The gym has charged us differently every month since signing up in August. They told us that we would be charged ten yet they draft $20 a month per member.

They never mentioned an annual fee that's charged in November to "all members"

Dirty and the broken equipment does not get fixed. Snotty management.

Do you like up to date equipment, friendly staff and alert staff? More over do you like what you pay for to work?
This is not the gym for you, for the past three months I have been a member, the hot tub has not worked, the equipment is left covered in other peoples sweat, and stuff is growing in the lockers, Lights have been out in the entire mens locker room for some period of time. On top of this, locker room curtains are on the floor, were they not to be hung on walls? A certain clique of the patronage, say fifty percent, prefers to follow you through the locker room and showers, and show you what they can do with their own anatomy while they stare yours down while you attempt to shower and change. I have brought all these things to managers' attention, and the responses are sorry, use the family locker room, which is just as filthy, or well get on that. I DO NOT reccomend this bath house be used as a gym.

Buyer beware. My wife's membership expired after one year and she tried to cancel it right then but was told she had to speak to the "manager". She tried to contact the manager multiple times but he never returned her phone calls and he was never in when she worked out (he doesn't come in til later in the day). I also called many times with no response from the manager. I finally went by the gym one afternoon and had to have a face to face meeting with the "manager" to get the membership cancelled. Wow, what a way to run a business. We will not join any Golds ever again. This caused us a couple of more automatic drafts which I tried to stop but the Golds "finance" person never responded to any of my emails. Instead look at O2 Fitness or Lifestyle.

Seems like even though the gym at Six Forks and Saw Mill Rd. has just had a renovation, it is still been filled with "left over equipment" from other gyms. The counter employee's are great but, the management is far less than standard. This is also true for the Gold's t North Hills.
I don't think they take their job serious, and they show up to play boss. Cocky attitudes, snide remarks, and arrogant looks shouldn't be part of their job title. The manager and from Indiana and his side kick Nick are the wolds worst. I will not renew and will be joining O2 Fitness next month.
It's not what they charge for unsafe/poor parking and bad management.

I've been a member for almost 3 years. In that 3 years, I've had repeated calls from the billing company saying the membership hadn't been paid when it was. I also was billed for someone else's membership. The nail in the coffin was being billed a large amount for duplicate accounts. The managment will never take your call and the people at the desk are morons. They couldn't care less if the customer is happy. I am leaving and taking 3 other memberships with me. If you do decide to join, do not give them your bank account/debit card. Use a credit card or they'll empty your bank account. Also, it's full of meat heads grunting and slamming machines.

I joined Peak Fitness on Duraleigh a year or so ago because my daughter had joined. I showed up to exercise one day at Duraleigh Peak Fitness and the doors were padlocked & the business was closed. I received a letter from Gold's Gym that our memberships had been transferred to Gold's and that the credit card I used had expired. I started getting monthly bills with stiff penalties included. I tried to cancel my membership by phone and was told I had to speak to a manager. i was on hold for 20 minutes, with periodic messages, that I was 5th in line to speak to a manager, then 4th in line, then 3rd, etc. When my turn came, the system disconnected me. A few days later, I got a call from a collection agency that my credit could be affected if I ever tried to get a loan, etc., etc. i paid the balances and hope my account is finally cancelled. Separate topic - I have belonged to the YMCA on Baileywick for two years & love it. It's clean and the staff are very professional.

When I joined two years ago, Gold's was rebuilding its name in Raleigh with a new franchisee who had bought the Pulse clubs, moved the Highwoods club to North Hills and another franchisee who built the new club at Pleasant Valley. I had been a member at the previous franchise, which became Beyond Fitness, then Peak Fitness, which was a horrible experience. In the interim, I had been a member of O2 and Spa Health Clubs (signed up just before Capital Fitness bought them, and got out as soon as they became part of Peak Fitness).

This gym has suddenly gotten incredibly crowded - and this is after the typical January blitz. We found out that all of the Peak Fitness memberships have been absorbed by the new Gold's franchise in Raleigh. I have a bad feeling that this Gold's franchise is headed down a familiar road. I hope that I'm wrong.

I've been a member at two Golds in different states and I like the one in Raleigh best.

Right now, the classes are my favorite part...spin class and body pump are killer, and there's one yoga teacher who does the most challenging class I've ever been a part of (Tuesday Night with Meridith). Traditionally, I've found yoga at gyms isn't very true to form...this one is!!!!

The only thing I've run into is I don't work a traditional 9-5 schedule...that means I miss out on the prime classes and in my mind, the gym closes early.

The gym is PACKED at the typical time...5-7pm but I've never had to wait too long for a machine. Most people there know what they're doing at a gym, so they'll let you work in a set during the peak hours.

It seems female friendly...for women who feel uncomfortable mixing in on the free weights upstairs, there's a women's only room where they can let it all hang out!

I pay $40 a month, which might sound expensive to some people, but if you take advantage of the classes, it's truly worth it.

If you're serious about traing for something like I am, they have an easily accessable body fat tester to measure your progress (weight, BMI, body fat, body water...) and their trainers will talk to you about your goals without being too pushy. The trainers have given me some guidance, even though I haven't hired one of them. In general, I get the impression they want to help, not sell you on stuff, which other Golds sometimes do.

I enjoy it here and I've made some friends. You'll find one or two of the "gym grunters" who love to show off or guys who stare at the women shamelessly, but overall, everyone smiles while keeping to themselves for that one common goal: get fit!

If any of the Golds staff is reading this---PLEASE BUY A VERSA CLIMBER to add to your equipment. It's the only thing missing from an otherwise outstanding facility! VERSA CLIMBER!!!!!

I recently joined Gold's at Pleasant Valley. It is one of the nicest facilities that I have been to as far as Gym's go. The have circuit and free weights as well as hammer strength equipment and great classes. Michael is a great personal trainer by the way (really understands body mechanics and proper form). The gym is nice, but you have to pay if you want to play.
