This is a great place to hang out if you like craft beers and good food, but don't like the attitude that usually comes with them. The bar and waitstaff are fun, and the fare is relatively cheap considering the quality. It's definitely

Real good bar food. It's not quite a dive, but for Center City, it has a hipster-ish crowd. It's dark and loud, they play a decent mix of music (maybe it's a jukebox, can't recall) and the play sports on TV (altogether, it's not an common mix). I am a big fan of their veggie burger (or whatever they call it). I'm a real meat eater, but I tried this because it has some curry component, and found it to be delicious. It's something I crave every once in a while, and when I go back for it, it doesn't disappoint!

This place has character. The food is solid and interesting and they don't try to do too much. The white chili w/housemade cornbread is tasty. Burgers are good as well. They also care about beer and carry interesting craft brews that other places don't have. Always good music playing as well. The service is sometimes aloof as they seem to be cultivating a hipster vibe but it isn't aweful and with everything else they have going, the service doesn't get in the way.

Pros: Beer selection, food, music

Cons: service just okay

I'm sorry but I just don't like Good Dog. It's crowded and overpriced and last night (hopefully my last trip to that dump ever) the waiter was really rude to us about freeing up the booth we were sitting at.

Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE YO

We heard great things about this place, but the food was just disappointing. We tried the Good Dog Burger, and it was not very tasty. For one, it was small, and although the cheese in the middle was a cool idea, it made it impossible to cook the burger evenly. There were basically no toppings on the burger, either. I'm not sure what the big fuss was about. The fries were poorly cooked (it's been a while, I can't remember whether they were limp or burned, but it was one of those) and poorly seasoned. We got the salad with goat cheese, cranberries, and vanilla dressing, and it was a bit lackluster. The flavors just didn't go together. Also, be aware: the large salad is HUGE. Like, enough to feed a family.
We won't be going back.

Pros: interesting menu, good location, fun spot

Cons: busy, unimpressive food, not a great value

Good Dog is cheap and good, what you want from a pub. It occupies three floors and every time we've been there, all have been filled with diners. Be warned that the noise can be ear-splitting, but the fare doesn't disappoint.

I love the food here. The sweet potato fries are awesome. The Good Dog Burger is so good - oooh just thinking about it makes me want one right now. The beer selection is great - the problem is how long you have to wait for one. Now, in a small place like this, things can get tight and waits for a table are the norm. But what I cannot abide is waiting with an empty beer glass perched at the edge of the table, only to wait for an even longer amount of time after the server asks if I want a refill. It takes less than thirty seconds to pour a beer. And I'm not chugging down six pints in a sitting, people. I go to this place frequently and the long waits for beer refills happen every time. I am happy this cool bar is always busy and making its profits. But why on earth is there never mroe than two servers working the whole lower floor?

I dream about the Good Dog Burger with fries -- a blend of sweet and white potatoes: so delicious! The burger is always cooked to specification and is just juicy and meaty...mmmm. They have a good selection of beers and the waitstaff are very amiable (and always busy!). One of my favourite places.

I went in with several other friends to have a couple of drinks and then head our way to another bar. We sat and ordered our drinks from our waitress who was prompt with our drinks and gave us no problems. However 2 rounds later we were told that another group had come in "who actually wanted to eat" and they wanted us to leave so they could have our table. We paid our bill (plus 20+% tip) and were finishing up our last round, when a waiter approached us again saying we had to get up "other people need to sit here, plus, you didn't tip well". Hey, I may be the only person, but I think its pretty rude to kick out paying customers and then mention a tip that was over sufficient. The restaurant wants your money and then move on to the next person who will give them money. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN! Being a waitress in the city myself, I would never kick paying customers out of one of my tables, and then complain about my tip, even if it was 5%! IT'S JUST RUDE!

