This is a nice store that features good wine, great cheeses, tasty crackers, and specialty jellies, sauces and relishes. Fun to walk through and there's always something new to try.

This owner-operated cheese store is impressive by OC standards. Nestled in Old Town Orange, Frog's Breath Cheese Store boasts a healthy selection of fromage, wine, jams, and (culinary) accessories.

What I purchased:
1/4 lb of Ewe Blue, $10.14: VERY good combo of ewe and blue.
1/3 lb of Soft Asiago, $5.38: smooth and soft, good.
1/5 lb of Prosciutto, $5.18: fresh and salty.
1/4 lb of Salami, $5.10: "red wine and herb salami," pretty good.
1 Baguette, $2.99: not very good.
1 Garlic Aioli, $10.69: excellent garlic/mayo spread.
1 Chestnut Honey Mustard, $8.49: VERY honey flavored; perhaps with a wurst.
1 Boletus Edulis, $8.99: VERY good mushroom spread.
1 Hedges CMS White Wine, $12.39: good, chilled.
Total (with Tax) $70.31.

The owner was behind the counter. She was very friendly and offered a sample for any meats and cheeses that sparked our interest.

Although the service was friendly and the atmosphere was comfortable, Frog's Breath Cheese Store seems to be a bit over-priced. Example: A wheel (or 1lb) of Pur Brebis is $25.00 at Frog's Breath while only $20.00 at High Times Wine Cellars (not a Fromagerie by any standards) in Costa Mesa.

I also recommend that the Frog add more mustards and a more authentic baguette (which was not worth the 3 dollars charged).

I recommend giving Frog's Breath a try. Go for the cheese, atmosphere and friendly owner, but save your other purchases for TJ's.

Note: I have not been there for scheduled wine-tastings, but may give it a try...

Cheers!

Pros: friendly staff, samples, 7-minute wine chiller

Cons: price

.

Staff didn't seem quite as knowledgeable as cheese stores in NY, WA or OR . I'ts difficult to take a fromagerie too seriously that carries mango stilton and other dubious 'party cheese'.

Cons: Not knowledgeable

This store is a true gem! It has the biggest selection in Orange County and it is all cut to order. Staff is very knowledgeable and will help you put together an impressive cheese plate. They offer generous samples so you know what you are getting before you take it home. The cheese and wine pairings are always dead on. Just ask for a recommendation. They recently recommended that we try a somewhat ordinary mango stilton with a cruncy butter cookie and champagne for dessert. It was delicious and far from just an "ordinary party cheese. "

P.S. Staff is friendly and helpful, so if you are looking for a snooty or negative environment to make you feel like a big shot you need to go somewhere else.

Pros: Great cheese, knowledgeable staff and unpretentious environment

Cons: Parking can be tough. There is parking behind the store for customers
