Once again: Overpriced. For the money you're spending, you would think that the customer service would be exceptional, but it isn't. No special orders, it seems, can be made (or maybe they just don??t want to be bothered?) and all recommendations have been surprisingly bad--sometimes the wine isn't even ready for drinking! (Yes, I did tell the salesman that I was going to drink the bottle that week; I wasn??t stocking my cellar?) While Garnet (a few blocks away) is far from perfect, you??re getting MUCH better prices and a (somewhat) engaged staff. Millesima is to be avoided.
Pros: Good selection of Italian wines
Cons: Very expensive; terrible customer service
I love wine and I love this store.
Because of its classy upscale look, it was intimidating at first to enter the store. Despite the atmosphere of the store and sommeliers' expertise, they are very down to earth. I think the person below felt that they were cold because they don't aim to please you.
If you communicate with them what you are looking for and your budget they can find you the perfect wine for every occassion. I have bought $20 wine to take to friend's dinner $40 wine to take to dinner party, $15-20 wine to treat to myself, $10 wine to give it to someone out of courtecy, and $10 wine to make a really good sangria. you just can't go wrong. You could even go by "how you feel." Drink to take to bed, drink for romantic occasion, etc.
I never used to drink red wine, only white. but thanks to them, I've become more familiar with different kinds of wine and come to love them even more.
Pros: everything about it
I just recently moved to the Upper East side, and this store and a few others were recommended to me. While the store has an excellent selection, and a unique layout, I found the staff very cold. I was made to feel bad about wanting a wine, that I guess, wasn't up to the standard of something they would sell, and felt pressured to choose something that they liked.I needed a good bottle to make Sangria, but didn't want to spend a lot. I wont be returning.
