AVOID AVOID AVOID

by marteeny86

Flat Rate seemed appealing to us because they guaranteed a flat rate with no additional fees. We came to an agreement with Flat Rate for a fee and a pick up and delivery on a Thursday. After they got our credit card information, they called and asked if it could instead be picked up Thursday and delivered Friday. We agreed. Then they asked if they could pick up Fri and deliver Sat. We agreed again. Then they changed the Saturday time - two more times, we agreed to both. They asked AGAIN to change it to the morning, and our building was unable to accommodate that ONE time. Then they asked if they could pick up Saturday and deliver Sunday night. After we told them this is not possible, they told us if we wanted any of the original dates we agreed on we would have to pay extra. They avoided our phone calls, said they would return our calls and never did, and took days to get back to us between each new move in time. They pulled a typical bait and switch. They jerked us around for a week straight, until finally we went with another moving company. Save yourself the headache -- moving is stressful enough, if you are going to pay you might as well go with someone who won't put you through hell.

Pros: Good Rate

Cons: Jerk you around, unreliable

FLAT RATE - WORST MOVING SERVICE

by ka10016

FlatRate is the worst company you could hire, bottom line. Below is the email that I wrote them after my move-in process went completely awry. It has gone absolutely unanswered. Yet, another reason why EVERYONE should steer clear of this company.

"Dear FlatRate,

Unfortunately, I'm writing to you to express my sincere dissatisfaction with the FlatRate moving company. Never in my life have I been more compelled to send a letter of complaint. I scheduled your service for a move on ___ and was assured that the service would arrive within hours between 8am and 10am. At 9am, when a truck and movers had not arrived at my apartment and, more importantly, I had not been communicated with, I called your offices and was told to wait until 10am and surely a truck and the movers would arrive by then. At 10am, the truck and movers did not arrive and I had heard NOTHING. I understand that problems occur and in Manhattan drivers are sometimes faced with traffic or issues that are beyond their control. HOWEVER, at the very least, there should be communication of anything that comes up to customer so they are not left wondering and waiting aimlessly. It was not until I called back SEVERAL times (literally 4 or 5 times) that I was able to speak with someone that could tell me what the problem was, though at that point there was NO solution. I did not receive a WORKABLE solution until 11:15am, when I was told that another team would have to cover my job because the truck that had been allocated to my job had mechanical difficulties. The service was to arrive between 12:30 and 1pm. The service arrived at about 1:10pm. After the movers arrived, they were able to complete my move, BUT not without hurdles. As I had been promised that my move would occur between 8am-10am, both buildings (the one I moved out of and the one I moved into) were unprepared for the move and had to recover the elevators and one of them had even scheduled moves during the afternoon because my move was SUPPOSED to be completed by that time. So, my FlatRate moving service had to share elevators with other services and this caused a significant delays. Overall, my job took 2 hours. Probably 30 minutes of which was wasted as a DIRECT result of the service being LATE. 3-5 HOURS LATE!!!!! With little communication and a complete lack of customer consideration.

I also did not mention that I was supposed to work in the afternoon. Had my move occurred within the allotted time, 8am-10am, the move would have been well over by noon. I was supposed to work at 1pm and had to call out of work as a DIRECT result of this problem. That is an opportunity cost of hundreds of dollars, not to mention my lack of professionalism as I had to explain to my superiors that the service I chose was not adequate.

Your lack of consideration for my move affected me negatively in SEVERAL ways. As I mentioned in the opening of this letter, NEVER have I been more compelled to send a letter of complaint.

For the mistake that the company made, I was offered a mere 10% reduction on my move. That's a mere ~$50 compensation for an entire day of agony. I have never been more dissatisfied with a company or service.

I am well aware that things happen that are beyond a company's control. However, the manner in which this situation was handled was neither professional nor accommodating. As long as I can ever remember, the customer should always come first. In this situation, on more than one occasion, I felt as if my needs came last."

Do yourself a favor and hire another company. FlatRate is the WORST!

