Was made one offer, then sold something else, bait and switch. Do not pay for a full year up front. Will not be going back to this gym. Shouldn't have paid for the full membership. Now I've been trying to cancel and they are not returning calls, and won't respond to emails.

The gym itself is small but decent. However, the customer service is horrendous.
After becoming ill last year I called and asked for my training account to be put on hold. I was too sick to go in face-to-face but received a call back from a "manager" named Alex, who said left a message on my voicemail stating my account would be on hold "through March." As I was too sick to go in face-to-face, I took him at his word and as February came I had to reassess my situation and decided to cancel my membership and training all together due to both health and financial strain.

Unfortunately, "through March" apparently means "February 15th." I have spent the last two weeks going round and round with customer service regarding over $400 in charges for training I will never get to use. I finally got a call back from Alex tonight, who denies ever having called. He refuses to do anything for me and actually said "it's really just your word." He then hung up on me.

I plan to go through old bills to find documentation that the calls actually took place. Unfortunately, I don't have the phone that the message was left on anymore. However, since no one ever lets you escalate things to higher management I doubt even proving that I had multiple phone calls from them will help me much with these issues.

I hope that all will "proceed with caution" before considering signing up with this gym and especially for training. I especially hope that everyone will get everything in writing as apparently you have to prove to them that you are not a liar.

Kids zone staff is nice but untrained in offerings, activities, etc. Kid zone seems ok for younger ones but my school-aged kids were really unimpressed by a roomful of toddler/preschool kids. Very high pressure sales staff that wouldn't accept the fact that I didn't want to share my fitness goals with them. Kept saying he'll get in trouble if he doesn't ask me these questions and I don't give him answers. Also lots of pressure to sign up for contract. Will go to a couple classes to get my $20 worth but wouldn't recommend to most. If you do class, bring ear plugs--my ears are still ringing. Not impressed with instructor--terrible form, little instruction, but staff has fit bodies. Good workout if you have weight lifting knowledge and know how to modify for own body; asking for injuries if new

I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau.
They are nothing but liars and crooks.
I specifically told them I did not want a contract, just a pay as you go to make sure that was what I wanted. Eddie agreed and said all you have to do is come in and tell me you don't want a membership any more and he would cancel it.
That is exactly what I did. He supposedly cancelled the contract I was not supposed to have.
Low and behold, I continued to be billed!!!!
NOTHING BUT LIARS!!!!!!

Don't go to this gym unless you want a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!! They blatantly lie to you when you sign up so DON'T TRUST ANYTHING THEY SAY! They told me to sign up for their most expensive package with the option of switching to the less expensive one if I decided to change jobs... news flash... they won't do it. They are liars and basically thieves!

Had a 2-year contract with these people - they only honored part of the contract. Not happy with the facility or the gym. Would like to get my money back.

The following describes our treatment at the 3050 S Gilbert Road facility. Your mileage may vary.

My wife and I recently relocated to Gilbert, Arizona from California where we??ve been a member of a gym for years. After a few months in our new home, my wife set out to find a new workout home in our area. Right after taking a look at all the gyms in the area, we found a neighbor was selling a small coupon booklet as a fund-raiser for a local baseball booster club that featured a 3-month membership at Fitness Works. Perfect! The club was nearby our home and the facilities (weight machines of all kinds and access to classes) were perfect for us. Later, we made an appointment with a representative, LaDarl, to meet after I got off from work. I was excited to get started. Little did I know that the proverbial fecal matter was about to hit the air mover.

We checked in at the front desk, had a brief wait and then LaDarl came over and introduced himself. He then proceeded to ask questions designed to ??qualify? us as clients willing to pay more money for access to their facilities. I don??t have a problem with this place making money off of us; in fact, I??m looking to become a customer and I want them to be profitable. But first, I have these shiny new coupons that allow my wife and me an extended trial of the facilities before signing any other contracts or making other commitments, or so we naively thought.

He informed us that their facility is a cut above the rest and he would like to take our measurements and weigh us so we could ??get on a fitness program? and ??set goals?. Frankly, our goals are to ??work out?. That??s it. We just want a place to work out and Fitness Works looked spectacular for us with a reasonable proximity to our home, appeared clean and well maintained (from the front desk area, we never made it farther). He did not like our relatively simplistic attitude concerning our goals and the discussion actually progressed downhill rapidly. He then proceeded to ask client qualifying questions like ??What do you do for a living?? Frankly, what does it matter? I have their fund-raising voucher that is obviously a loss-leader marketing tool. Please just sign us up and you??ve got a customer for years if we like working out at this club.

Well, LaDarl went away for a while and upon his return apologized for our not getting off to a good start. I started thinking that we were going to activate the membership and move on. Oh how ridiculously wrong I was. LaDarl then informed us that he had elected not to extend the membership to us and that was the end of it. Say what!? I then asked if he was the manager. He informed me that he wasn??t. I asked if he ??owned? us as clients, meaning he had the hooks in for future commissions from us. He answered ??No.? Great, then I asked to speak with someone else.

LaDarl got up and went into a back office with someone while I sought out another front-desk counselor/salesman. Kush (sp?) would not help us until he went into the same office currently harboring LaDarl. He then came out with all smiles and I thought we could finally make progress. He proceeded to inform us that the 3-month memberships for which we had vouchers could be activated after signing a contract with the club as our paying another $74! So let me get this right? You will activate my 3-month membership for which I have already paid $40 total, for just $74 for a total of $114. This is both bait and switch and false advertising. Both activities are EXTREMELY ILLEGAL (see http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/guides/baitads-gd.htm for more information).

Now I??m (unfortunately) quite pissed and asked for them to return the $40 paid for my now worthless vouchers. Kush went on to inform me that I can contact Joel Marsden, who I??m informed is responsible for fund-raisers to get our money back. Kush indicated that Joel will authorize a refund since my business is being refused. Kush then provided me with Joel??s business card. Joel Marsden can be reached at POB 411, 3210 W. Carefree Hwy, Phoenix, AZ 85086, 480.710.5783, jmarsden@fitnessfunds.org. I am providing this for any other people duped by the Fitness Works bait and switch routine. I will contact him shortly for a refund but I don??t have my hopes up. I just flipped over Joel??s business card for the first time and was shocked to see the back plastered with ??3 MONTH HEALTH CLUB MEMBERSHIPS ONLY $20?. Are you kidding me!?

To say that my wife and I are upset would be a gross understatement. Frankly, as I write this I am nothing short of livid. How can a company be successful with business practices of this nature? They treated us rudely, dishonestly, and unethically. Due to their bait and switch activities, they are also acting illegally. Should you find yourself looking for a gym in the Gilbert/Chandler, AZ area, I strongly suggest that you avoid our frustration and look elsewhere.

This is a very nice gym. I have received two complementary memberships, and I've enjoyed using them both!! When I have more time, I will definitely go back! Good class list, locker rooms are nice, cycle class, and a pool.

Who likes to go to the gym. Not me. The only reason I go is because I'm afraid of arthritis setting in. The front staff always greats you with a smile and the instructors are knowledgeable.

I felt like if you weren't a pretty person (shape wise) they did not pay great attention to you. I mean don't get me wrong, the equiptment is great and accessible if you go in the off hours. But otherwise it is just another fitness place.
