The people that seem to write reviews rarely go out to eat and usually are the worst tippers. Every restaurant has a slow time and things don't go the way they are suppose to. I've had my bad time at restaurant but don't go online and bash

My 9-year-old wanted to go to PF Changs, and I succumbed, even after a horrible experience in August. (The rice was served undercooked and the noodles were hard as a rock and certainly not fresh. We had to send them back.) Well, we went

I can't understand the bad reviews I'm reading here! We love the downtown Portland P.F.Chang's! We'd not been since moving out of downtown a year and a half ago (too busy discovering new places in the wonderful NE), so we were surprised when we first went back a few weeks ago to discover an amazingly busy happy hour in full swing. All the appetizers were half price and there were great discounts on wine, beer and a couple drinks. We were there for dinner, but ordered a happy hour appetizer and discounted wines at the bar while we waited for our booth -- don't miss the salt & pepper calamari! The bartender probably could have been friendlier, but he was awfully busy, and he wasn't unpleasant or anything.

Our waiter and busboy were fun and friendly and, even though it was past happy hour cutoff, we were charged happy hour prices on our second glasses of wine, which was a happy surprise. Our dinners came out in good time and they were wonderful. HIGHLY recommend the Kung Pao Scallops and the Sichaun Beef.

We went back for happy hour last week and were equally pleased. The lettuce wraps are so good I could have them every night, and the ribs were delicious too. As has always been our experience there, the service was wonderful, everyone we came in contact with was friendly and enjoyable, and we had a great time. It might not be the best place to go if you're in a hurry, or if you're hoping to have an intimate evening, but the place is lively and busy and fun. And the food is really terrific.

Pros: Very happy dining experience

Cons: True, it's noisy and busy, but that's not all bad.

When we arrived at the restaurant there was no host present at the front station. Not a big deal so we waited. When the host finally arrived, he was rude and acted as he was doing us some huge favor by seating us. As we sat at the table waiting for the server we noticed that there was a basketball game being shown at the bar so we decided to move just as the server came over. She openly complained about our decision to move. Not exactly the professional demeanor one would expect. Once we got settled at the bar it didn??t take long to realize that the bartender was slow and incompetent. The drinks took just over fifteen minutes to arrive and my Manhattan was screwed up. The restaurant wasn??t busy and they were clearly overstaffed at the moment so there appeared to be little reason for the delay. He had made an ingredient substitution, of squeezed orange for bitters, without even checking to see if it was okay or ask if we might want to order something else instead since they were out of bitters. The food was served quickly and overall quality was fine, mediocre as to be expected given the kind of high-end mall food they strive to be. Our payment was in the form of gift cards that were a holiday present. The bartender took the cards and twenty dollars cash, since we wanted change for a tip, without even asking how we wanted to pay. We were given back twenty dollars in change with no word as to what happened to the gift cards. We asked the bartender what happened to the cards and he had no information on the twelve dollar balance we had on the last gift card. The bartender called someone over, who I can only assume was a poorly dressed manager that assumed we were drunk. The manager basically told us we were out the twelve dollars due to the nature of the gift cards but assured us that the bartender would get the balance as the tip. At that point we just left. It wasn??t worth our time or energy to pursue the matter with someone that clearly didn??t have a grasp of customer service. This was a unique first impression to a lackluster food chain that is a sad wart on the Portland Pearl District and I can??t wait for the day when I see their space vacant with a ??For Lease? sign on it. DON??T EAT HERE.

Pros: We didn't get E. Coli

Cons: Terrible service and mediocre overpriced food.

Last night was horrible. We arrived for dinner and found the restaurant half empty. There was a large party that consisted of five tables pushed together and three rounds. Where did we get seated? Right next to the party. We could have been seated anywhere else in the restaurant, but no. We couldn't even hear each other talk. We ordered the lettuce wraps to start, of course. When those came out we ordered our entrees. So there we are, about half way done with our lettuce wraps and out come the entrees! Why do they always insist on doing this here? Are the servers serving skills that retarded? Entrees get cold. Entrees should be served after the appetizers have been consumed. I don't get why this establishment insists on making you feel rushed. They weren't even busy. It's not like they needed us to eat fast so they could seat someone else at our table. Anyway, I've always meant to write a review concerning the early entrees. I haven't. When they sat us next to the party last night I decided to finally write this. The food is pretty good. I do like it. The servers are usually a lot of fun. It just doesn't seem like the management manages the flow of guests or food very well.