Cons: Late, Lack of Communication, Expensive

good experience

I was extremely satisfied with my move using Flat Rate. The crew was on time, worked quickly and was extremely helpful. My relocation consultant, Robin was on top of things and made sure that everything was in order. She was also very patient with whatever changes there may have been. I will definitely think about using Flat Rate again in the future if the need arises...

Worst Move Ever!

by laurelzabel

Don't use Flatrate, which should be called Fatrate / FlatFurniture. They were very nice on the phone and they were on time for the move itself. But unfortunately everything else was a disaster. They broke my bed in their storage facility. They broke my dresser. They broke my bedside table. The bed and table are beyond repair. They packed all of these items themselves. Now they want to pay me $0.60 per lb. They "included" extra insurance for my move into storage and then tried to charge me for it again on the way out. The storage prices were outrageous and the moving fees were a moving target. They even wanted to charge me to throw away the furniture they destroyed.
I have moved cross country 4 times - I have moved 9 times in the last 10 years and I have never had to work with such an incompetent and gouging moving company. I had heard horror stories about movers in NYC, but the last 4 moves here have been no problem. This time I was moving from NY to NJ so I wanted to use a company licensed in both states. Big mistake! Flatrate is the epitome of the bait-and-switch dirty moving company. Everyone you speak to sounds so "decent" and yet your stuff arrives broken and you pay more money than you ever thought possible.

Pros: On time

Cons: Price, insurance scam, storage fees, lack of moving skills

Inexperienced movers and irresponsible management.

by Keka23

Save your time and money and DO NOT use Flatrate. My move was a rather small one (moved from a studio into a 1 bedroom) and STILL they managed to lose 2 boxes and break some of my dinnerware which they packed. I paid for this service since they told me if I pack it the wouldn't be responsible. They were reckless, rude and SLOW!!! My move was supposed to be done by 5pm but they finished close to 7pm for which the building charge me and when I complained to Flatrate they told me that they weren't responsible! Even though I told them about my hours. Its not worth the money OR aggravation! A total disgrace! And also the claim is not going through because the damage is less than $500. I don't know how they got away with this for so long.

Cons: Cost me so much money

No respect for my belongings!

by lisa341

I was recommended to FLATRATE MOVING and I was reluctant to pay top dollars but than in the end I did. They also told me that it would NOT exceed the original cost that they gave me but then to my surprise it did. It is just so frustrating that after all these confirmation emails and also after they did the inventory survey in my apartment and they still charged me about 20% more. It says on the truck FLATRATE??????? My stuff was going to my storage and they threw my stuff the quickest they could WITHOUT ANY protection after I was assured by the a very charming sales guy that it would. I was trying to reach him to help me before it gets any worse and they kept switching me to the dispatchers who apparently couldn't help me. After seeing what my furniture went through they had the audacity to tell me that the gratuity was mandatory. I thought going with the company that has been around for quite some time I would be OK, but I guess not. FLATRATE proved me wrong. The overall experience is a sadly regrettable one and please stay away.

Cons: Unprofessional and Rude

Finally, a moving company that is both affordable & reliable

by shillard

My previous move (not with Flat Rate) was terrible! Not only did they increase their rate once my stuff was all loaded on the truck but they damaged and lost a bunch of my stuff. I filed a claim and was awarded a settlement, but by that time the company was already bankrupt and out of business. Sooo, I was very skeptical of moving companies but went with Flat Rate based on a friend's recommendation. I dealt with Craig Yettra who was EXTREMELY helpful. He was friendly and professional and answered all my paranoid questions with remarkable patience and understanding. He assured me that my rate would indeed be flat, and it was! The crew who did the packing and moving (Sam and Sophian, I think) were also amazing- very fast, friendly, and careful. I could not have been more pleased with this move and will use Craig and Flat Rate for every move I have going forward!

Pros: Excellent customer service (thanks to Craig)

Cons: NONE, honestly!

