This is the type of yarn shop you can just pop in, grab a coffee, and lounge on a couch knitting for a few hours. The space is small, but they have some really nice stuff, and the staff has always been excellent. Having the cafe there is wonderful, and there's lots of seating. Sometimes when it's busy, you might share a table and sit close to other knitters, but that just means you get to meet some cool knitting person. :) This is the first yarn store I ever went to in Portland, and I still love it.

I love Mabel's! I go in, get a latte and pastry, pull out my current project, and while away the afternoon. They have a great selection of yarns that you don't find at Michael's or Joann's, and the staff is SO helpful - you can ask them anything, and they'll help you with whatever project you're working on. Mabel's also has classes for knitting and crocheting.

PROS: Great selection, helpful staff
CONS: None!