My friends and I went out the other night, there was about four of us. We started with dinner at pf changs, let me tell you I had a great time! Our server Bear was outstanding! He definitely made our dinner experience memorable. He was attentive and made great reccomendations, he got us started on some awesome appetizers and great specialty cocktails. The food is great, the service was phenomenal!

We had a birthday lunch here today and the wait person was mediocre -- forgetting the birthday, clanging the dishes on and off the table, bumping into people, and leaning over them: one of our party had this person's armpit in her face through 1/3 of the meal! -- the food was excellent and we all just felt that the wait person really needed someone to give him some feedback and a little training. When the manager was informed, she was immediately and generously responsive. What could have left us with an unhappy feeling turned into good feelings because we all felt that they had done the right thing.

When we are in the mood for Chinese food this is where we go! The chicken lettuce wraps are a must to start off the meal and we almost always get the garlic noodles. They have a great selection of vegetarian dishes also which is great when dining with friends or a group of people. The servers have always been very nice and helpful and because of them we have tried a few dishes we might not have otherwise.

Had never been here before our friends took us before a Pink Martini concert. Really good food (loved the ground meat in cabbage roll) but it is a little pricey. Probably should leave the kids at home for this one. A good evening for the mister and missus. Romantic place since it's kinda dark. Very cool though!

I went to the Hillsboro Branch of P.F. Chang's expecting somewhat authentic Chinese cuisene. Unfortunately this was not the case. First off, we had to wait more than an hour for a table in the overly crowded, dark atmosphere. Once we were seated we were unable to enjoy ourselves as the heavy rock music was way too loud. Already disappointed with our wait, we ordered tea and our entrees. The tea was not all that. It was just the same old Lipton tea bags we drink everyday priced at double what it should be. After another long wait we got soup which was prepared ahead of time. The entrees were the biggest dissapointment. We asked not to have salt in our entree but of course, since everthing was pre-made, our order was not considered. Priced at over $10.50 each, they were small portions comparable to what I get at the neighborhood take-out place for $7-$8.
If you want give your family a nice restaurant experience, do NOT go to PF Chang's. Everything about it from it's tasteless food to booming rock music was completely forgettable.
I'd rather give business to the take-out place. You don't have to wait, the prices are low, and the portions are great.

Panda Express food at Sungari prices. The only thing it has going for it above Panda Express is a more hip and trendy atmosphere, but it's certainly not worth the extra money. If you want good Chinese food go somewhere else.

Everyone I knew raved about this place when It first came to our area. It wasn't as good as I was expecting but it was good. The service was not so good. There was dried food on my silverware and when I told the waiter he brought me a new set but didn't say sorry or anything. It seemed he was in a rush to get us out of there. I actually had to ask about desert it wasn't offered. I filled out a comment card there though and I did get a letter about a week letter apologizing for the service. Overall average I guess.

Dime a dozen, and the food tastes like it. How do you cook the same dish at hundreds of locations across America and allow it to have any character? The decor is tacky, and over the top. Granted, some of the food does taste good--just as a MacDonald's quarter-pounder can taste good. But with all the REALLY good, authentic Chinese restaurants in Portland, why settle?

I made reservations a week in advance for my birthday. Our reservations were for 8:00. We show up at 7:45 and do not get seated until almost 9:00. We sit and the waitress doesnt even greet us. She starts telling us How we MUST order just to make it easier on her (exact words) And then she starts complaining because there has to be seperate checks for some of us. I order my drink. It took her about 20 minutes to return with it. She complains that we are not ordering fast enough or doing as she told us to. Umm dont i get to decide what i want to order? So we order our food. It comes out. The food was way overpriced for the amout you get. The food was burnt, and did not taste good at all. i would rather have ate at panda express than P.F. Changs. Then we were rushed to eat our food and pay our tab. And tells us that 18 percent gratuity was automatically added and that we could leave more. Since when do you ask for tips? Over all it was the worse experience for me at a restaurant. I will NEVER go back there. Its not at all what some people have said. A big dissapointment. very loud. could not hear anyone talking. overheard some of the employees cursing and complaining about customers. not cool

There was a time when P.F. Chang's was a true "special night out"--say in the mid-90's when the chain first opened its' doors(in Denver). Upon a return to the NW Portland location recently, I was more than disappointed. This is an over-hyped, over-priced excuse for a restaurant that ultimately saddened me.
Is this really what suburban America thinks of when choosing "fine Asian" cuisine, as evidenced by the packed house? I certainly hope not. Our food was overcooked and overseasoned, prepared by non-native cooks whose interest was anything but quality. The out-of-the-bag, cold texture to the spring rolls and crab cheese wontons was unfortunate, and the main dishes left me feeling like a trip to the local Chinese eatery would have been well served. While the service was well-intentioned, he lacked any real ability to handle food service at a most basic level. Sloppy, forgetful, overbearing, and terse.
P.F. Changs could be great; but nonetheless its' offerings rank among those eateries all around us that have given in to corporate boards and the bottom line.

