My boyfriend took me here for my birthday, and we had a wonderful experience. It was pricey, but very romantic. It makes for a great ""first date"" atmosphere.

Elegant and Classy ambiance with the most outstanding service and an exceptional cullinary presentation. The drinks and the food are something that you'd always want to ask for more. Fine dining at it's finest indeed.

Every dinner I am invited to at the Capital Grille I make an effort to attend. The finest Delmonico marbled steak I have ever enjoyed, and a roasted mushroom plate to die for.

A knowledgeable staff and expert table service makes an effort to make you feel comfortable in the lush and mildly pretentious interior, if you count rich luxury that backs it up with fine food as pretentious.

The bar serves as a waiting area, and is packed without exception, the bar patrons range from bejeweled older ladies to upper crust discussing the business deals of the day surrounded by stuffed animal heads and paintings of British officers and Babe Zaharias.

The dining rooms are a bit packed but comfortable. The wine menu is nothing compared to Bern's but definitely adequate, and the staff is more than willing to offer tastings of by the glass wine and give suggestions on pairing.

A memorable meal, with an expected price, but worth it.

The capital grille is an upper class restaurant with prime steaks and wonderful seafood. The service is excellent. It was nice to dress up an enjoy a night of fine dining.

Pros: Example: best croissants in town

Cons: What are the drawbacks?

Elegant atmosphere, wonderful ambiance, outstanding service, excellent culinary masterpieces. Request Ciff for a server. The pineapple martini is superb. The lamb chops are the best in Tampa Bay. In this economy, my money is best spent at an establishment that caters to good taste, appreciates its patrons, and offers exceptional products. Treat yourself to fine dining...we felt as though we were in New York City in the 1950s. Incredibly satisfying and memorable.

Would definitely recommend. Great variety on the menu....kinda pricey but definitely worth it. Call ahead especially on Fridays and Saturdays. Game nights can be pretty hectic as well...But don't miss the opportunity to eat there.

The first time I walked in I was greeted personally and then I went over to the bar to wait for my other friends to arrive. The bartender asked my name, and never forgot it on subsequent visits. Everything is expensive, but the quality is worth it. \r
Whether you want to impress, or just have a quite place to dine, this is a great spot. If you are looking for a small crowded 'local pub' this is not it. The lounge area around the bar is a nice place to sit as well, and is set up like the club they market themselves as. \r
Storage for your cigars and wines offered too. (The bar and dining area are smoke free.)

Although a little pricey, the food and service at the Capital Grille are both outstanding. The service was wonderful! It's a place where you can have a quiet intimate meal. The one complaint that I have is that their prices are a little high. But then, if you want a good meal, the price is worth it.

I went to Capital Grille with my sister for my 24th birthday and I was extremely impressed. Upon arriving, the hostess and manager both greeted me with a happy birthday. We were promptly seated at a booth for 2 that was covered with confetti for the occation. Our waiter greeted us both by our name and was very knowledgeable on the menu. He recommended a mozzerella-encrusted filet mignon which I ordered for $41. He also suggested a half-order of the au gratin potatoes instead of the regular $9 portion we tried to order. It was appreciated because we couldn't even finish that! The food was delicious, definately worth the price. Our waiter brought out choc cake with a candle lit, for dessert. He also snapped a picture of us on a digital camera and we were presented with the photo in an envelope when we left. My sister order filet mignon and a glass of reisling wine. I had a bacardi and juice drink. Our 2 steaks, 2 drinks, and potatoes came out to $108. We left a $22 tip. Upon leaving my waiter gave me a squishy light-up toy as a gift for my birthday. He was humorous and very good. I highly recommend this place. They made me feel very special

Much more impressed with the Capital Grille in Kansas City. When you represent a restaurant of this caliber, details are important. I found the place in need of a good cleaning and dusting. Service was okay, but we did have a group of 7, so that may have had something to do with it. Disappointed with the meal...did not leave me with that ""wow"" factor that I look for, and always receive at Ruth's Chris.

There are a lot of choices in Tampa Bay for a business meeting or celebration dinner and all of the top restaurant chains have noticed this...and moved to town. Capital Grille replaced the failed Keyshawn Johnson's sushi restaurant in it's prime International Plaza location and it has flourished ever since. The decor is top notch, food always prepared fresh and arrives at your table hot and seasoned just right. The calamari is the best I have ever tried and the steaks are always cooked to the right temperature, which is hard even for other top chains to consistently produce. The bar area, centered around a two-story glass wine tower (the only part of the aforementioned sushi restaurant that remains) is probably the best in Tampa Bay. The atmosphere is welcoming and the bartenders always make you feel like you belong. The wine list certainly covers a lot of ground and is quite brash with some selections letting you know that there are some wines that are best left for people that don't ask the price (try the Screaming Eagle if you can get it), but just as many selections that will be easy on your wallet and fit well with the menu. The original manager (Paul Hawkins) that designed the wine list has left, but the remaining managers have a thorough knowledge of the cellar, so be sure to ask for suggestions. But for any restaurant where charge cards roam happily in fields of hundred dollar bills, to be rated 5 stars, the service must be beyond reproach; attentive when needed and anticipating your needs before they arise. This is where the Capital Grille shines - as close to the Ritz Carlton service standard as one can hope for outside of the Ritz.\r
With the world renowned Bern's in town, The Capital Grille knew they would have to excel in all areas, and they have announced to Tampa - we are here and we are committed to be the best. Bern's will always be THE standard in town, but The Capital Grille has certainly planted their flag pole above all of the chains.

