Their pizza is made with only with the freshest ingredients; you'll taste the difference. Their rustic presentation is playful, and pleasing to the eyes.

I just got home from eating at this place with some friends for the first time. A waste of money. I'm so dissatisfied. My son and I ate a little of everything on the buffet and didn't like any of it. It costs too much. I really regret

It looked beautiful from the outside and the inside.
When we first arrived we were taken for a tour and explained what was what and I thought that was very nice. No restaurant has ever explained to me what was where on their buffet. But I guess no restaurant I have ever been to has had such a large only Italian buffet.
I read some of the reviews for this restaurant after I came back and don't agree with the negative ones. I might not be Italian but I have traveled A LOT and tried Italian food at many places. I felt Cannoli Joe's could give strong competition to any other good Italian restaurant.
I can understand how some people might think its pricey as I paid $15.99 for the weekend night buffet. I thought that price was fine for the amount of variety they offered. I would think this the price I would pay at any other good Italian restaurant.
Each dish was cooked with a lot of thought and was served just at the right temperature. And there was a large variety even for my vegetarian sister. From 6 different types of salads, to 6 different types of pizza, to 10 diff types of pasta from baked stuff to grilled stuff. And not to forget the ice-creams and the desserts. Everything was just right. I might not have liked a few things but that is because I just don't like zucchini for instance and not because it tasted bad.
The only bad experience I had at this place was that I thought the hostess was slightly rude to my friend but I'll just give her the benefit of doubt thinking that she might have been busy.
However the guy who waited on us was friendly, nice and very respectful.
Overall I had a great time and completely enjoyed the food and I would go back there anytime and would recommend this place to all my friends.

Pros: Lots and lots of variety :)

Cons: I had to think for a few mins but I couldn't think of any!

If you are a vegetarian or just someone that loves vegetables and healthy eating, I love that I have LOTS of choices. Absolutely try the Alfredo pizza with spinach.

As someone that is "high maintenance" (husband's words, not mine), it is great to be able to get a spoonful of this and mix it with a big serving of that.

The place reminds me of a cruise or a really great Vegas casino. Definitely check it out. Jeanne

All we can say is wow ......we paid about $14 a person for what we thought was going to be a good all you can eat buffett and ended up eating maybe 1/8 of the food we got on our first and only plate before deciding that it wasn't very good at all. Most of the food was very bland and the food that did have flavor tasted like it had been sitting out for a few hours ....cold and rubber like. Complained to the manager and he still made us pay for half of the meal even though we didn't eat it . Needless to say we will never go back ....and do not recommend this place to anyone that wants a good dinner or lunch. I'd rather drive north to Buca di Beppo and know that I am going to enjoy the food than try to swallow the "Gourmet "sludge from this place again . Our first clue should have been the lack of cars in the parking lot at 6:30-7 pm

The food was excellent. Though it is a buffet style resturant they do a good job of making it fresh. The sausage and peppers were fantastic. The drink menu is small but effective with $2 mamosas. The atmosphere is cheesy but the wait staff was attentive and professional. We will go back

I'm surprised at all the positive reviews for Cannoli Joe's. I drive by it all the time and have been wanting to visit for a while now, as I love good ol' Italian comfort food. I was wildly disappointed. The service was very good, both the hostess and the waiter were attentive, friendly, and helpful. But the food was not good. I am a vegetarian, so I did not try any of the meat dishes, but I tried everything else that they had and it just wasn't good. The worst part was that all of it was cold and had definitely been sitting out for a while. I went toward the end of their lunch time, but still, if your whole concept involves a buffet style spread, you need to find a way to keep the food at least slightly warm! The mozzarella sticks would have been good if they had been warm, and there was a white spinach and mushroom pizza that also would have been good if warm, but they weren't good cold. The salads, which should have been cold, were not, and they were soggy and the dressings were clearly from a giant jar. Basically all of the food tasted like cafeteria Italian--overcooked pasta, bland sauces, and glue like texture. Even the breadsticks were bad--half the ones on offer hadn't been cooked all the way through, and all of the garlic bread in both baskets had been overcooked and was hard as rocks.