Moving done right ! ( I have done it too many times )

by CityMouse

Spoke with representative Robin several times and readjusted quotes as needs, items and dates changed. Painless process. Great customer service and communication. Movers came on time, got right down to business, moved 1 bedroom apartment ( boxed up already by me except a few pieces of furniture ) from Brooklyn to Paterson NJ, had to take Manhattan Streets to GW bridge because of Triboro bridge closure. They where still done by 12:00 noon. Items arrived safe and unharmed. Movers took care of my mediocre belongings as of they where antiques. NIcely done flat rate team.

Pros: Quick and efficient crew

Cons: quote process a little tricky/same as all movers though

Amazing ! Patient and AWESOME !

by gamblej21

During the move I had to e-mail a number of times to change my order, Dean Hadzi was one the best customer service rep's I have dealt with. They turned up early and helped me move a number of things ready for the move. They wrapped everything with care, no damages, and SO FAST. From UWS - Hoboken it took them 2.5 hours to move a full 1 bed apartment to a house. They also took storage items. The team who turned up were the sweetest bunch of guys and it made the move actually fun !!!

Pros: Quick, Patient, competitive rates, awesome staff

Highly recommended

by jeremypopscene

I recently moved between apartments in NYC, from a walk-up building to one with an elevator, which necessitated hiring a moving company that was properly accredited and insured. After getting a few quotes around town, I decided on Flat Rate. I feel like I definitely made the right decision. Robin, the customer service person who helped me set up the move, was most helpful (although the putting on hold for a quote, as mentioned by some others, is a bit tiring). The true stars of the move were the crew: Johnathan, Darwin, and Carlos (I name them because I think you can request a specific crew). I was unable to be there on the day of the move and it was left to my wife to hold down the fort. Not only were the crew professional and responsible, but there were no shifty attempts to rustle more cash, as some movers are wont to do. The load out at our old apartment took longer than was expected and left us with only one hour of elevator time at the new place. However, the crew worked at lightning speed to get all of our boxes into our apartment in that hour, with nary a scratch to be found on any of our belongings. Moving is one of my very least favorite things on the planet, but Flat Rate and the people I dealt with in particular made it much less stressful. I wholeheartedly recommend them.

Pros: Professional, personable, reliable, timely

I moved twice in New York and the first time I was quoted for $600 and it ended up being $1400 at the end of the day. The second time I used Flat Rate Moving and the quote they gave me over the phone was the exact amount I paid the day of moving, which was a relief.

A True Diamond in the Rough

by Mister4000

I move a lot, and I have had awful experiences with both local and nationally recognized companies, who often charge thousands of dollars in frivolous surcharges and make threats when you don't pay them in cash on the spot. It's a dirty business, full of crooks. That's when I reached out to FlatRate movers.

I have used FlatRate to move from Los Angeles to New Jersey, and then again to move from New Jersey to New York City, and now again to move from New York City back to New Jersey. Every single time, they have been stellar in every respect. Their crew is always very professional, extremely courteous, quick, and careful when packing and moving items. Their prices are competitive, and in the end, you will pay less because they don't squeeze you for lots of extras like all the other moving companies. Also they don't break things in their rush to complete the job like other movers, which also saves you money. Plus they take credit cards, unlike those sketchy movers who require cash only.

I have recommended FlatRate to all my friends and family members who likewise have had excellent experiences. FlatRate never charges sneaky surcharges for that lamp you forgot to mention or for a couple extra steps at the entryway or having to park the truck an extra ten feet away. AVOID SELECTING MOVERS BASED ON PRICE ALONE! In my experience, I ended up paying bogus surcharges in the end with other companies.

Pros: Guaranteed Pricing, Very Professional, Courteous

Cons: None

Awful

by kw1973

This was the single worst moving experience of my 18 years in the city. Yes they were on time. However the packing job done at the pick up by the foreman left a $500.00 chair worthless. The problem - he packed it unwrapped in a box with a wrought iron table completely damaging the finish on the wood chair. At first he denied it -said it was like that when he picked up. Then he said "it would come off with water." Then he admitted he packed it poorly. Problem - insurance deductible is $500 so if you opt for insurance and a screw up like this happens, youre liable regardless. So the overall charge was an additional $500 to us, not the "Flat Rate" promoted by the company. They attempted to pay us off with a $100 courtesy check. We cashed it and will talk trash about them as often as possible. Simply sloppy, discourteous employees with no sense of customer service whatsoever

Pros: none

Cons: sloppy

I recommend Flat Rate Movers to anyone in the area that is moving!

