Goodbar draws a Lincoln Park college student and young professionals crowd. On the weekends, DJs spin as the crowd fills the back room creating a makeshift dance floor. There is even an elevated dance pole by the back bar. Goodbar is known for their great parties and low drink prices. There are two completely private rooms available for parties and the bar is lined in banquette seating for smaller groups. We are flexible in meeting any of your private party needs and will go to great lengths to satisfy the needs of all of our customer requests. For more information, call Randy at 773-851-4212 or visit our website at www.goodbar.com.

The Scene
Co-eds jockey for position at two downstairs bars. Folks looking for a more chilled-out vibe juggle drinks while trying to head to the back for DJ spins and a more lounge-heavy atmosphere. Colorful murals and totally mod paintings brighten up the space formerly occupied by Deacon Brodies, a popular Wisconsin alumni hangout. An upstairs bar provides additional drinking space for the uninitiated--when it's not rented for private parties, that is (it does brisk business). There's also a large patio up there for starry evenings year-round.

The Draw
Expect upgraded bar fare, especially the roasted vegetable sandwich--although better than a standard sandwich, a bit too garlicky for a night of prowling. The usual suspects start things off--nachos, wings, chicken fingers--but a couple of salads and some interesting sandwiches (Marsala chicken and Margarita chicken) round out the menu.

Key Points

  • Daily Drink Specials
  • Private Parties
  • Resident house DJ's

The Inside Scoop

  1. Save Money - Monday through Thursday nights feature drinks specials (Friday and Saturday nights do not) that have in the past included $2 bottled beer, $3 well drinks or $5 Jaeger bombs--call ahead for details.
  2. When to Go - There's live music Monday and Thursday, and DJs spin hip hop and house Tuesday through Saturday.

Goodbar is a fun place to go on a Wed. night

by Christine T. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,122

I went on a Wednesday night and they had two for the price of one for shots and live music. They even have fundraisers for non profit organizations. Rob was the bartender and he was great.

Great promotions, good prices, friendly service.

by Elisa C. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 849

Love this place! We went on a Friday, when you would normally expect everything to be full-priced, and not only did they have drink specials, but they were doing a one hour open bar promotion. Food is standard pub fare, and portions are generous. The mixed platter is a nice combination of fried pub fare, reasonably priced.

Have some fun with 18 year olds.

by jns597

This was one place I always hated coming to. Everything is overpriced, and it takes quite some time to get a drink. I do remember them having an all-you-can-drink deal (I don't remember it lasting long, but you could get mixed drinks), which earned it the one star I'm giving it. The crowd is usually a bunch of "macho dudes" who are often starting fights inside the bar or out front after being kicked out by overly aggressive and rude bouncers. I also think about 50-60% of everyone in the bar is usually underage (there were always a lot of highschoolers there when I was a sophomore in college), so the younger you are, the better. The DJ is usually pretty good, and the bonus of a stripper pole in the back is always appreciated since drunk gals can't seem to resist the thing, which earns it another star.

Pros: Usually dressed-up, good looking crowd. Music is alright. Stripper pole. Great place to drunkenly meet people of the opposite gender.

Cons: Expensive, crowded, huge "bro" scene, young highschool popularity-contest feeling.

Local place for the local students

by chi_guy

If you want to find the local depaul students on a monday night, goodbar is the spot. Cheap drinks, but no lights. Crowded, which could go either way. Not much room to dance, so go to drink, and yell at the people your with. All in all though, not a bad hangout.

Pros: music, deals

Cons: crowd, line