We love PF Changs! I know there are some negative reviews on here about the place, but I have never been disappointed by it. The food is a little spendy, but this isn't Panda Express! This is Chinese-American infused food that isn't greasy and has some unique spins on traditional dishes. We love the one in Hillsboro, as it's always been easy to get a table and the waitstaff is more than accomadating. I have been to the one downtown and it can be very noisy during the dinner hour, because of the way the tables are so out in the open and the ceilings are very high. The famous lettuce wraps live up to their hype, with just enough spice to tickle the sinuses, but not too much to overwhelm the flavor. The chicken dishes are tender and juicy and the beef is tangy and moist. The only dish that was medeocre was a sea scallops concoction that fell a little flat. The drinks are PF Changs only downfall, they are poured pretty weak and not that good. One of our waiters even told us to order wine or beer if we wanted drinks because the cocktails fall flat.

First, let me say that the chicken lettuce wraps from the appetizer menu are fantastic. The other dishes I've tried don't hold the same appeal, however.. this is definitely a step above Panda Express, but doesn't qualify in my book as the best Chinese food I've ever eaten. I've both ordered take out, and eaten in, and I can't recommend either. I've experienced exhausting waits for the take out to be prepared, but neither do I like the very loud and very crowded seating area in the restaurant. The decor is beautiful and trendy, but I don't enjoy having to bump into other diners' tables when trying to get to mine, nor do I enjoy struggling to hear my dining companions over the noise that rivals the level of a school cafeteria.

Went to the Hillsboro store yesterday. What a huge dissappointment! I didn't mind the dark crowded retaurant, or the almost annoying over the top service;i.e. set your waterglass down and almost every time "water-boy" is there to top it off. The "at your table" sauce mixing was pointless. But the worst was the food. The Calamari looked like something Ore-Ida would sell to bake in your oven. Bland, and not a tentacle in sight. Spicy Chicken was way sweeter than Spicy and, again, bland. The only dish that I'd even stick a chopstick in again was the "Sichuan from the Sea Shrimp". Not great, but at least something reasonably edible. The fact that my mom thinks it's the best Chinese she's had should have been a red flag, as a small amount of Black Pepper will send her into hot flashes.

There are too many negative reviews and I must defend P.F. Changs. I have discerning tastebuds and I'm telling you, it's yummy! It's a chain restaurant, please do not go expecting some sort of cultural experience. It's reasonably priced (and I'm a student, you cheapskates), the service is sub par- but the food is always good. Go for the lettuce wraps- they are the best thing on the menu. The chicken ones are probably good, but I would not know. Also very good is the orange peel shrimp. The kung pao is too salty. Oh, and if you order a Hurricane the little umbrella is turned inside out on the rim of your drink. Haha. So clever. You might have to wait, but if you care so much you should go to Denny's or something people.

Pros: food, atmosphere, food

Cons: too much salt, always busy, chain

.

What a disappointment! I can't believe it is so crowded. The food was tastless and in very small portions but it certainly wasn't skimpy when it came to the check. Grossly over priced! And crowded and noisy and...... surfice it to say - we wouldn't go back on a bet.

Had dinner at 5:30 p m. on a weekday. Read all the reviews before going to dinner. Did not find it as bad as the negative reviews or as good as the extremely positive reviews. Right in the middle with the food and the beverages. Wait staff was plesant and helpful. Resturant was not full but it looked like everyone would have room if it was. We sat in one of the booths around the upper edge and were able to look down on the little people seated in the middle of the establishment. You will like the view from up there also. It is a who you know kind of thing.

Wonderful food, terrific wait staff and good ambience. The food was served
family style for the entrees and this made it possible to try many different things.
We each ordered a different entree and then sampled them all. What a great idea,
especially for the first time at a restaurant. Found all dishes very tasty!

