Eurotech Camera is a fantastic business and I have never gotten the impression that Sven is anything but helpful. I took a old polaroid 720 of mine in there for a battery, and while he did not have the part, Sven immediately directed me to several stores that carried that sort of battery. You must be patient in camera repair, especially with something that has been discontinued or gone out of business, as parts are extremely hard and time consuming to find. To call the police to retrieve a camera is simply ridiculous and I know much better graphic designers. If you can not understand someone, just ask them to repeat themselves in a neutral tone. I understand the frustration involved with camera repair, but you can only expect so much from a solitary individual working a shop.

I have used Eurotech Camera Service and have been very pleased with the results. The owner specializes in European cameras such as Leica, Hasselblad, pre-Kyocera Contax, etc. He??s been in the business for decades and knows what he is doing. He has always been kind and patient with me. I??ve seen the owner working on Leica Standards, M-series, hand stitching cloth shutters, and working with the precision of a Swiss clockmaker. These are not the kinds of cameras you send to just any tech to service. These are expensive, collectable, increasingly rare cameras requiring a level of skill that only a handful of people in the U.S. possess. The owner of Eurotech knows what he is doing .

Users that bring in their plastic Japanese digital cameras to a tech that specializes in classic European cameras may be disappointed by the results. This is the equivalent of bringing a Toyota hybrid to a BMW tech. The owner will try his best to please the customer but within reason. There are some customers that you can never please. Two weeks for a camera repair is improbably fast in the business, especially if waiting on a part to come in. While Eurotech may be able to turn around a job in that time, it is common for camera/lens repairs (no matter the tech or company) to take months. Chase Maclaskey freaked out at just two weeks: give me a break, baby. That??s nothing for a quality repair.

Again, I have had great service from Eurotech, however I am writing this in response to Chase Maclaskey??s rant on multiple places on the web. She has basically carpet-bombed a capable and kind old man because she was not patient enough to wait for her camera part to arrive. The owner asked her to return in an hour to pick up her camera because it was disassembled: I think it is a great act of generosity for him to reassemble her camera (in just an hour and at no cost) so she did not have to leave with a box of pieces. She went hysterical and called the police. Such drama!

Shame on Chase Maclaskey for trashing this small business owner for something that was essentially her fault. If this is how she treats other business owners, I wonder how she treats clients. I for one will not be using her Graphic Design business and will advise others to do the same. Her rant is more telling of her than it is of Eurotech.

The guy knows a LOT about cameras AND digital cameras. I have had him repair my cameras and other precision equipment for 20 years !

What happens is that he is sometimes swamped with work and if it is a new issue that he has not seen before he takes his time with it. He is very thorough and I have NEVER had any device he worked on fail again after his repair.

He has a short temper and if you do not know how to deal with it you are always welcome to take your camera elsewhere and pay 500% more for a way less quality repair.

Totally agree with Katey's comment below.

I brought my Nikon SLR in with the problem of a loose screw in the lens that was jangling around and needed to be fixed. The owner and sole employee, surrounded by a disorganized and dusty office of scattered cameras, told me he'd have it finished by next Wednesday (exactly 1 week). I called several times to check on it and he either a.) had no idea what camera I was talking about b.) told me to 'call back in a few days' or c.) didn't even answer the phone.

2.5 weeks later, I decide to just go to the shop - where I find the camera is in pieces, and the 'part' had just been ordered the day before. i explained to him i wanted the lens put back together to take elsewhere and he muttered a few things under his breath and continued working on two other cameras. i asked him to please put the lens together and he never had to deal with me again. to which he told me to 'keep my mouth shut or he would take me out'. An hour later, I had an Austin police officer retrieve my camera for me. Needless to say my business and my camera (now in a million pieces) went elsewhere. Go to Precision on Lamar, heck, read a manual and try and figure it out yourself. Anything is better than that kind of customer service.

I have had awesome service from eurotech for years. The first time he repaired one of my cameras he only charged me $35.00; two other shops wanted to charge me $100.00
just to diagnose the problem (these are both big well known shops here in town).
He is quick, honest and does a great job!
I highly recommend him.

I took my digital camera in here. The man really didn't seem like he knew what he was doing. He didn't have any suggestions about how to fix my problem, but rather than saying that, he kept telling me to call back in a couple of days. I took my camera elsewhere and had much better luck!