My critieria for all Italian restaurants is simple--could I make it better at home? In the case of Cannoli Joe's, I think anyone who knows how to boil water and set a timer could make a better bowl of pasta, and at least it would be warm! Save your cash and skip this place, or at least go during one of their "rush" times so you'll know your food hasn't been out on the counter congealing for two hours.

WE WENT AS A GROUP FROM OUR OFFICE AND WE REALLY LOVED NOT ONLY THE SERVICE BUT THE ATMOSPHERE, I HAVE NEVER REALLY LIKED ITALIAN FOOD THAT MUCH, BUT THESE WERE FOODS THAT I REALLY LOVED, THE FIRE GRILLED PEPPERS AND VEGETABLES, THE SALADS, THE PASTAS AND THE DESSERTS WERE ALL GREAT, I LOVED THEIR FLAVORED TEAS AND AS FOR THE PRICES I DID NOT THINK THAT THEY WERE EXPENSIVE AS MOST OF THE PLACES I HAVE BEEN TO IN AUSTIN ARE TOO HIGHLY PRICED FOR THE VALUE OR TASTE OF THEIR MEALS, I FOUND THAT THIS ONE RESTAURANT IS WORTH THE PRICE (WHICH IS LESS THAN MOST) AND I COULD PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT I WANTED TO EAT....IT WAS DELICIOUS AND I WILL RETURN AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE...

My husband and I have only eat here once so far. There's plenty of parking and seating. We enjoyed just walking around the restaurant looking at the decor. We could not believe the variety of foods they have to offer on their buffet. It's way too much to try everything during one visit, but we gave it our best shot. Most dishes we found to be good, but there were some that wasn't to our liking. It does costs more than other buffets, but overall we liked our first visit.

My husband and I went on a Friday night recently. I went in having low expectations, knowing it was a buffet style restaurant and in my experience this usually means a wide variety of mediocre food, usually overpriced because of all the waste that is taken into account. Keeping that in mind, I wasn't really disappointed. I was actually pleasantly surprised with a lot of the dishes, and I appreciated that the "chefs" put out small, fresh quantities of everything instead of enormous troughs. We had fun sampling all the different kinds of food, though there was too much to be able to try it all in one visit. Some of our favorites were pasta dishes, like Rigatoni Primavera, Pasta Rossa, and Fire Roasted Vegetable Lasagna. I also really liked the rotisserie chicken, and the meatloaf with balsamic glaze. Some of the vegetables that stood out were the broccoli limone, the butternut squash, and the summer squash. All the salads where pretty good, and the little mushroom toasts were delicious.
Some of the disappointing dishes include the pizza, the grilled marsala steak, and the mashed potatoes which looked amazing, but were actually the most fake tasting I've ever had. Also, most of the desserts looked and tasted like they came off the back of a frozen truck. I suppose they figure people will be way too stuffed to pay much attention to dessert, which is probably true, but still! My husband loved the chocolate hazelnut bread pudding, at any rate. I myself vowed that if we ever returned, I would skip the dessert line all together and instead help myself to generous portions of the fruit salad Macedonia from the salad section. It was one of the most memorable things I tasted there, and a much more Italian way of ending a meal, anyway. If i were to go back I would choose to go on a lunch or week night visit, when it is not quite so expensive. It would be a fun place to bring a large party of people.

My boyfriend and I went to Cannoli Joe's for the first time tonight. Being a weekday evening, it was rather calm and quiet, which is what we prefer. The service here was great. Within seconds of being seated by the hostess, our waiter greeted our table and took our drink orders.

The set-up of the buffet is very unique and unlike most buffet restaurants. Each section has a clear theme and a wide variety of specialty foods. All dishes are prepared in small batches and are labeled above the selection. You can actually watch the chefs prepare the dishes behind the buffet line. For the price ($12.99 weekday dinner) we got a fantastic value. The food is incredibly flavorful, and they definitely don't skimp on quality ingredients. My boyfriend and I tried to take a sample of every dish available, but by the time we got 3/4 way through, we were completely stuffed. Some dishes were so-so and others were definite winners. Their pastas were a highlight for both me and my boyfriend. Desserts featured were bread pudding, apple crumble, chocolate covered strawberries, and other petite sweets. The dessert section also has a great selection of ice creams that are personally scooped by someone behind the counter.

