1 Stars: yuck (by chelsea i.)

they seared our sashimi

jalapenos do not, i repeat do not belong on sushi.

in the car on the way home we had to stop and get some tums,
my friend, kept saying "they seared the sashimi".

it was like we stopped off in the middle of kansas, at the only sushi resturant in 500 mile radius.
or it could have been idaho.

how could a sushi a resturant that close to little tokyo, be that awful. since moving from echo park to mt washington, i had high hopes for this little resturant. and mind you, theres no good resturants in echo park either, so it's not like my standards were too high.

really the worst dinner out i've had in years.
listen people......
you can not fuse mexican food with japanese food.
it's downright wrong
thet are both great on their own, butnever shall the two meet.

good luck mia.

PROS: theres a patio, it's clean our waitress was cute.
CONS: the worst sushi ever

5 Stars: wow (by Anthony S.)

Who would have thought this place would be so good. Its the only place of its kind within 15 miles, and the sushi is great. Its interesting that they have great varieties. Some new things i havent seen before with chic names pertaining to eagle rock and mt.washington.. such as the mt.washington roll.. SO GOOD! They are usually busy, kind of odd for being in such a weird location, but that just goes to show how good the food is. Parking is limited in front of the restaurant so you have to park on either of the side streets or valet the car. Great vibe and the place looks top notch. Make reservations though! Its not super pricey either, its about mid range as far as that goes, ive paid much more for less quality at other places.

PROS: Great food, friendly good looking staff, great ambience, not super pricey
CONS: parking

4 Stars: Hidden Gem (by Jen B.)

Who would have thought that Eagle Rock would have good sushi? This place just opened about 2 weeks ago. They are only open for dinner. A majority of their seating is on the patio with some indoor seating at tables and sushi bar. The sushi presentation was among the best I have seen in the greater Pasadena area. Everything we tried was great! Dinner reservations highly recommended.

It truly is a hidden gem that you might miss due to the location. (hint: If you hit York Blvd. you have gone to far.) Parking is limited and on the streets, but they did add Valet as of last weekend.

PROS:
CONS: Parking

5 Stars: Highly Recommend (by J. B.)

Wonderful restaurant. Located about a mile south of Colorado on Eagle Rock Blvd. Great feel and dcor. I have only had sushi and strongly recommend it (two visits and counting). There are a number of very creative dishes on the menu, which look like house creations. The ingredients are plainly listed on the menu. I have heard extremely positive comments on these dishes.

Seating is limited and since Mia opened there have been crowds. Based on the quality of food, I expect the crowds to stay so make reservations. FYI on Tuesday (3/22/06) Mia was written up in the LA Times which will bring even more crowds.

Parking is like everything in Eagle Rock very limited, but Mia does offer valet.

PROS: Sushi, Valet
CONS:

1 Stars: Very Disappointed, Poor Service (by G G.)

1) The server brought our table the wrong beverage order three times (3 Times!).
2) The server did not check-in to find out if we needed anything. We constantly had to make requests to other attendants.
3) The server failed to place an order for a dessert we specified at the beginning of the order.
4) Our check and credit card sat on the table for 10 minutes while servers walked back and forth without bothering to pick up the payment. Again, we had to flag down another attendant.
5) Fewer and smaller sushi roll pieces served, which although good, do not justify the cost.

And, NO the restaurant was not crowded at the time. There were only 4 tables with patrons. Will not return. The food was above average BUT not worth the price.

PROS: Above average food (not worth the price)
CONS: Poor Service, Disorganized

1 Stars: Bad Service, bad sushi (by Aaron S.)

This restaurant was one of the worst experiences I've had in Eagle Rock. The fish was terrible and the service was worse. There is obnoxious, way too loud music playing (Rudy, this is a restaurant, not a dance club) that is hard to speak over. Beyond that, there are pushy, rude valets trying to force you to valet your car despite the fact there is ample street parking just a few feet away.

PROS: Patio is nice
CONS: Bad fish, bad service, rude valet parking

1 Stars: Mia Makes You Sick! (by John L.)

My wife and I ate at Mia Sushi and had a terrible experience. The food only so-so and service totally sucked. But worse than that was that we both got really sick after eating there. Really REALLY sick.
Even before getting sick we decided we never wanted to go back. We still love sushi, but don't ever want to see Mia again.

PROS: None
CONS: Sushi makes you vomit

4 Stars: Former Little Tokyo chefs prepare California Cuisine spin on sushi classics (by Charles M.)

California cuisine style sushi classics are prepared by Japanese chefs and attractive hosts welcome you and attend service.

The conversations and vibe represent the neighborhood it resides in -- a mix of Occidental students, local artists, and downtown political wonks discussing issues of the day.

For those seeking a traditional formal sushi experience, this is not your temple.

The sushi is fresh, but can take time to prepare when crowded. People do not come here to rush, but visit awhile and unwind.

The staff is friendly and warm, if a bit hurried at times.

Most seek out patio seating, as its a nice highlight at night under the heat lamps. It has the ambiance of a relaxed, landscaped outdoor room and is more flexible for larger groups than inside, where table configurations are limited it can be a loud for some when crowded.

Later hours than other local restaurants can drive unexpected crowds here after 9PM.

Valet parking is a must (for "don't walk in L.A." types) Those with an independent streak should plan on spending 5-10 minutes looking for a street parking, and another 5 walking from the car.

Overall a neighborhood sushi bar/restaurant worth visiting and sharing with friends when the sushi mood strikes.

1 Stars: Worst Experience Ever (by S. P.)

What an awful place! The sushi is bland and probably not fresh (we sent our salmon back it looked so bad) and the tempura was greasy and tough. The service was piss-poor and everything was WAY overpriced for the quality and portion. The music is obnoxious and too loud and you can't even have a conversation. Besides that, the valets tried to force us to park with them. I wish we had left before we even went in.

PROS: Leaving
CONS: The food, the service, the parking, the neigborhood
