I would recommend this as a fantastic sushi restaurant.

Lovely sushi and exquisite sake makes Mizu one of the hottest spots in the city. Settings are little tight but stuff is helpful and keeps you comfortable.

Sometimes it's hard to find great sushi at a reasonable price in NYC. Mizu has always delivered. The hostess, sushi chefs, wait staff, and owner have always been up for keeping it special and/or fun for the occasion (we've done sake bombs with the owner to celebrate birthdays - 8 people!). Though the place is small and central (right by union sq) which means on weekend nights it gets crowded. The Agedashi Tofu is one of my favorite dishes and they make it beautifully and serve it perfect. I don't often get cooked food, normally rolls and sashimi, so I can't comment, but I can't imagine it being any different in terms of quality from their sushi. My favorite special rolls that they offer are Naruto, Crystal, and Yuki rolls. But every type of roll I've had in the 4 years I've been there has always been good. A couple things to keep in mind about the atmosphere, it's not a quiet restaurant. I think it has to do with the wood decor. In the winter since there isn't much standing room and people waiting crowd by the door, the tables by the door get a bit breezy. But during the summer, they keep it very well A/C'd. I love going to this place for Japanese food.

We liked the food and ordered Miitzo quite often and always had a bill of over 100.00. We'd tip the delivery guy 5.00 for walking across the street (they are on 20th, we're on 19th). Being that we gave them so much business we were shocked when we called in to place an order and were told we could no longer order food from their restaurant unless we tipped the delivery guy "15-20%."

Yes, the food is good but the greed made sure none of us ever ate there again. $15.00-$20.00 for carrying a bag across the street?!

Had dinner on a Wednesday night, 8.30pm and the place was PACKED! Luckily, we had reservations, but unfortunately, still had to wait about 15 minutes. They also don't have a waiting area, so it got a bit tight. However, the hostess was so nice and apologetic. When we were seated, we were asked to move -- which was a bit annoying but since the place was so busy -- it was understandable. Things like this happen -- but again, the hostess was very accomodating and gave us a complimentary dish. I think the hostess apologetic attitude made the difficult decision easy.
The food was surprisingly good. Had the vegetable dumplings, seaweed salad and a bunch of rolls. It was unbelievably cheap for the quality of the food and area. The service was okay. We had to ask for waters and teas -- which is a sign and I can't quite remember our server because she only came by once. Usually, Japanese restaurants are known for their service but I wasn't greatly impressed.
The ambiance was fun and the music was not too loud.
I would go back again - hopefully, not on such a crazy, busy night but would go back for cheap, good sushi.

UNBELIEVABLE! For the first time in my life, someone actually dared to ask for more tip. Right after we sat down, the menu and luke warm towels were THROWN at us. It's like we sat down at the wrong table or something, even though the place was nearly empty. Throughout the whole night, we had to constantly ask for more tea or water, even though there were three available waitors/waitresses. Our subtotal was $81, I gave $10, which was still a decent 12% tip. The waitress came back asked if everything was ok, I said, things were ok, but not great. Then she demanded that I give at least 15% tip ($2 more). I asked if that was mandatory, she said they usually get 16-18%. I was not going to fight for $2 more, so I wrote it in. But what horrible service? As if the 15% is now mandatory.
The food was ok, NOT great like other reviews have mentioned. And the crowd wasn't all that. We went on a Friday night around 7:30pm, the place wasn't even half filled. If this place was great, must have been when it first opened up. Because it really isn't. Try it out for yourself, but be prepared to fight if you don't put in enough tip.

A friend and I met at Mizu last night for dinner; after a short wait of 15 minutes, we were given a nice little table by the window. We shared a bottle of sake, an order of edamames, and she had the sushi plate while I had the sashimi. What generous portions! I found the variety of the sashimi plate to be satisfying - fresh and yummy. As far as the service goes, the waitresses were not particularly friendly, but they got the job done. You don't go to Mizu for excellent service, you go for the large amounts of food, the amiable atmosphere, and the hole-in-the-wall feeling of the place.

The editorial review led me to believe this would be a fun/happening dinner spot, but that wasn't exactly true. While the food was excellent, it wasn't cheap (though not extremely expensive either). The service was mediocre, and the lack of air conditioning made for a less than comfortable meal. The decor is really blah, and not at all hip or happening. So, for good food i'd recommend it, but not for a fun night out. The people in the restaurant were pretty obnoxious and loud.

Well first of all, u can find this kinda sushi even in queens with much better deal in price. Mizu tried to make bigger sushi but bigger not always better! They tend to fall apart before we eat them.