BEST MOVERS in NYC

by SamC

In my search for a mover, I contacted various companies in Manhattan. After days of research, I narrowed my search down to two companies both who sent representatives to my apartment for a survey. It was extremely important to me that I get a true ?flat rate? company because I have had experiences where I?m quoted one price and then on the day of the move, I?m charged more. Flat Rate Moving outbid the second company and promised me my fee was a true ?flat rate.?
My representative, Craig, was not only professional, he went above and beyond to insure my move was as stress free as possible. The crew arrived at my apartment promptly on moving day and handled every piece of furniture with extreme care. The team was fast, efficient and detail oriented. They went above and beyond to ensure I was happy and even packed some additional wardrobe boxes for free.
It was a pleasure working with everyone at Flat Rate Moving and I highly recommend them. The actual moving process was the least stressful aspect of moving, thanks to Flat Rate.

Pros: Reliable, Curtious, Detail Oriented

believe the hype!

by hautesecs

Jeez, what's the big deal with a little negotiating, this is new york baby. Seems bizarre that people write reviews that didn't even use the company, so what if you have to do a little haggling, move back to the mid west already. A really cool british guy came to my house (seemed a little over dressed for mover!) and was the least pushy moving guy i ever met, explained the process clearly without over selling and was very very efficient. I wanted a better price, he gave me one. The move went very well with no hiccups at all. The customer service people called me to ask if things were going well. I don't understand the bad reviews here, these guys have become probably the largest in the city, you have to do something right to make that happen. I've lived here for 12 years and moved 6 or 7 times, and lets face it, moving is hardly fun, but flatrate made it creamy and smooth, so much better than all my previous bait and switch experiences.

Pros: hassle free

best movers around

by laurencrabbe

After getting price quotes from various moving companies, FlatRate was able to work with me to reach a rate that I thought was very fair. Max was a competent and helpful contact and advised me on the logistics of making a smooth move well beyond his duties as a moving company agent. He went out of his way to give me packing advice (get free boxes from the local liquor store; pack dishes vertically for the best protection), worked with his supervisor to get me a competitive rate (while still fighting to get me free wardrobe boxes to protect my beloved clothes), and advised me on weather conditions for my moving day to boot. I would recommend FlatRate to anyone who needs to make a move and Max in particular as the best ally in the moving business.

AWFUL. Broke items, rude.

by dbstyles

Not a Good Service.
We have used them several times in the past after they changed owners.
The salesman came and did an on site estimate and sold us on their "Elite" moving service. They sell this as their premier service with the "best movers". He sold us on the idea that they would take care of our items - some expensive furniture, electronics, etc - don't worry we will take care of it all."

Then the day of the move....
They showed up late by almost an hour. I was slightly annoyed by this as they did not call and I had to hunt them down on the phone to see where they were. Two of the three "Elite" movers actually worked while the other dragged along. They took over twice as long as we were told it would take to just pack the truck. They did a half assed job packing the furniture and one guy kept moving things that would take two people by himself - sliding items down the stairs. I finally had to start making extra trips for them to get some of the furniture loaded. Good thing I did because as I was getting the last of it, I found a closet they didn't bother to try to pack and a few things in the apartment that they said they didn't have room in the truck for- why bother to tell me? (The last thing I saw as I drove away was two of them cramming the last of my things in to the top of the truck as hard as they could) We called Flat Rate on the way to the new apartment and told them we were now very late because of the moves - so they sent more "Elite" movers,. The extra hands that showed spent more time joking around with the other movers than working. They took forever unwrapping the furniture. They set the bed frame up like a house of cards with no bolts and not on the area rug that they had packed - why? Would I not notice this. Shocker, three pieces of furniture were badly damaged beyond repair. They were several other issues but now that I just relived it here my stress level is too high to mull over further details. I ended up submitting this review because the claim letter for all the issues I brought up to them basically told me to go screw off. They feel that the estimate of loss and damage to the items plus the inconvenience is worth $480 - just $20 shy of the deductible (They do the adjustment themselves - total conflict of interest).