All in all, our experience at Cannoli Joe's leaves us wanting to come back for more. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive, the ambiance was enjoyable, and the food left us with a great impression. 100% recommend this restaurant.

The service was bad, the food was overpriced, and the quality of the food was sub par. The food was uninspired, bland, and tasted like it was made with mediocre ingredients and then sat out for far too long under heat lamps- which it probably had. Things were soggy that should have been crispy, dried out when they shouldn't have been, overcooked, and generally just unappealing. If you're the kind of person who thinks a quality restaurant means eating until you're sick, then this place is for you. If you have any interest in the taste or quality of the food going into your mouth, go to almost any other restaurant in town and you're going to have a better experience (including most of the other big chains, sadly).

This is truly one of the best deals in town! Forget endless salad and breadsticks! How about endless grilled steak marsala and homemade gnocchi! And the food tastes much better than I expected for a buffet style concept. The chefs prepare everything in small batches so everything I tried was fresh and yummy. We went later in the evening so the place was less crowded (I heard that it can get packed right at dinner time). My wife had a frozen bellini swirl which I tried and it was excellent. I opted for wine and had an Italian primitivo which was very good. There were many good Italian choices in the wine list.

I recommend the braised beef dish with mushrooms. I also had a grilled salmon dish over orzo that was as good or better than what I have had at some of Austin's most expensive trattorias. The white pizza was very tasty and the spicy broccoli was a nice side dish.

We tried several of the desserts and I liked the fact that they had several different flavored cannolis. The coconut macaroons were awesome. This is a truly unique concept. I will be taking my in-laws from NY here next time they come in town.

BTW, our server's name was Andy, and he was excellent. Very helpful and congenial. Better service than I have received in some "fine dining" establishments. To top it all off we had cappucinos and they serve real Italian coffee! in South Austin no less!! Who woulda thunk it?

I was surprised to read the last review regarding Cannoli Joes...I absolutely love the place. Ive been three times, (last Sunday with a very good friend) and have been blown away by the food and the atmosphere. The place is amazing..with several different theme rooms. I think I'm kind of an expert on this kind of food..because I spent hours cooking with my Italian Grandmother and have been to Italy several times. The salads are light and fresh. They appear to be prepared often and were fresh seasoned well. The grilled peppers and vegetables were juicy . I really liked the beef with portobello mushrooms and meatballs are made just the way they're prepared in Italy. My favorite pasta is the chicken marsala...I was so full I didn't have room to try others! (I guess they make the food in small quantities, and that's why it tastes fresh and just prepared.)
I loved the cannolis with the chips in them...not to sugary... the real thing. We had a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio for a great price..good little wine selection! (My friend got a plate of food to go for her boyfriend..he loved it..and this guy has eaten in the best restaurants around the globe!!!)
It was two hours of really good food and lots to look at. I'm bringing a group of 12 this Sunday night .

It started off with a great welcome ,good ambience, very tuscany feel. Actually a great concept. Unfortunately the food didn't live up to the standards. It was the worst italian food i ever tasted. Lets start with salads: nothing really looked fresh and they were suprisingly greasy. The soup tasted like a canned tomato sauce. The next thing PIZZA was the worst of all. None of the grilled foods were juicy . Everything was dry and meat was tough.
The pastas were horrible. No salt no flavor. The alfredo was the worst of all. Moving onto desserts Tiramusu was no where like Tiramusu . Canolies the star of the restaurant didn't taste good at all. Unfortunately nothing was likeable except for things like bread sticks and maybe salmon. All in all it was a great dissapointment. Above all 15.99 for that kind of stuff is way to high . Frankly he can change if he changes his chefs. I am sorry i am sounding really hard but you need honest opinion to eat good food. But if you are the kind of person who will enjoy heated frozen food this is the place for you.