What a great time we all had. The juke box was playing these old rap songs from NWA and Curtis *low. We each ordered the Good Dog burger that was packed with roqueford cheese in the middle. It was so awesome. I'm not a burger person, either. I may have one burger a year on 4th of July. But Good Dog bar is the exception! Craig La Ban was right: this is the best burger in Philly. I wish the boothes were a little bit roomier, though. And the waitress would rather seat you when your entire party has arrived. I can totally understand because I used to be a waitress so that doesn't bother me. You've got to give this place a try if you haven't already.

This is one of my favorite bars in Philly. The staff is great. The food, especially the burgers are very good. They have a great jukebox and a good beer selection.

the good dog's only downside is that it can get pretty crowded -- otherwise, it's one of philly's best bars. the menu is varied, the food is great and the environment is unique. good music. order french fries, or something that comes with them.

Good food. very crowded but it's worth it. you might have to wait for the table like 30 mins on Friday night, but that's ok you can always hangout at the bar. good happy hour. Only one thing that bother me is that you can't put your name down on waiting list. you just have to tell the waitor that you want a table. he will remember you and he will come get you when table is ready. I am just worry that he might forget about me so I keep eye contact everytime I he walk by to make sure he remember me.

Okay ? I?ve been hitting this spot for close to 3 years. Here?s a news bulletin: IT IS A BAR! Due to the accommodating staff and the place?s popularity, it can feel cramped, be loud, and until recently ? smoke filled so, yeah from time to time; slightly aggravating (but hey, so is home at times, right!). That said ? it is probably one of THE BEST damn bars for the money in Center City. It may not be the roomiest place around, but I love the feel of this place; friendly & relaxed, almost cozy for a bar. The owners? and employees, not to mention the awesome kitchen; as well as the diverse crowd make this place rock! They serve the best burger and fries ? bar none! The menu is full of comfort specials taken to the next level. The signature Good Dog burger is stuffed with Roquefort cheese! The beer selection is interesting and always fresh (something some folks may not be used to). So, if you?re looking for tablecloths, linen napkins and the maitre d? ? move on. But if you want to chill with friends or rub elbows with someone new (from Execs to bike messengers and everyone in-between) while you quaff some good beer (and as well as a nice wine selection) and grab some great food, then check your issues at the curb and come inside. The staff is funky and friendly; the food is delicious and the crowd is relaxed (not to mention entertaining at times). As for the naysayers out there; to each their own, but when one person writes 10 reviews (7 no?s, 1 average) and gives only one ?recommend? and that's for a ?Stephen Starr? establishment, well ? read into THAT what you will ?

I have been a Good Dog patron for years now (almost since their open 3 years ago), and this is by far the best hip bar in the city. The staff is incredibly nice, and I've never had a problem with service whatsoever. In fact as far as any bar in the city it has been the best! Your pint is refilled before you can set it down empty, the food is always incredibly good and fast, and there is always a smile upon delivery. The menu is also incredibly delicious from vegetarian and vegan options to the best burger I've ever had ANYWHERE, to baked mac and cheese, a melted brie sandwich, a grilled cheese utilizing gourmet cheeses, bacon and apples, bangin fresh salads, and a great "of the day" list of a goodies (pizza, soup, and quiche). There is somewhat of an attitude but you yuppies need to realize that there has to be some what of a badass ambiance to make a place flow that's filled with drunks...

One thing this bar is good for is a buyback. Alot of bars in the city don't do this, but if you take care of your server or bartender and are just a nice and generally patient person, you'll get a free drink now and again which does make a big difference. The jukebox may jump around a bit, but it's only because of the incredible great diversity of the patrons. The music could go from John Cougar Melloncamp to deathmetal, but then once you look around you realize you have lawyers sitting next to bike messengers (as noted by Craig LaBan) and everybody is getting along. Where else can you find this, especially in Center City?!

It has been incredibly busy since their review in the Inquirer but the staff has been busting their asses to make sure everybody is still taken care of. Overall, ignore the problems mentioned above and get over yourselves, this is still the best bar in the city regardless of their surge in business.