Flat Rate used to be a decent service but is now HORRIBLE.

Pros: Sales team gives you the ABC approach - actually that scks

Cons: Broke items, rude, shady, unprofessional

Great Service Start to Finish

by TSteyn

I have been a FlatRate customer for some time now.
Everyone was on time, from the sales manager to quote to the movers. They showed flexibility as I was uncertain of which day the moved would take place. I got calls from the office following up on a regular basis to firm up a move date. They issued the necessary insurance certificates and filed them with both the move-out and move-in buildings and they delivered packing materials prior to move day.
I opted for the service where they pack up the kitchen. I just wish they had used less paper.
I moved out of an elevator building into a 4th floor walk up and not once did I hear the moving staff complain about the stairs. The move supervisor discussed the entire move plan with me before we began and went about disassembling and assembling furniture - he was an absolute pro and he kept his crew moving.
A dispatch supervisor stopped by on the day to check to on things and to make sure all was going to plan.
The only negative is that a couple of my big pieces got some minor dings and scratches, but I can't imagine anyone else carrying that stuff up 4 flights without it happening.
These guys have treated me well over the years and true to their word, honour their quotes.
Moving is such an emotional drain and FlatRate made the transition smoother.
Thank you FlatRate!

Pros: Kept appointments, Issues Insurance Certificates, On Time

Cons: Handling of some furniture

A costly and disappointing experience

by loveitsunny

If you really care about your furniture, don't use Flatrate! We recently moved from NYC to San Diego and had to deal with extensive damage, negligence which resulted in loss of two moving boxes (here goes your favorite cloth!), and misleading information which caused the insurance company not to pay for part of the damage. Flatrate refused to offer a partial refund for all the trouble and loss (and there was plenty) and was not willing to accept responsibility. And although we liked the all-in-one price, we didn't like the dirty, disgusting, fluid stained blankets in which they wrapped parts of our furniture. Overall, a most disappointing experience that resulted in substantial monetary loss despite extra insurance. Flatrate is not even worth a single star!

Pros: all-in offer

Cons: below average service

Storage Move in NYC

by AllisonB55

This was hands-down the smoothest move experience we've ever had- and my husband and I have both moved extensively in the US and internationally. We were especially impressed with the professionalism of the movers themselves; they were thorough and efficient as well as courteous. We'd like to note that German (the foreman) was particularly helpful and patient, and we were extremely pleased with how he ran the move from start to finish. We even made a packing error and had to visit our new "home" in storage at the company NJ storage facility and all the staff there was very accommodating to our last-minute requests. We feel very confident that whatever the corner of the globe we need to have our items shipped to in the future, FlatRate will deliver. Thanks again.

Terrible Experience with Flatrate

by NYFL

Flatrate Moving was fine for our local move but beyond HORRIBLE for our long distance NY-FL move.
The NY-FL move involved a lot of furniture ? Flatrate packed it up themselves per their own requirements. We packed the smaller items. Much of the furniture that Flatrate packed was DESTROYED (the delicate china that we packed ourselves was fine): solid marble table chipped, mahogany captain?s chairs completely broken, antique tables crushed beyond repair (they were stuffed into the truck underneath heavier items so of course they were crushed), cherry bedroom headboard soggy from a leaky truck or storage facility, sewing machine damaged ? I could go on and on. It was a nightmare. They brought the items in 2 shipments (not what we contracted for ? it should have all arrived at once), they did not re-assemble my furniture as promised, and the movers were unapologetic (?You?re not gonna like this? as they unloaded broken piece after broken piece of furniture?). In the interest of fairness I will say that our local moves went fine. But due to the awful experience with our long distance move I would never, EVER, use this moving company again ? because the friendly voice on the phone when you book your move is the total opposite of the terrible service you?ll ultimately receive. (And, no, I have never written a review of any company before- but this was just so bad that people should know. )

My move experience.

by CourtneyLD

This was the first time I had used a moving company - and it was worth every cent to avoid the hassle of moving yourself. The movers were very professional (sir, ma'am), handled our items with care, and moved everything out of our old apartment and into the new apartment very swiftly. We had the energy to start unpacking our items on the first night since we weren't zapped from moving our own belongings.
Overall, a really great experience.