I had been waiting to try out this restaurant since it opened, once I had the oppurtunity however, I wished that I hadn't. The atmosphere was great and the wait staff was very friendly, but the prices and food quality were a different story. I would have been happy to pay the Sunday dinner price (16.99 or 17.99 per person) had the food been satisfactory, but everything tasted old and flavorless. The dessert table looked amazing when we entered but none of the desserts they offered were actually edible. The pastries were hard and bland. The pizza was tasty, but for 30 some odd dollars we could have bought three pizzas. Overall I felt sorry about spending the money on a less than mediocre meal.

This place has it all -- lots of different foods that appeal to adults and kids. My kids love it especially the Sicilian carrots and the chocolate fountain! I like the salad bar, polenta and pasta dishes. Hubby loves the grilled vegetables. My kids and their friends at school all rave about this restaurant. They've done a tremendous job with the decor, and they have an accordion player on Sundays.

Pros: Good Italian Buffet

Cons: Not Italian Continental, just basic Italian

Just came back an hour ago and this is the first restaurant in Austin that amazes your eyes with the wonderful decor. Don't get me wrong, the food is top notch and very high end. But the scenery is like nothing I have ever seen before. It was pretty cool that my kids got to eat free, but man I am coming back to take my wife out on a date. They have this romantic, nook of a room called the Wine Cellar that I plan to sit at next. Great to see more classy restaurants like this coming to town.

Pros: Price, food, decor, ambience

Cons: I wish they had a second location in Bastrop

The Chicken Marsala was very delicious! The pasta was a unique construction and really held the sauce.
The Frangelica bread pudding was very good. The green beans were al dente and broccoli was prepared properly which is bright green and firm. The meatloaf was on the sweet side with the sauce but still surprisingly nice. The beef was a little too down for my taste. The sausage & lentil soup seemed a bit off. I prefer my lentils. We didn't try any pizza but it looked nice. The sausage and grilled peppers were very nice. All in all, for a buffet, we enjoyed our visit. This place is great for families and office parties and picky eaters!

I had reservatiions about going to an all-you-can-eat Italian restaurant, but I have to say I was very surprised by the quality of the food, ambience, and service. They have a great assortment of freshly made salads and many good pasta dishes. They have a grilled steak dish with a tasty marsala sauce. The dessert selection was also better than any buffet I have seen other than in Vegas or on a cruise ship. All of this for $12.99? I don't know how these are making money, but i do know that I am not going to Olive Garden anymore.

Upon arrival expectations were high. Crowd was low and very few little kids there. I started at the beginning of the line and got a little bit of everything. Most of the food was semi-cold. The cheese sticks were spongy. The entire food selection was lacking flavor and salt. The Chicken Parmesan was exactly as you get at Sams Food Club. The salad bar was lame. The only salad available was Caesar?s. No option of making your own. No choice of dressing. Their bread selection was horrible. Every piece was rock hard. Last but not least the dessert bar was lacking SUGAR. I swear they left out ingredients and seasoning out of everything. The cannoli's looked so good with little chocolate chips pieces. Now I know they are suppose to have Ricotta cheese tradtionally, but on a dessert bar they should have SUGAR, at least filled with pudding. I also tried some Pistachio ice cream, which had some type of green jelly bits in it..gross. How do you mess up ice cream? Most everything was like being at a Casino Buffet. Cheap food, high prices, bad taste.

I would also swear they add some type of hormone to the food to fill you up, because after the first plate I was getting stuffed, with nothing good. They probably do that to keep the little kids from wasting too much or something.

I really though for $15.99 each the food would be hot and at least taste OK. Stick with Olive garden or better yet Spaghetti Warehouse. Knowing that it was owned by County Line, I would have expected better. County Line better stick to BBQ.

