Went yesterday night and the place was so noisy that I had to leave taking the dessert with me home.
We ordered 2 plates of pasta: the raviolinis, which were very salty and also small for the price. The other dish was past with mushrooms and chestnate sauce, badly executed and almost sweet.
For dessert I ordered a tiramisu, probably the worst I've ever tried. No mascarpone at all, except for a spoon. It was all biscuits.
I do not recommend this place on weekend nights or for pasta.
The wine is excellent, thought (we tried 2 types)

Enoteca Vespaio is the ideal spot to grab your breakfast in their bistro inspired deli area. You will find them a much tastier and more healthy choice for your next breakfast.

Great food. It is not only delicious, but also artistic. As they don't take reservations, there can be a long wait on the weekend for tables. So, the last couple of times we ate there we sat at the bar. The bartenders are great and know their distinct wine list. The cheese platter has an incredible selection of cheeses, with candied nuts and paper thin sliced fruits. It was so well presented, it was a shame to eat it. (But we did and loved it.) The Pasta is done perfectly and don't forget to leave room for dessert. For the quality of food and experience, it is a place that you can feel comfortable in jeans and for what you get, the prices are very reasonable.

Cons: Parking is not easy, but we always enjoy the walk down South Congress

My wife and I supped here a few months ago as a friend gave us a coupon. My wife is Italian, and to our dismay, whenever we eat out at an Italian restaurant, we usually find that her cooking is better.

Luckily, we actually found an Italian Restaurant that is at least worth the trip out. They really could improve on their service and personality, but at least the food was good. Prices were reasonable, but not cheap. A good place to go to for a special dinner.

Today 5/30/08 I joined a few (3) friends for lunch to celebrate a birthday. After being served a greasy lunch, we requested 4 small plates to share a small cake between ourselves. To our dismay we were told we could not discreetly share the cake. HOWEVER, WE COULD SHARE THE CAKE IF WE AGREED TO PAYED NEARLY $2 PER PERSON. I'm appalled because we did not ask for a free lunch, a mariachi routine, or dancing on the table to announce my friends birthday.

I HAVE NO PLANS TO RETURN, BUT SHOULD YOU DECIDE TO EAT THERE I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO LOOK AGAIN AT HOW GREASY THE FOOD REALLY IS BEFORE YOU EAT IT.

UNHAPPY NATIVE AUSTINITE!

Vespaio is as close to a perfect restaurant as it comes. The food is spectacular, the best you will have in Texas. It is very affordable. The atmosphere is great, as well as the service. The only drawback is that the dining room is a little small, and can be a little noisy.

I love love love Enoteca. It should be noted that the phone number is 441-7672. The suppli is wonderful & the specials are always amazing. Service is top notch too! It's a great place to go for coffee in the morning, then a casual lunch & then back again for a romantic dinner. Brunch is awesome too! You can eat there every day & have something different.

Enoteca is not only a great place to go to for lunch or dinner, but their Sunday brunch is outstanding week after week. The inside of the restaurant is very similar to a cafe you would find in Italy: small intimate tables filled with great quality food. I would highly recommend this restaurant and also the neighboring one, Vespaio (they share a kitchen). It is definitely worth eating at for any out of town visitor.

The perfect place for whatever mood you are in... Sitting at the bar is wonderful. You can do takeout too if you don't fancy waiting. My favorite place in austin. :)

This is my favorite restaurant in town (well equal to the higher priced big brother next door, Vespaio). Everything is delicious. The pasta, the pizzas, the salads...don't get me started on the french fries. It's a little cramped in there but definitely worth it!

Pros: everything!

Very cute restaurant, but the inside dining area was small and cramped, so we sat outside. The calamari panini forno was awesome -- very crispy and well seasoned. The aioli was a little plain, but the serving was very large. The lemon tart was big enough for two people, but I loved it so much I didn't share!

If you want the true athmosphere of an Italian casual enoteca (wine cellar), then this is the place to go. As a person with 23 years experience of the true Italian lifestyle...the authenticity and quality of the food are excellent, the athmosphere is authentic, the service personnel is very good but not friendly (just like in Italy). Ergo, it's perfect!

Pros: TRUE Italian

Cons: Service not quite Texan friendly

.