And the not so good english spoken-management even dissapointed my guest that I brought few night ago. Servers are NOT patient, NOT professionally trained when handling questions and are NOT well-knowledge about the foods. In result, they misleaded our orders...

Place is too noisy, too small and NOT Air Conditioned..which is unbelieveable. Basically not comfortable at all!

So dissapointed.....and will never come back!!

I love Mizu. I liked it when it first opened and it was quiet and cozy. I stopped going for a while when it became a haven for the bridge and tunnel crowd enjoying their first beers and saki drops. The place has quieted down and I love it again. EXCEPT IN THE SUMMERTIME. Service is great! The waitress even knows our names! But I have one big time negative. It is hot in the summer in NYC and Mizu has no A/C! It is unfortunately too hot to sit in in the summertime, and too bad....I will probably not come back until winter. If I want no a/c I can stay in my loft! Great food, great service, great now the bridge and tunnel crowd are gone, but needs too cool off in the summer.

Went here for dinner on my birthday before going out with a small group of friends. Had an amazing time thanks to Joe, the manager. He came around to make sure we were having a good time, and even had a shot of sake with us. The food was great and the prices are very reasonable. I mean, this isn't Bond St. or Nobu, but you're not shelling out $100 - $150 for dinner. The ambience is great, the food is great, great staff and a really cool atmosphere. One thing would be to get there early, or make reservations...this is a very popular place later in the week.

sushi was good; however the friday night i went it was full of bridge and tunnel people; i.e. guidos from brooklyn and queens. Don't go if you want a serene environment to go with your sushi.

Pros: sushi

Cons: customers

.

This is the best place to eat sushi. They are generous wwith the food, and their Shrimp Tempura Roll is incredible!

I strongly reccomend hitting this place up. They've got some of the freshest sushi that's served like artwork by trained pros. Sit at the bar and have Paul hook it up. King Salmon all the way.

If you don't want to wait in line and you want nice atmosphere and really good sushi, this is your place. Although I am a fan of Yama and Monster Sushi, it was nice to actually "dine" at Japanese restaurant for a change, instead of being caught up in chaos. It really is a hidden gem that most don't know about, but I am willing to let in on this Flatiron secret. Two thumbs up!

Pros: No wait, Nice decor, Great Sushi

.

The food is nothing to get excited over but the quantity is considering this is a japanese restaurant in New York City. They serve large portions and the foods quality is satisfactory. Decor is casual but has a little new york city flare to it. The manager is a friendly and a drinker, he comes by every so often to drink with the customers which makes people feel like he's known you for years. I'd visit this place again.

I love to eat at Sushi Samba when I go to the Grammacy Park area, but a couple of weeks ago the line was so long, I went around the corner and tried Mizu Sushi. I am not a Sushi expert, but the food at Mizu tasted as good as many of the more expensive Sushi joints I have been to. The fish was very fresh. But what made Mizu standout, and my girlfriend noticed the same thing was the service. The wait staff was very friendly and gave good service. I have been back several times with both my girl friend and friends and the wait staff has always been top notch. I must say Jamey and Roy were great servers and the manager was very friendly too.

Mizu is similar to Yama but has a little more ambiance and better service. The fish was good but not overwhelming. Very attentive service and very good value for money

Large fresh portions of fish and attentive and friendly staff. Must try the spicy maki combo. Usually seated right away. Great presentation. I keep on coming back.

Went there early with my girlfriend and enjoyed a wonderful dinner. The food was delicious but one thing I didn't like was the fact the waitresses were staring at the patrons, maybe becasue it wasn't too busy.

Not the best in the City, but a very good standby if you are in the neighborhood and don't want to spend a fortune. It won't make you swoon, but neither will you be disappointed. Personally, I love this place because so few have discovered it.

I used to go to the expensive sushi restaurants frequented by Japanese business men, thinking this would guarantee me the freshest, cleanest tasting raw fish. I didn't have much faith in most sushi restaurants in NYC, having had more than a few not-so-great experiences. One day a friend brought me to Misu - and I have not been to another sushi restaurant since. The fish is so fresh and clean - the pieces are just the right size. Am so glad I found this place!

Pros: Great service, Prompt seating, They Deliver

Cons: Not open all days, Green salad so-so, Spider roll so-so

.

Mizu is a perfect New York combination of young, trendy crowd, reasonably priced dishes and a fabulous ambience. And if that's not enough for you, just ask for Joe and he'll show you a great time!