I went to eat lunch a little bit after 12 noon on July 4, 2007. A friend of mine had recommended it to me, so I decided to give it a try. I'm familiar with the location, as there used to be a Wolfe's Nursery on the same spot. Anyway, as you enter the place, you can tell that the owners put a lot of effort and $$ into creating a lovely building and thus a very nice ambiance. You are asked your zip code (so they can tell where their customers come from) inside. There is a very short wait as the host person takes you to where your table awaits. The front desk has a cool graphic of the restaurant's tables to indicate which tables are occupied. The host will ask you if you've been there before. This was my first time, so the host explained the different areas as we go to my table. I got a cool room in the back. It had all sorts of photos and artwork from earlier times. There are candelabras in the room and a faux fireplace. The waiter took my drink order (raspberry tea) and I went to get my plate to start eating. So you know, the plates are somewhat small (I guess to prevent overeating?) I had two slices of pepperoni pizza, a portion of Eggplant Parmesan, two delicious meatballs with a serving of spaghetti, garlic mashed potatoes, a couple of breadsticks and a small cannoli. To top that off, I had a serving of chocolate ice cream. Aside from the food and great service, I was enthralled listening to the piped-in music: Dean Martin, Italian themed music, instrumentals, etc. I love that type of music. Too bad I don't understand Italian , so I could better enjoy some of the music. There is plenty of parking and the landscaping around the place is well-maintained. The prices are reasonable for the variety of food that is available to customers. The waiter, Isaac, demonstrated great customer service and asked me every once in a while if I needed anything. Overall, a fantastic experience. Highly recommended. Two big thumbs up!

This place is a buffet style italian joint - slightly up-scale. Small plates keep the kiddos from grabbing too much. You'd think with those two comments, this place would stink, but actually - its pretty good. The chief cook, or whoever cam up with the recipes, has a clue. Not the best italian you'll ever eat by any means, but a great deal for the price. A good place for kids, and if you dont want to be around kids - dont come. During lunch, during the week however, not a bad place to do business lunch. Dont come here for the power meeting though. Its a cool idea - and more power to the owners who though it up.

Pros: good food. quick. cheap.

Cons: loud (with the kids). ambience is a bit lacking.

I had low expectations going in. I generally do not like all-you-can eat places. However, the food quality was outstanding for this type of restaurant. Good variety of foods, all made in small batches so they are fresh and hot.

Was looking for an early and quick meal tonight but didn't know what I really wanted. I'd been to Canoli Joe's for lunch with some friends a month ago and thought I'd go back. Arrived at 6:30pm and had no problem getting seated immediately with the restaurant about 2/3 full. Started with 2 different salads, the Caesar (well dressed, not too dry) and the Greek (marinated tomatoes, calamata olives, cucumber, chunks of feta cheese, etc etc) and a piece of their white sauce pizza. Also tasted some of the marsala steak.

Ordered one of the "Caesaritas" and proceeded to munch out. The rita is similar to that "Mexican Martini" of Cedar Door fame and was smoother than most I've had with enough for 3, maybe 4 pours. Second round was Pasta, Lasagna and fish which were all quite tasty. Also had a slice of their Pepperoni pizza with Jalapenos, nice bite without burning your face off.

Finished off with the coconut macaroons (bottom is dipped in chocolate) and a piece of their version of Italian Cream Cake that is lighter and flavored with amaretto. Snacked around and snuck out with another macaroon for a late night snack.

Summary of the meal and my take on the dinner dining experiences, 1. Steak and the pastas were on par with anything I've had at other similar Italian restaurants in town (OG, Carrabas, Johnny Carinos Bucca DP, etc etc) This is NOT Siena, but for the range of items and the overall quality, a value. 2 The macaroons are the best dessert item, not too sweet or creamy, just a nice flavor to finish a meal. 3. Park on the north side of the building, less crowed and an easier exit.

In all, a place I would go with a group so you don't have to pick one thing to eat and the atmosphere is casual. Appeared to be popular with families with kids, but was not whacked out with noise since I was off in a quiet room, reading my newspaper. Well done example of a buffet offering without it being a boring cafeteria.

I didn't have high expectations coming in, but I have to say that everything that I tasted was excellent. There are so many selections, it will take multiple visits for me to try everything, but I will definitely be going back. Some unique selctions on the pizza, I had one with feta cheese and mushrooms. The salads and antipastos were also excellent. Make sure to save room for dessert, the chocolate dipped coconut macaroons were awesome. All of this for only $12.99, this is definitely one of the best deals in Austin.