Cons: Can get crowded at times and parking is a detractor when compared to competitors

Disappointing. But a decent wine list, strangely enough.\r
Server was serial rude-- 4 times, in fact. Beware the pretentious old guy waiter in glasses.\r
Chefs are **** compared to Chicago/NY steakhouses. My coworker's food was raw.\r
Mine was ""airline"" level. \r
Management doesn't care. Figures local Tampans are easily satisfied. : )\r
Feel free to take your guests, family and clients, if they don't know any better

Great restaurant , love this place! With my 10th visit thus far, I am compelled to write this review - I have not been disappointed once. Right up there with Morton's of Chicago, Peter Luger's in NY (a legendary steakhouse) - this place is excellent PERIOD.\r

I have always had a great meal at Capital Grille. Great appetizers, I always start with the chopped salad. They have a nice wine list. The steaks are prepared beautifully. Great place for an after work dinner, located at International Mall. You can have drinks later at Blue Martini. Sit out on the patio!

This is a nice place to come for a high quality dinner. Yes, it is pricey, but is on par with Shula's, Bern's, Ruth's Chris, Charlie's Steak House and Armani's. Not the place to go for a quick meal, dining here is an upper crust experience - which comes with the upper crust price tag also. As a matter of fact, all the restaurants I named here rate between a 9 and 10. Definitely not the place to bring kids - for that there's any fast food outlet.

Food is amazing, service is fantastic, wine list is phenomenal. I went all dressed-up for a romantic date and had an incredible sit-down dinner, then I went with a friend to watch the NLCS in jeans and a t-shirt and ate at the bar. Both times, I received incredible service, had fantastic wine, and delectible dishes. The Capital Grille is my new home away from home!!!

My wife and I dined at the Capital Grille for our 16 year wedding anniversary and have to admit that everything was absolutely perfect. From the moment we walked in the door to the time we left. The one thing that will make or break a dining experience for us has always been the service, and without question, the Capital Grille delivered. For entrées I had the Kona Crusted Dry aged Sirloin with Caramelized Shallot Butter. This two-inch/14 oz slice of heaven was cooked to perfection (medium rare) and melted in my mouth. My wife enjoyed a specially requested wild salmon that was perfectly cooked (medium rare). Both entrées were delicious and highly recommended. The location of the Capital Grille is also wonderful. After dinner, we were able to enjoy some of the light night life and take in some live music along Bay Street. The Capital Grille is absolutely worth checking out.

Capital Grille is by far the BEST Steak Restaurant in the Tampa Bay area. The service is outstanding. The attention to detail, the attentiveness of each and every member of the staff is such that our family feels at home and welcome whenever we visit. We have had quiet romantic dinners and wonderful celebrations at the Capital Grille. The staff has made every dinner with them special. They go out of their way to make sure your special event is unforgettable. Cakes, Roses, Confetti you name it they will have it ready and waiting! We were so impressed with the Capital Grille our first few visits that we now regularly hold business meetings during Dinner and also had our Holiday Dinner for our staff in one of the private rooms there. We feel it is a wonderful place to bring a client, friend or relative if you are looking to impress. The Steaks are prepared to perfection. The side dishes are so good it is hard to pick just one. The seafood is equally as fresh and prepared perfectly.\r
Another great feature is that it is open for lunch Monday - Friday. I love the steak sandwich! \r
Move over Bern's, Ruth and Charley's Capital Grille has taken over the town! Treat yourself you won't be disapointed. Capital Grille has become our new favorite restaurant!

Pros: Best Food and Service in Tampa Bay!

.

Nowhere else in Tampa will you be treated better than here. This is the first restaurant I've encountered where the service is as excellent as the food. You'll get good steak elsewhere, but most steakhouses around the Bay won't provide a staff that bends over backwards for you. The kitchen can prepare anything you desire, even if it's not on the menu. When I couldn't find desserts that I wanted, my waiter LEFT THE BUILDING to go to a neighbouring restaurant and BUY IT FOR ME. Later I saw the same waiter delivering wine to a customer at the martini bar around the corner because that bar had run out. Think something like that would happen at Bern's? Or Charlie's? Or Ruth's Chris? Or Fleming's? Not a chance. This young man even sent me a ""thank you"" note a couple of days later. He didn't have to do that, just like he didn't have to go out of his way for someone else's tiramisu. That's service. That's CLASS. It's no wonder that competing restaurateurs circle this place like sharks, trying to scarf up ideas along with customers. Innovative menu items like dry-aged strip dusted with espresso or ribeye dressed with dried mushrooms and aged balsamic are not only superb, but compliment classic steakhouse fare like filet mignon, creamed spinach, and french onion soup. Sure, it can get crowded and a little noisy, but what popular places don't? The food is spectacular, the wine is top-notch, and the customer is the center of attention. At those other places, you're just another carnivore. Here, you're a guest, treated like you deserve to be.

WOW! This place is the real deal. Upon enrty, we were made to feel relaxed and welcome. Our waiter (John U.) was upbeat, professional, and really friendly. He helped us select our wine from their bountiful wine list. We had the steak oscar and the lamb. Both were the best we've ever had. This place is gold. I will seek out The Capital Grille in other cities when we travel.

The Capital Grille is reknown nationwide, but my experience in Tampa was not up to the hype. The steaks were overcooked and tough, the service barely better than casual dining, and the wine list over-rated and over-priced. I hope one of the Capital Grille corporate staff visits Tampa soon to get this site up to the quality of DC or Philadelphia.
