I have been going to Dr. Merola for 3 years now. I started seeing her with a very difficult dog that I owned for 14 years. She was very patient and kind to us. My dog died last year and Dr. Merola called me just about everyday to see how I was doing and to give me encouragement and assurances that I did the best for my beloved dog. On her suggestion I bought another puppy that has helped to fill the void of the one I lost. Dr. Merola has taken EXCELLENT care of my pup. He was recently diagnosed with severe food allergies and changing his diet has helped him dramatically! I would never think to take my dog to anyone else. And oh by the way, she has not ever dropped either of my animals. She is the BEST!

Where do I start? when we first got our pup we went there because of internet reviews. This "vet" was trained overseas and must have done something to gain a USA license. The place is small and smelled each of the 4 times we went.
- She administers and charges for vaccines that our pup didnt require despite my request for just the minimum required because I didn't want her receiving unnecessary chemicals
- She sometimes works alone with no admin staff because she is all about the money
- It smells there and the boarding facilities are not good
- She insisted on anal squeezing and charged for it and my dog didn't need it and hasn't required it since (and it is bad to do unless necessary)
- she said if she fixed the dog my dog might continue to bleed with her period every month anyway
- I pointed out a black chunk of what I thought was solidified dirt beside my dog's nose and she said it was a wart and to leave it alone until she could operater on it. It stayed there and fell off (it WAS dirt) but now my dog has a white dot on her black nose because it did not receive the melatonin needed as a pup on that spot
- I was a new dog owner and asked what the healthiest chemical-free food was that she recommended. She sais Science Diet. I questioned the huge list of chemicals on the lable and she yelled at me for questioning her and said a whole book was written on what a great dog food it was. I later found out how terrible it was and that Science Diet sponsors Vets and they receive a kickback for promoting their brand.
- I later learned that she DROPPED (or her temporary part-time assistant) my friend's dying dog from the exam table onto the floor. My friend was there to inquire what the best things were to do to make her dog's last days the best and most comfortable. The dog died the day after being dropped.
- I can't remember what another friend said that they experienced there, but I have them going to our Vet right up the road in Lexington - Vet Associates. LVA is much more conservative and only administers the minimum of what is required and explains additional options if you want them.

what a horrible experience. She seems so nice, but I am convinved she is not qualified and is into it for the money. i STILL feel guilty for brining my pup there her first 6 months of life!

This place is not a "hospital" , it is a small clinic. I do not understand why others have given this place a good review (which is why i went here in the first place). I made an appointment but had to wait an hour, and just as I was about to leave the woman took me in. She cut my dog's nails too short and he bled, and then she recommended treatments and pills that were quite expensive. I felt like I was dealing with a sales person. Also, she recommended my dog have surgery for a wart on my dog's lip that fell off on it's own. I would NOT recommend this place for other dog owners. Don't be tricked by the other good reviews like I was.

I've been taking my cat to Dr. Merola for a few years now. She's always taken excellent care of my cat through these years. In '07 my feline grew very ill and was diagnosed with kidney disease. Dr. Merola placed her on a special diet and she seems to be doing much better. Dr. Merola has a very flexible schedule and is always willing to take as much time as needed to explain the root causes of my cat's ailments and how her treatment plans help. She's clearly very experienced and passionate about her work. A great DVM! A++