Not even a customer and STILL incredibly disappointed

by mookdalook

Flatrate TOTALLY hounded me on the phone to try to keep me as a customer! After repeatedly asking for a quote over the phone because my move is not a big deal AT ALL (I'm moving down three flights of stairs to another apartment in my building and all they have to do is move 5 things), they kept denying me the ability to get a phone quote and persisted on forcing an in-person appointment on me. So I gave in and set one up because I figured I could cancel no problem... F*** me, was I wrong.

After getting an extremely cheap quote from another company, I called to cancel with Flatrate- The woman on the phone tried to convince me to keep my appointment, then transferred me to the sales manager who told me that he's trying "to protect me" from other moving companies (wtf? Okay, thanks DAD). So I told him I got a quote for less than $300 from another company, and he then transfers me to another dude who won't let me cancel and decides to give me a phone quote for $305 (after putting me on hold, of course)- AS IF I wouldn't remember the competitive quote I just told to the sales manager. NOT TO MENTION, the entire time the sales rep was on the phone, he was bashing other moving companies and trying to basically scare me into working with him. After I said I really wasn't interested AT ALL and would just like to cancel, the sales rep proceeded to ask me why i chose the other company, the name of the other company, how much was the actual quote for, if it's only $25 less why not go with a more reputable company like flatrate, make sure they didn't charge you taxes because they can't charge tax on moving, etc. etc. JESUS H. CHRIST if I had known they did that to their customers over the phone, I wouldn't have even dialed their number in the first place.

Horrible service - will not pay out for insurance claims

by jonjonjon3

If you use them - don't bother getting insurance.
They trashed my furniture and refuse to pay out.

It's a shame - because I used to like and recommend them.

Now I will never use them again.

I'm surprised they haven't been indicted on insurance fraud yet. Absolutely amazing.

Pros: on time.

Cons: Will not pay out on insurance claims

Do not recommend

by branding

They came late, got lost for a very long time (no GPS!) and broke one of the most valuable pieces. Then they sent an "insurance adjuster" who decided that (what a shock) the loss was about $2 below the copay on the insurance they provide and they owed my nothing. To be "nice" they paid $100 and to cash the check I had to agree this was a complete settlement. Of course the effort to pursue them was not worthwhile.
The movers did not understand English so every time they got lost and called we could not communicate. The only positive is that the movers were polite. Do NOT recommend.

Pros: movers were polite

Cons: everything important

Resting on laurels

by bapuya

Flat rate came highly recommended from several friends, so we thought we were going to go with them without spending time shopping around. We called and scheduled a meeting, very friendly. We stayed home an entire afternoon on purpose and the guy never showed up. We called several times and he never returned the calls. They called us next day and sent somebody else. We thought we were quoted a high price so we inquired with another dozen company; Flat Rate ended up to be the highest. We called again and they said the price was not negotiable, not very friendly this time around. They were not flexible on the schedule either. I reduced the things to be moved, sent another email and never got a reply. I gave up. I thank them now though, cause I ended up going with somebody else who provided a super service on a holiday at 40% less ! My one star is the average between the 5 star rating they have and the minus 4 I would personally give. So long.

