We had a very unfortunate experience at this local eatery. It came highly recommended from the folks at the Sheraton Civic Center who said they had only heard glowing reviews of this establishment. The atmosphere is cute and the neighborhood is as well, but after we sat down at our table, everything went downhill. The restaurant was not very busy and it took 17 minutes to get our drinks (we only know the exact time b/c we had called someone and checked the time on our phone log) which consisted of coffee, water and one chocolate milk. While other servers were standing around we waited and waited. We told the manager as he wisked by that "we would like to order please" to which he responded, "someone will be right with you" and continued on his way. After ordering 13 minutes later we waited and waited for the food. After checking the phone log again 48 minutes later, we again encountered the manager. "Excuse me, we were wondering if you could check on our food, we've been waiting almost an hour" we said politely as we were excited to head to the arch. "It hasn't been an hour and it's on the way, I know when you came in" he said as he ducked behind the corner into the kitchen. We were quite taken aback by his lack of concern, sarcastically poor attitude and unwillingness to slow down and address our concern. It's unfortunate b/c the food was pretty good. I spoke with a lady in the restroom who had a similar encounter and another couple at a neighboring table was also dissappointed with the unfriendly manager. The only saving grace to this experience was that we left with full tummies and still made it to the next destination on time. Still no apology upon leaving from the manager who took a different route to the kitchen after our encounter with him. So, if you've got time to spare and someone to talk to, eat here, if not, try somewhere else. J. Bucks was tasty, as was Joseph's...and the staff was amazing!

This place should really have more business than it seems to get. One of my favorite places sto go. I love love love the ice cream sundae's and REAL cherry cokes. The staff is always friendly. Sometimes they are slow, but I have no complaints because I'm usually not in a hurry when I go. Good salads, good meatload, and good food all around. I mainly go for the ice cream though.

We have become big fans of this Lafayette Square eatery. It might be the long list of tempting ice-cream and shake offers (both husband and daughter are die-hard ice cream afficionados) or it could be the really delicious brunchie-style offerings. Whatever the case, we make the short trip a few blocks from our Fox Park home at least once a month if not more. While the service can sometimes be slow or seemed overwhelmed, it is offset by the really consistently good food and the overall fun of finding somewhere clean, hip, and comfortable to take the fam in the city. The bathrooms are knockout.

If I had anything to warn against it's the burgers. We've enjoyed them in visits past, but the last time we went the girl (age 6) decided on the kiddie cheeseburger. It took us several scoldings to "just eat it" to finally try a bite- imagine our parental guilt at finding it dry, hard and unpalatable. Upon questioning, the maitre 'd admitted they cook all burgers to medium well- a bit of a setback to this medium rare lovin' family. So you may want to steer clear, as even upon request they (apparently) won't cook burgers to order.

That being said, if you want a great place for a late morning breakfast, to sit and enjoy the paper, the fountain, and some good ol' city people watching, you really can't go wrong with SFS. The food, desserts/shakes/malts (and hubby is VERY particular about the malt-vs-shake thing) are simply quite wonderful. The decor is really fun. And did I mention the bathrooms? Nice.

Now, I really hope they read this and put Eggs Benedict on the menu. Mmmmm..... English Muffin, fried egg, ham, hollandaise...... Sunday mornings writ large!
