Mama Foody comin' live at yah with her point of view. My best friend and I we're looking for a really cool place to dine at, while being casually dressed in sneakers. Mario's is the place where you want to be, so stop looking right now! My tastebuds agreed that the food was toe curling delicious. The ambiance takes one back to a different place in time. The wonderful and gracious staff were very attentive from the time you step foot into the restaurant, until the time you left. And y'all know how I feel about clean bathrooms! Although there is only one, Mario's Trattoria rates ten stars because of the cleanliness, suttle aroma therapy that doesn't aggravate your sinuses and silky hand soap are the bomb! The whole experience was so wonderful that I selfishly hope that not too many people will find out about this spot. Sorry MT!

Pros: Small, Cozy, Great Food

Cons: Too full to enjoy desserts!

We had made a reservation across the street but when we walked by and saw this place we quickly changed our minds about where we wanted to eat. The place looked fabulous and it is fabulous. By the taste of the food, I felt like I was eating at an upscale restaurant but at half the price. The service was very good too. This little place has set the Italian restaurant standard to the max.

They make their pizzas here in a wood oven. I have tried many of the pizzas on their menu and so far so good. They are prepared with a thin crust. My favorite pizza in the city, well, anywhere. The pasta entrees are very good as well. The staff is nice, and the prices are low. I don't think they make their own desserts though but the tiramisu is also very pleasing.

Pros: delicous food, good prices, cute restaurant

Cons: the restaurant only has like 15 tables!

This little restaurant has some great Italian food. The place is lovely and romantic. Whenever I can I come for Happy Hour. They make some great martinis. I must recommend the calamari for appetizer, Sea Bass for entree, and tartufo for desert with grappa. D-lish!!!

Pros: Best prices in town

I love the atmosphere. Sitting right in front of the huge windows looking out is a great view. The pasta is great. I love the eggplant dish and the wine selection is small but carefully chosen.

Far enough from the main drag to make it a good spot before or after a show. The place is small, but wasn't crowded when I went there. Nice decor, and a tiny full bar in the back (a bit too close to the restrooms, but what the heck). Worth a try.

It's great to find such a small and beautiful place in Hell's Kitchen.
I sat down to have a great pizza (Napoletana Style), and was also digging the live jazz that is now playing there are on regular basis!

Will return very soon!

It's great to get a brick over pizza (Napoletana) in this small and special place in Hell's Kitchen. Wish there was more to find like this.

Now there is Live Jazz every Tuesday!
It has become a regular place for my friends and I.

Mario's Trattoria is a great place for good food and a romantic atmosphere. At times you might feel a bit squashed due to its small quarters, but overall I've had 2 very good experiences here. I would recommend it.

Cons: Small and a bit tight. Not good for large groups.

What a find in western midtown! We stumbled upon this adorable little (literally) place and were drawn in by the open doors with the smells of the food wafting outside. For a Saturday night, we got seated fairly quickly with only a 10 minute wait. The place is very cozy, low-lit, with exposed brick walls. The food is excellent and reasonably priced! The classic salad was enough for 3 of us to share and was packed with beautiful fresh veggies. 2 of us had a basil-fresh tomato-mozzarella pizza and the other had the homemade lasagna. All was excellent. Dessert was a chocolate chip cake which was just chocolate-y enough without being overkill. Outstanding and friendly service.

All I can say is that Mario's has become a frequent stop for us. Before a movie, after the theatre, or just because we're catching up, my friends and I find Mario's the perfect spot for any get together. The place is just out-of-the-way enough to escape the whole HK scene, but still sooo easy to get to. It's tiny and wondefully cozy. The menu is full of yummy Italian favorites, all reasonably priced. Mario and his staff are attentive and friendly. And chatting with Mario is always a highlight of our visit (of course, the tiramisu is a close second). I highly recommend checking it out when you're looking for a tasty, but low-key dinner out.

Now, if only he would open for weekend brunch!

All the makings of a "favorite" restaurant were experienced at Mario's. Tucked in a somewhat off the beaten path location (Come on, who really seeks out restaurants behind Port Authority?), Mario's is small, just dark enough to be romantic, and pleasently decorated with subtly sparkly fluer de lis on it's wine and pasta colored walls. I was immediately impressed by the care taken in the service. The servers followed the old school standards of table waiting that are nowadays only practiced at the "finer" restaurants in this city. With most entrees priced at below ten dollars, no one can call Marios a fine restaurant. It sure felt like it, though. Oh, and the food was wonderful, too. We shared an arugula salad which was packed with tasty veggies (Okay, the tomatoes were a little mealy, but it is still winter after all). I had the spinach lasagna, and despite the price ($9, I think), it was huge. I ate the whole thing, though. How could I pass up all that deliciousness? In the end, a salad, two entrees, two beers, and a glass of wine came out to $50. I can't wait 'til I find myself in the neighborhood again, because I know I wont be able to pass up a stop at Mario's.

Mario's Trattoria is truly a gem in this city. I knew I was in for a treat when I snuck in from the cold into this lovely candle-lit restaurant and was warmly welcomed by my waitress Gabby. Seldom do I eat at such a place that has such a feel-good ambience. And I wasn't just a spectator, like the other reviewer mentioned, Gabby truly made me feel like part of the family. I was extremely impressed by the speed of the service. But don't get me wrong, it was in no way rushed. On the contrary, by tasting this food, you can tell that whoever prepared it is truly a master of his craft. I had the veal parmigiana. It tasted amazing... on par with restaurants FAR more expensive. And coupled with the vibe of the restaurant, it made for an unbeatable combo. I would highly reccommend this restaurant, and I will be returning shortly without a doubt.

Cons: I can't think of a single one

Mario's Trattoria is a great little place nestled within the brick buildings of Ninth Avenue. Close to the theatre district and Times Square, its a favorite for show-goers and tourists alike. But don't let it's underpriced menu fool you. They ingredients are some of the freshest I've ever tasted (and I've eaten at more than your fair share of authentic Italian restaurants). The atmosphere too is nothing but magical. At night, candles light up the entire restaurant and the bar shines with a neon blue among the old-world decor.

I've been to Mario's three times now. Kevin and Jared, the two night waiters, seem to never have a night off. The second time I went, they greated me by name. What a welcome!

Anywho, I highly recommend Mario's Trattoria on 9th Ave.

When I entered the restaurant for the first time, my server greeted me with an enthusiasm only afforded to regulars at most restaurants. I instantly felt like part of the family. From here on, nothing was short of spectacular. The service was absolutely impeccable. I'd compare it to the Four Seasons on this front. My server was Kevin. He was prompt, charming, and seemed to always appear at just the right moment. Not to mention, he addressed me by name after only one introduction. The food was spectacular. Cooked to perfection. I had the Penne Vodka, and I was absolutely floored. I rounded out my evening with the best Tiramisu I've ever had. The setting of the restaurant was one of the most welcoming I've encountered in nyc. Countless candles make the place glow as though it's alive. Please, do yourself a favor and bring yourself to Mario's. I promise you will not regret it.