Made reservations, but still waited 20 minutes to be seated. Our seats were next to the servers station, and they kept bumping my husband's chair, one server bumped him so hard, it move his chair 3 inches, and he never apologized. We order a bottle of wine and appetizers. The appetizers were brought to us before the wine. When we asked the food runner about our wine, his reply was "I only bring out the food." Finally, we had enough, and my husband spoke to the Manager, and he moved us to another table. We got our wine, and they brought us a new appetizer, which took an additional 20 minutes. The main course was just so-so! They had also charged us twice for the appetizer on the bill. In short the never again! The service was bad and the food was okay.

I am disappointed but should not be considering this is a chain restaurant serving up overpriced, bland, Americanized, Chinese food. I ordered a simple enough dish that arrived swimming in a pool of oil. It was not spicy as it should have been and no amount of added table salt improved it. Hard to imagine that this is possible, but even the rice was bad. Never again!

P.F. Chang's - a trendy chain restaurant new to the area. I've gone to one for years in Colorado and was pleased to see this one built. We've been a couple of times and have enjoyed ourselves. But, I highly advise you call ahead for seating. The seating manager (I don't know his title in restaurant lingo) was clearly playing favorites the night we were in. We waited for 35 minutes while he shuffled some of his friends and those who knew how to "play" the game in front of us.

So, be careful and you may have to make sure they notice you're waiting for a seat. Don't let them do the same to you.

Wait service was okay. Nothing exceptional. Food is good and it's a fun atmosphere. Probably a little pricey for the whole package.

This restaurant is perfect for a first date. It has great, artfully presented dishes. A sheek contemporary atmosphere perfect for the Pearl District. Food comes quickly, service staff is friendly and personable. Reasonably priced and plates aren't overly heaping with filler food. Just enough.

I've driven an hour and paid for parking many times in Portland, and have also been to PF Changs in Scottsdale, and have had consistently great lettuce wraps, good food and great service! Our waiter forgot the fortune cookies one night and when we mentioned it, he brought us a heaping handful! Great humor! Great service EVERY time!

Finally tried PF Changs the other day and was disappointed. The food was mediocre at best and for the quantity we received was over priced, but I guess someone has to pay for the decor. Had stopped by many times and the wait was unseeingly long, usually close to an hour. I now think many people go there to pose as it certainly isnt for decent Chinese food. If you want authentic Chinese food and a cocktail that has a punch go see Mary at the Republic Cafe in Chinatown.

I've been to P.F Changs Portland and Hillsboro. P.F. Changs offers tasty and affordable food. Appetizers: soothing chicken lettuce wraps (you can try the vegetarian version, delicious!) are always good, or the shang hai street dumplings. The wonton soup is incredible. My favorite main dishes are Kung Pao Shrimp, the duck served w/warm buns, plum sauce, and a side of cucumbers, don't forget the savory cashew chicken. For dessert the banana spring rolls served with cocunut ice cream is incredible! Changs also offers options any vegetarian would love. For those weight watchers out there, they have a "training table" option. There's an assortment of teas that you must try: the oolong.
P.F. Changs works for anyone who loves Chinese food with a fine dining twist.
The one bad thing is the service is inconsistent, and sometimes unfriendly at best.
Bottomline: Great Chinese food, great price. Watch out for the service.

PF's is a national chain. As a chain, it tries to appeal to the most middle audience possible to draw in the big crowds. Unfortunately, this seems to result in average food as to not excite the sensitive pallet. I've been to PF's a couple of times now and I can't say that any dish stood out in my mind as particularly bad or good. There are far too many restaurants in Portland that do stand out, however, so why settle for mediocre? Just for the fancy, high-cost corporate atmosphere and the servers who are trained to be so sickeningly sweet that I have to pass on the sweets? No thanks.

Very poor service and second bad PF Changs experience. Long wait for table although we made reservation. Long wait for server, got starters order wrong, drinks arrived upto 20 minutes apart. Had to call the server over to order main course. Bad attitude from waiter when asked where our drinks was after 20 minutes wait to be told bar is busy, then later told that they had dropped some glasses. Got the bill wrong... Need I go on!

My husband and I dined at the one in Las Vegas and this was not as nice. The food was way too sweet. Although service was good, everything was over-priced. Not a good place for kids or a romantic dinner for two... way too loud and crowded. Would only go again if we were in the neighborhood and nothing else was opened.

