I recently finished a tattoo from Jeff at Red Letter 1, the professionalism I experienced was very welcoming. This was my first tattoo and going into it I was nervous about having a large piece done on my ribs. I felt very welcomed when walking into the space. Red Letter 1 is located in an old home in Hyde Park and each tattoo artist has their own room to ensure privacy and comfort. My tattoo took two sessions to complete and I could not be more happy with the outcome. If you are looking for a beautiful piece of art on your body and not just a same old tattoo I would definitely recommend Jeff at Red Letter 1.

Great shop. Got a half sleeve from Jeff and the customer service, experience, and quality was all top notch. I couldn't be happier with my tattoo. I got a japanese half sleeve which Jeff is awesome at along with many styles. You definitely get what you pay for and it's a shop that's a step above the rest. I drove up to Tampa from Ft. Lauderdale because I wanted someone who was great at what they do. A tattoo is forever and if you're not ready to do what it takes to get a great one I suggest waiting until you are. The shop is awesome too in the renovated home with wood floors and individual rooms for each artist. By far the best shop in Florida!

april b,
april,
i saw your review on me online. sorry to read it.
i wanted to let you know that my only option at times, due to being a father of four and overly busy at work is too do drawing the night before my appointments...sometime i cannot run the schedule i try to. i work 60-70 each and have done so for 15 yrs. i try as hard as i can. when you had your initial consult i told you that your image was hyper complex and i would try to do my best. once i sat done to draw it i realized i could not accomplish the image in a fashion that would last. as far as your husbands image i was not trying to sway him in any direction as much as i was trying to visualize a good piece for him. when he changed his mind into getting dog tags from a compass everything changed. dog tags never look good tattooed in my opinion. you expect me to stamp my name on two tattoos that i do not think look good? at the end of the day what you are saying is that you would have been happier if i would have taken your money and given you a bad tattoo, that you get to wear forever, all in the name of scheduling? even if i had contacted you early you still would have needed to drive out to get your deposit.
from my angle, i hope you can understand that i was trying to help you out. it did not help me by being at work all day and not making any money. do you know anyone that wants to go to work unpaid? i do not but i thought that was the best course of action so you and your husband didnt end up w bad tattoos.

thanks for the crappy review.

My husband and I found Phil at RedLetter1 by researching for months to do our tattoo's. We where looking for the best of the best but knew that every tattoo artist has their own style. After contacting Phil, we decided to go see the studio. Phil was busy tattooing someone but we quickly talked to him about setting up appointments. He told us to leave our phone numbers and he would call us that next day. He never called us that next day. Two days later we decided to call Phil back. He wasn't there. We left our number again. No one called us and a week went by. Week 3 after visiting RedLetter1 we decided to call back again. Finally we spoke to Phil. We made a consultation date which was a month from when we called. A month later we did our consultation. When we met with him he didn't seem to into what our idea's where. I showed him exactly what I wanted black and white, simple yet organic. He said that it looked like it would be difficult to do but he could do it. He swayed my husband into doing something else. We walked out of the studio kind of surprised by Phil's demeanor. We thought since it was a custom tattoo shop, and one that was highly rated, that this was the place to go for custom tattoo's that where a little challenging (other than roses, skulls and cross bones). And after viewing their portfolio's - we knew that they had the talent to do what we wanted (if not more so). We just didn't get a good feeling from the consultation but we figured that he was rushing because he was busy. He told us that he calls all of his clients a week before their appointment to talk about the sketches that he will do and tell us if there are any problems that may come up about the design. 3 months later...and a week before our scheduled tattoo date, no phone call. He never called us a week before like he said he would. 3 days before the scheduled tattoo's - we decided since he hasn't called, that maybe we should call him. Finally we get a hold of Phil. He said he was working on our sketches. He told my husband that he did get his email (the first one we sent with the old design my husband sent him). My husband asked if he got the 2nd email with the new design that he was swayed into after the consultation. He said no. He hasn't checked his email yet. Phil never said anything about not being able to do our tattoo's when we talked to him 3 days before our scheduled date. Today was our appointment and I am writing this review soon after arriving home - I am extremely upset and had to write this as soon as possible to warn others before they decide to go to RedLetter1 Tattoo. Today we arrive at RedLetter1 for our scheduled tattoo day. He told us before that he booked the entire day just for me and my husband. We walk in and he is smiling at his desk with my $100 deposit and original print outs I gave to him in front of him. He told us right away that he had bad news for us. He said he can't do my tattoo. He said it was too hard. He said he even asked his fellow artists and they said, "No Way!" He said its just too complicated. I was shocked. I asked him why he didn't say that in the beginning - let alone before we drove all the way into Ybor today to get our tattoo's done? He apologized and said he wanted to tell me face to face. Honestly...I think that was a huge mistake on his part. Not only did he waste 3 months of my time, $100 deposit (that we could have had for Christmas), but also three trips (toll money getting there) to Ybor. He told my husband he couldn't do part of his tattoo which happen to be dog tags...because its not something that he does. Its too lifelike. We got our $100 deposit back...but let me tell you - we where so upset when we walked out of that place. Even though its a blessing in disguise (who would want someone doing a tattoo on you who isn't comfortable doing it because they can't or don't want to?). But the main thing we are upset about is the time that was wasted. 3 months we planned and got excited about our tattoo's - and he couldn't tell us all of this during our consultation months before? OR EVEN A WEEK BEFORE? At least give us the decency of a week prior so we don't waste our toll, gas and time driving down to Ybor once again. To be completely honest with you...my husband and I truly believe that Phil never truly looked at our designs after our consultation. He never contacted us a week before our scheduled time (like he said he does with all his clients) and we really do believe he just wanted his Saturday off. He blew us off - at least that is what it seemed like. My husband and I are working professionals with our master's degrees. We are in our mid 30's - we are responsible and know to research things like this. We thought we did the right steps. We trusted in Phil (and respected him and his work and experience) only to be let down. I am amazed at how someone like Phil can have a successful business when he treats his clients the way he treated us.

I recently got a tattoo on my foot of a dragonfly. I am very pleased with the artwork and the tattoo job that he did. I have another one on my back that I got 8 years ago that I am not happy with at all, so I was scared to get another one incase it did not turn out good but I am more than happy with the job that Red Letter 1 did. I will be going back to them to get the one on my back covered up.