I love my Italian and especially enjoy Tuscany. This place reminds me of the little Enoteca?s around Lago de Como and Tuscany. Small homey with some simple delicious dishes and some more experimental dishes. The specials are a huge plus, every time fresh and always a new spin on things. I had a very, very nice cannelloni dish not made with pasta, rather with a very thin crisp crepe. The greatest is their wonderful sliced meat appetizers, salami (yeah I love that stuff and they have the best), special cheeses and dishes that are made with very fresh garden grown vegetables. If you want something light try the Caprese (best outside of Tuscany I ever had), with daily fresh made Mozzarella cheese and garden grow tomatoes. Some of the vegetables might not look picture perfect, but the taste my god. The wait staff is fantastic and adds to what makes Austin, Austin! The bar is an absolute plus and if you are going alone for dinner or lunch, there is always some nice people to chat over lunch (just like in the small European bistros).
Want an Italian vacation without the travel or just relax during lunch (taking an Italian lunch with a little wine, pasta and salami), Enoteca is THE place. Prices are much more reasonable then at Vesapio and the atmosphere is great!

I was very impressed with Enoteca. From the Antipasti to the dessert I was absolutely floored by the quality of the food. The prices are unbelievable for the food quality and the portions are perfect. I especially love the extensive antipasti menu. The stuffed peppers and pate were my favorites, but I intend on coming back often to try the rest.
Ignore the ramblings of the pompous bufoon who gave a bad rating because of the tatooed staff. Can anyone really be that ignorant? I found the staff to be courteous and very knowledgeable about the food. Each of their recommendations was perfect.

You can get your Vespaio fix during the day now (Vespaio, their other restaurant is next door). This is a very cool place, amazing lites and very cozy feel. If you like Vespaio and how can you not, you will not be disappointed.

It was really hard to enjoy the food with what seemed to be a policy to hire only staff with tattoos and attitudes that were equally missplaced. I guess the neighborhood patrons enjoy it, but it is probably not the place for everyone. The unwashed masses will like it, but I would have to say no to my friends.

Best spinach salad I've ever had. This place is very romantic without being stuffy. I've tried one of the eggplant paninis and a seafood pasta dish and both were excellent. My husband and I also loved dessert, which I think they make in-house as well as all their own breads. It's a bit crowded and loud and you definitely don't want to take the kids in there, but I felt the dining room had a nice warm ambience. There is also a patio which seems to be closed everytime I'm there.

I love Enoteca - it's one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. It's the less expensive and less fussy sister of Vespaio - I love Vespaio, too, but I prefer Enoteca for more frequent dining. It's the perfect neighborhood restaurant with a great selection of food, a friendly wait staff, and low priced desserts so that you can try several. :-) I've ordered many things, but I always go back to the spinach salad and the pappardelle (I prefer it with the arribiatta sauce over the bolognese). I only have two bits of advice: try to talk the hostess into a rectangular table if you are with 3 people because the bistro tables are too small for 3 and don't judge the restaurant solely by the wine list - it's definitely lacking. Overall, when my husband and I have an Enoteca date, I look forward to it all day!

My husband and I have eaten here several times and tried many different dishes; all have been very good to excellent. The quality is on the same level as that of the sister restaurant, Vespaio, but at more affordable prices. I highly recommend their gnocchi, it is one of the best gnocchi dishes in Austin. Noodles for the pasta dishes have never been overcooked in our experience. The pizza is great; it has a thin and crisp crust, and the toppings are quite flavorful. We've also enjoyed desserts, including cannelloni and a chocolate lasagna, all have been wonderful. The service is friendly and prompt. They don't automatically provide bread at the start of the meal, but if you request it, they will. That is just the kind of place this is!

Some friends took us to Enoteca when we were visiting Austin and we loved it so much we got hooked! Both the dinners and lunches are excellent and the wine list is extensive and interesting and affordable. We tried pastas, salads, appetizers, and the pomme frites... whoa. So good! I'm not a big pasta person, with all the carbs and white flour and such, but I nearly licked my plate of mushroom tagliatelle. So savory! Why can't we get pasta like this in Seattle?!? Also, I'm a kind of spinach salad afficianado and order them whenever I can and this one is one of the best I've ever had (despite the bagged spinach used). And it's Texas-sized, so get the small even if you are sharing!

Another big bonus is the terrific ambience and good service--not the world's greatest service but good enough that you're not terribly neglected. My big regret is what I didn't eat and do: the pizzas, which look fabulous; the Sunday brunch, which we were told was stellar; and the outdoor patio, which the weather didn't allow for.