Very crowded, restaurant lost our reservation. Very noisy. Cheesecake dessert was still frozen. Waiter forgot to take cheesecake off our bill. Food was overpriced. The sweet/sour chicken was very good. Beef/broccoli was good. Overall, I was expecting more. I would eat here again, but only if the person I am going with really wants to.

I wanted to take my staff members to check out the new resturant (Hillsboro, Oregon), the manager won't take our reservation?? I called ahead 3 days. WOW!!!. The customer is not #1 at this place if you have a big group of 10-15 people. So I stay away from the PF Chang for good. I tried the food before with my husband. The food is ok. The place is nice, noisy. Cost is above the average. Nothing much to drag about.

Me & my wife were seated promptly on a Thursday night without reservations. The ambience was quite nice and a welcome change from the ordinary Chinese restaurants. Our waiter was exceptional, attentive, and fast. Dinner for two with drinks & tip should run around $45-50. Don't get the Mango Chicken, it sounds a lot better than it tastes. The food tasted good and wasn't as greasy and deep fried as the usual Chinese fare. Dissapointed that a somewhat upscale restaurant doesn't validate parking tickets when a grocery store from across the street does. If you're looking for Chinese food better than Panda Express and good surroundings, this is the place. Just don't come with super high expectations.

PF Chang's is the best. The food, service and atmosphere make for a highly enjoyable meal. The Lettuce Wraps, Ribs and Orange Peel Chicken are wonderful. I have been to many PF Chang's and am so glad that they have finally arrived here in Portland.

Just a tip for us people use to going to the local brew pub in short, sandles and a tee shirt. Dress a little nicer that you would normally dress. I was caught of gaurd with every one dressed up. The food was good. I really liked the combo-fried rice and the lemon chicken. My only disapointment was the hostess. She was a little put out by asking to bring the high chair outside to eat. Other that that our server was very good.

Chinese food without any of the traditional flavors. The vegetables were undercooked and very bland. They tasted like they had been steamed instead of sauteed. The chicken was quite greasy. The sauces were very uninteresting. The atmosphere was noisy. However, the service was good.

I usually don't like Chinese restaurants and will not attend them due to their greasy food and unpleasant smell of pungent aroma that remains in your clothes but after dining at P.F. Chang's I found the exception. The wait was long, but expected, and the food was worth the wait. I appreciated the option of having brown or white rice, a full bar, and several items on the menu may be steamed, as a healthier alternative, or fried. The atmosphere is upbeat but not too hectic and the waitress kept up with our drinks and made excellent recommendations for a wonderful meal. The great wall of chocolate is delicious but I would recommend sharing. I was also pleased that my clothes didn't smell like my dinner afterward. I would strongly recommend P.F. Chang's to anyone who enjoys a classy, upbeat restaurant with plenty of options for healthier Chinese food.

On Saturday night, I was one of a party of six that waited for an hour and a half to get a table at P. F. Changs. The food was great, but the service was terrible. The noise level was that of a tacky cafeteria. I was disgusted by the fact that people moving about had to navigate an obstacle course to keep from getting into the food being served. I very slim, but found it impossible to get to the restroom without dipping into someone else's sauce. (Sorry!) We had to ask our waitress for water and drink refills and also to remove plates from our table. She mixed triple the mustard in our lettuce wrap sauce, then disappeared for 20 minutes. She left us with no water and we couldn't get any one else to refill it. We expected more from our hundred bucks!

After visiting several California Changs, I was disapointed with the Portland location. The food was excellent and our waiter was good, but the overall service and ambience was disapointing. There is no valet parking, which is ridiculous for an allegedly "stylish" downtown restaurant. But what is worse is that they don't even validate parking! The supermarket across the street validates if you buy some veggies, but this upscale restaurant doesn't. That is simply unacceptable. Most of my fellow diners on the weekend night I went was dressed down and sloppy in jeans and ratty t-shirts like they were eating at a cheap taco stand. Portland's P F Changs needs serious help in the style and panache' department, and I doubt I'll return to this Chang location. There are hipper places in the Pearl.

I love this place! I first experienced P.F. Changs when I lived in Colorado and when I found out one had opened in the Pearl, I was excited. The first time I was there the server gave my husband and I a complimentary entree so we could try something different. I've never been anywhere that actually gives you an entree for free just because they believe in their food. Yummy. My favorite by far is the orange peel shrimp with the lettuce wraps not far behind. I celebrated my birthday with a party of 14. The table was set up and ready to go - with reservations in advance. It was a hit!
