Highly skilled surgeons for complicated cases  5 Star Rating - World class

By Michelle G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,439

I saw Dr. Volpicelli for my Lasik surgery two years ago, and I was absolutely thrilled with the process and the results. My correction was very strong, so I was on the cusp of being ineligible for surgery. Dr. Volpicelli performed at least 6 pre-surgery examinations over the course of several months to ensure I was a good candidate -- then got the correction right during the surgery.

Dr. Volpicelli and his partner, Dr. Beers, are corneal surgeons on the faculty at Stanford, and were both involved in the original Lasik trials years ago. Their experience is reflected in their prices, which are naturally higher than the "drive-thru" Lasik places whose ads populate the free newspapers. But the quality of care and results -- particularly for difficult cases -- is unparalleled.

Best Ophthalmic Surgeons! 5 Star Rating - World class

By kpeterson100

Peninsula Laser Eye Medical Group specializes in LASIK and cataract surgery. Dr. Beers removed the cataracts from both of my father's eyes and he now sees 20/20! Dr. Beers also performed LASIK surgery on my brother-in-law and he, too, sees 20/20 now. Dr. Volpicelli removed a pinguecula from my right eye and my eye is now perfectly white -- it used to look red/yellowish (not very attractive ;-)) In all 3 cases, Dr. Beers, Volpicelli and their staff were so nice and professional. They really cared about my family and me and even called each one of us to make sure we were doing well after our procedures. I would highly recommend Peninsula Laser Eye Medical Group to anybody who needs eye surgery.

Pros: Very caring, excellent surgeons, beautiful clean office, conveniently located

Avoid this place if you value your eyesight 1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

By apple597

My experience with Dr. Beers shows that you cannot determine the quality of a doctor until something goes wrong. How s/he responds to complications, especially with LASIK where something as precious as your eyesight is affected, is crucial. Dr. Beers apparently did not have the experience to address my post-LASIK complications. In addition, he brushed off my concerns of having less than stellar results to my "being a perfectionist" (???). As a result, I have permanent side effects from my surgery. I saw two renown LASIK doctors in Bay Area after my ordeal and both said that Dr. Beers did not take the proper steps in addressing my complications. They couldn't say whether my complications could have been addressed properly if he had taken the proper steps, but both commented that he was obviously inexperienced. Now there will always be a big "WHAT IF" in the back of my head. DO NOT see this doctor if you value your eyesight.

Pros: None
Cons: No experience addressing with post-LASIK complications, inability to give straightforward information