Pros: Didn't have the chance to find any

Excellent Moving Company

by soonyc

I would recommend this moving company to my friends and family members. I used them 2x recently. The first time was for my move (local) and the experience I had with them was so great (Robert and his team arrived on time, worked quickly and were courteous) I used them again to help some relatives with their move. The relocation consultant I worked with Sergey was absolutely fantastic. He tried to accommodate all the little details of my move which included trying to coordinate time schedules between buildings (elevator reservation time frames, etc) He worked very hard to make everything work out for us and I was so appreciative. I would not hesitate to recommend this company!

Pros: Sergey- very helpful , Robert's team of movers-excellent

Flat Rate is simply the best moving company in New York.

by ANTONIODEJON

My movers were simply the best. Moving can be very stressfull and on a day when the weather was'nt so friendly , things could even get worse. But the crew took all that stress away, they handle everything with great care, the movers was very freindly, proffessional and payed great attention to detail. Upon arrival at the destination, my elevator was not working, the movers were then faced with teh task of going up two flighs which they werent prepared for. Even with such a task, its seems like "no problem" to these guys.

Not only was the service fabulous, but flat rate offered a good rate compared to it's competitors. Flat rate, well done and I will definately recommend.

Worth EVERY PENNY

by ShannonT55

My move date changed several times, and the salesperson I worked with, was always very helpful and accommodating. On the day of the move, the team arrived early and worked HARD, all day long. I was unsure of the cost at first (it had been several years since my last move. Once I saw the reality of the move effort, I realized it was worth EVERY PENNY. Totally happy with FlatRate's services, A+!

Amazing Moving Experience!

by turn2miss

Flat Rate Moving is great. I was anxious when they arrived, but they started working quickly and were incredibly personable. The price I paid was less than what a friend paid a "man with a van" from Craigslist, and my move was fully insured. The movers I had were Marino, Victor and Juan and I would highly recommend them. They're also super hot. =)

Pros: Efficient, Professional, Great Value

Cons: None

Positive and Professional Staff

by AS1978

I was sorry to see that Flat Rate got bad reviews from some. My experience was nothing but positive from the very beginning. I had to change my move date three times because of a glitch with the schedule of the building, but the Flat Rate staff was helpful and patient with me. The employees were very kind and professional over the phone, and the movers were incredible. They moved me from Astoria to Manhattan in under three hours. I would definately use them again and recommend them to others.

Pros: Great staff; quick service

Cons: Cost

DON'T RISK IT.

by SamD101

We did a NYC - SF move in July; based on a friends recommendation we went with Flat Rate. A few other movers had better prices but the staff was professional and they seemed to have their act together.

We didn't have too much (no furniture), but had some valuables (art, electronics, antique carpet) so, just to be safe, we paid more to get extra insurance on the move. Movers were clean and efficient on both ends.

However once everything was unpacked we found many items that were damaged that could have been avoided. The paintings were in a "secure crate" but were not wrapped when they were put in so two frames were chipped. Office chair had a busted wheel. Torn lamp shade. Cracked bookshelf. Irritated but nothing that couldn't be repaired. Until we saw the carpet - two 3" tears. This was an antique that had been in the family for decades.

4 months later we finally get the assessment from Flat Rate. Denied on the carpet. Denied on many of the others. Approved for 475$ in damages. Conveniently enough the deductible for the insurance - 500$.

If you don't care how your possessions get to you, feel free to go with Flat Rate. Otherwise find a better option

Pros: Proffessional, efficient

Cons: Poor packing; will not pay on damage claims

Hassle Free Move

by riven22

Professional, hassle free, responsive to my constantly changing needs , I worked with 2 crews, spoke to numerous office staff, everyone was friendly and got the job done.
The salesperson was very helpful and offered great communication. The movers were a great bunch of guys... highly attentive, highly courteous, very careful, and accommodating. They worked very efficiently and it all went faster than I thought it would.

NYC Great Moving Company!

by MarieGnyc69

Overall the move was excellent, the foreman and his team did a great job of getting things done efficiently and without any issues and they stayed to help put a bed together which was extremely helpful. My one small criticism is that they were almost an hour late arriving due to a security stop, but other than that, the move went off without incident. The price was definitely reasonable and paying went smoothly.
I would highly recommend FlatRate for future moving needs.
