On Saturday, my cat became scared and bit me. I went to the ER to have the wound cleaned properly. They were more concerned with calling animal control.

My cat was taken to the shelter for rabies quarantine.

First of all, these creeps don't answer their phones. Even after leaving messages, it took me many tries to raise anyone.

I was told it was State Law. It turns out it's City. LIE
I was told they would only feed her the food I sent with her. LIE
They told me the rabies vaccine isn't effective. LIE

I don't even know if they FED my cat in the two days she was there. I got all the food I sent with her back, unused. They wouldn't tell me if they'd even fed her. Just "Have a nice day, Ma'am."

I was assured that they treat their animals as they'd like their own to be treated. If that's the case, then they must be pretty awful to their animals.

DO NOT send or allow your animal to be taken to this dump.

We had a cat that would come in our yard and i ended up feeding it for quite some time. She ended up having babies and took care of them till they were almost ten weeks. I tried every which way to find homes for them but noone i knew wanted one, after calling several no-kill shelters who all said they were full i decided to go with Garland Animal Control. They were really nice on the phone and said they would find the mama and the babies all good homes so i let them have them all except one baby. Well my husband and I decided we would like to spay, get her shots etc. for mama and i called that night and left a voicemail saying we would like to do just that. Well the next morning they called me back and said they already euthinized her very rudely. I just couldn't belive they did it so quickly and were so rude about it. I will never go back to this place again and i can only imagine the fate of the kittens! My advice to others is go anywhere before you chose this place, they are heartless liars!

Diane Oates is long past the point where she should have been fired. Garland is nothing but a killing machine. They NEVER answer their phones....guess they are too busy killing dogs that have a rescue to go to.

Adopted a young male cat from the shelter, then when I returned him to them to be neutered, the vet went to lunch and left him unattended under anesthesia. He died with nobody there. I tried to save a life by adopting him, and they kill him with neglect.

Garland Animal Shelter is a very high kill GASSING Shelter because it is so poorly managed by the shelter manager - Diane Oates. She hates volunteers and rescue group helping the animals who are captured there. Seems like she only wants all the animals entering there go straight to the Gas Chambers. She has made it very hard for rescue groups or volunteers to be there because she does not want the world to know about the very inhumane practices they have over there. These poor animals are treated so inhumanely without giving them a chance for adoption. These animals are much safer outside the Garland Shelter than in that shelter because it is HELL for them. Pls anyone who is reading this, DO NOT abandon your dogs. Pls be responsible to drop it off at a no-kill Shelter? Richardson shelter is a safe haven for these animals but Garland Animal Shelter is HELL!!! PLS DO NOT DROP YOUR DOGS THERE!!!

My boxer got loose and they had picked him up. He was only there over night and I picked him up the next morning. I had to pay $65 to get him out and prove I had all of his shots witch is fine, but when I got him out he came in contact with kennel cough so I took him to our vet in rowlett and got him antibiotics and then a week later he kept scratching, keep in mind I bathed him as soon as i got him home. Took him to the vet he has Demodex witch it can develop into a condition called Demodectic Mange. He is now on antibiotics for a month. Total cost from just going to the pound for not even 12 hours.
- $65.00 to get him out
- $105.00 Kennel cough and treatment from the shelter
- $105.00 Demodex / Demodectic Mange from the shelter
----------------------
-$275.00

Thank you Garland Animal Shelter

ATTENTION STAKE HOLDERS!!!!!

Did you know ---- Garland, TX uses the GAS CHAMBER to KILL the neglected, unwanted, abused, sick, elderly and innocent?

Recent investigations have proven what many have suspected and known for years. There is currenty a grassroots movement underway in this city and citizens are demanding changes be made at the citys animal shelter also known as GAS.

Residents and animal advocates have voiced concerns for years and have repeatedly been brushed off by city officials. My family has personally experienced this treatment.

The taxpayers of Garland have also been treated inhumane! We the people V O T E D for those that are currently presiding over our CITY and they must be held accountable.

I encourage you to demand what you pay for and make your presence and expectations known.

Using the GAS chamber is only one of many issues. The shelters management does not utilize volunteers. The shelters management does not work with animal advocates and rarely utilities the hundreds of rescues groups that want to help and save the animals from what we all know to be inhumane and horrific death.

We had a mama opossum walking around our parking lot this morning. Resistor Hats at 601 Marion . The animal control officer was quick to respond and carefully - took them away to safe grounds. She had 8 babies hanging on for dear life. People here at work wanted to kill her. Kim Pierce and I would not have it.thank you officer for taking her to safe grounds.

I think the biggest shame in this shelter besides the fact they are killing animals is that there is not enough time once the animal is approved for adoption for anyone to know that they are even there.People that go to the shelters are trying to find homes for these animals but three or four days is not enough time. I also think it is a crime to charge people 85 dollars to rescue an animal and save its life. I have seen people leave and go to the Richardson shelter because they could not afford to save a dog at this shelter. Require that they have the animal spayed or neutered but do not refuse anyone willing to give the animal a home. Where is the heart of the people running this place or the people involved in decision making? I do not think there is one.

The shelter has to come up with some criteria to put dogs down because they get so many and don't have enough room. That is why they choose "aggressive" breeds and sick animals to put down first. The real problem is overpopulation and not enough funding from the city, so people refusing to donate because they put dogs down doesn't make any sense. If they had more money, they wouldn't have to put as many dogs down.

This city is breed-discriminate which means that just because a dog is considered one of the "aggressive" breeds - it's not able to be adopted. Their kennels are always full and they don't care if the dog is the sweetest, most wonderful thing ever - if it falls on one of the "dangerous" lists then it has no chance unless it's owner finds it within 5 days. It's a shame and I've refused to ever help finance or provide supplies for this shelter until they change their ways.