There are a ton of great restaurants in Austin but if I stay on Congress I'll go back here again and again. Highly recommended!

I love Enoteca! I have had nothing but fabulous service & amazing food. The brunch is to die for & the daily specials are so good. It's just so hard to decide what to order! The staff is so knowledgeable. It's so great to go to a restaurant where the servers are excited about the food. And it's obvious that the management cares a great deal about the staff as well as the customers. I was actually there one day for lunch & witnessed a customer be so rude to the server & the manager. He had actually counted the minutes that it took for the waiter to come back with his drinks! The manager tried so hard to make him happy, but he wouldn't have it. He actually told her that he didn't want an explanation. Why did he want to speak to the manager then? I guess he just wanted to complain. On his way out he started yelling at the hostess & made her cry! The manager really took up for her staff & tried to make the customer happy, but when it was obvious that he refused to be rational she asked him to leave. I don't blame her! It was really good to see that Enoteca not only puts out great food & gives great service, it's also got the 'everyone is family' vibe. It's like they love what they do & they want everyone (staff & customers) to enjoy it, but they are not above asking someone to leave if they are being abusive to the 'family'. I'll be eating there for a long time to come.

The food here is wonderful!! I went with my husband, and everything we ordered was delivered to us hot and fresh off the oven. Plus, you could tell that all the ingredients are fresh. My husband ordered a caesar salad, and they split it in half and served us both salad. (nice!) The suppli were warm, cheese laden delights. The panini is to die for, as are the french fries, which are sprinkled with cheese and parsley. The waitress was very attentive, and she was constantly refilling Enoteca's delicious iced tea. We finished up the meal with a perfect cup of coffee and an espresso eclair. It was an overall perfect meal, prices are good, service is great, and the food is outstanding!

My husband and I visited for the first time and sat at the bar. The bartender who served us was so nice to us, answered tons of questions and really pampered us during our whole meal. He was so nice I thought he must be a manager but when I asked he said "no, just a bartender!".
The bellinis are wonderful, the spinach salad was great and big enough for two and the main courses we had were great! We will be back - amazing food for such a nice price!

This was our third visit and our last. We were seated at a dirty table to begin the evening. Our waitor disappeared for seven minutes before finally bringing water and a menue to the table. The explanation was that he was also working the patio. The restaurant was only 1/4 full at the time. The food is great from (past experiences) as it comes from the shared Vespaio recently renovated and expanded kitchen. Try another Austin favorite before you visit Enoteca or spend a little more and visit Vespaio. The service and management was a disappointment.

This was a pleasant suprise. For tasty, truly authentic Italian dishes served by a professional staff at a reasonable price, this is the place. I highly recommend the Gnocci, which is difficult to find in Austin.

Saturday lunch 1-28-06 - very casual - hip, Austin vibe. The two rooms were full of diners. Prompt, professional and courteous service - ordered a *spinach salad, not sure of it's title; it was A+. *Spinach with some radichio, juliened marinated red bell pepper, sliced mushrooms, some chunks of gorganzola cheese hidden under the spinach leaves with some cheese croutons as well, blanced with a light vinegarette salad dressing. Outstanding salad. Then I went overboard and tried the meatball sandwich which was equally great. I'll return. Park in back.

Enoteca Vespaio is a wonderful restaurant that is reminiscent of a small cafe in Italy. Excellent food: al dente pasta, housemade charcuterie, traditional thin crust pizzas, suppli and scrumptious daily specials all made with the finest ingredients for a bargain!
The service is great, with a knowledgeable and friendly staff. Great wine selection.
excellent brunch. Great pastries and deserts. Open at 8 if you want a latte and a muffin in the am.
Yet another rising star in the Austin dining scene.

We always have a great meal here. Try the hanger steak. The best ceasar salad in town. Very simple! The dining room is a little noisey, we prefer the bar.

Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great Friends

Cons: Loud, Crowded

.

We ordered pasta with clams. No bowl provided to place shells in. Food served in a far-too-small bowl. No spoon to roll spagetti with. No spoon to be able to eat sauce with - the waitress saw us using the iced-tea spoon and didn't think to bring table spoons. In all, price is too high, service is friendly but clueless on what silverware & place setting is required for eating.