I have been to Good Dog on many occasions over the past few years. While the food is good, it is not unique. Lately, it seems that the service has become even ruder than in years past. Not so long ago we were made to stand outside in the cold because they were not ready to open on time. We asked if we could stand in the vestibule, but were told to wait outside until they were ready. We left. Not worth the lack of care for their customers.

Apparently now that they have gotten their write up in the Inquirer they don't feel that they need to be nice. I was told that my party of 8 could not be accomodated at 1 on a Friday afternoon. So in advance I tried to make reservations for 6 for a Wednesday night. I was then informed by the same evil woman who laughed us out of there the Friday before that they don't take reservations because they are "making more money now then we ever have in our lives". Good for them, but with that kind of attitude good luck keeping the business coming.

used to love eating at good dog and am an AVID supporter of the smoking ban in Phiadelphia. However, since the inception of the smoking ban, the Good Dog has been misbehaving. As business has picked up for places like the Good Dog because people like myself and others are willing to eat at these previously smoke filled restaurants, Good Dog's service and overall willingness to please its regular customers has fallen off. The Good Dog has become a rather rude dog when it comes to working with customer requests. The Good Dog should get over its new found success since the inception of the smoking ban and realize that it is entirely replaceable in cuisine-- the only thing that made it special was its fun atmosphere and staff. The owners of this place need to get a grip and really start catering to those who have kept Good Dog from being a dead dog years ago or those customers will start biting that good dog back.

Seems like everyone has the same waitress ruining what could otherwise be a great place. Not sure who she is but she is nasty. I agree with the other reiviews, good place that could be better if they just cared about their customers. Especially the people that helped to get them where they are, who suffered through the disgusting cigarette smoke because the food was worth it then. I will not be going back as the attitude makes the experience not worth the time.

The Good Dog is the consummate happy hour bar for the young professional, whether your profession requires a brief case or a bicycle. Formerly Frank Clements, the Good Dog blends an ideal center city location, square drink prices, and a friendly hipster staff to offer an ideal after work destination. The lone drawback is the fare, which, once a point of note for the Good Dog, has noticeably declined for reasons unknown. This observation is not based on one bad plate, but upon several disappointing dishes served in succession. But, on the whole, the Good Dog is definitely a good bar.

Great location. Great beer selection. Decent food. Spacious with 3 floors. The service is horrible though. The 7 or so times I have been in with friends there is some angry waitress. It is easier to go to the bar to get a drink from the bartenders than deal with this angry little server. Ok I thought, maybe she is having a bad night.... but every night? Very dissappointed..... I wanted to love this place.

although i try not to go too often since i can't resist the artery-clogging burgers, this place is fantastic. cozy, although with limited seating it can be a bit crowded. the burgers are amazing and the french fries are probably some of the best i've ever had. everything else on the menu looks equally delicious. wednesday is also half-price can night, so you can't beat that. definitely get to this place.

The Good Dog bar which was a small hole in the wall bar. It does have 3 floors with 2 different bars and the third floor is bathrooms and pool tables dart boards etc. I noticed that they were serving food late there and it looked really good. I had a Dogfish Head Punkin Ale Draught there and I was very impressed by it. It tasted a little like pumpkin pie when it went down. It definitely was potent stuff because I was definitely feeling it after the 2nd Draught. Overall the ambience and service was good. I didn't particularly enjoy the music but it was all from a juke box so I can't blame them for the bad music. I give Good Dog Bar a 7 out of 10. The prices were very reasonable especially for the area. The service was good and everyone was friendly.

I've been to the Good Dog a few times for Quizzo and at other times. They have delicious burgers cooked to perfection just as you request (the Good Dog is my personal favorite) and the mix of regular and sweet potato fries are incredible. Also, the Good Dog Salad is a great price and a delicious meal ($7 for a large bowl of salad). They also have a great selection of bottled beers. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a good meal and a good time.

Great must try Burger @ this no-pretense bar. It is stuffed with roquefort cheese, covered with carmelized onions & served with sweet/idaho fries with a spicy aioli. Chased it down with a few microbrews on tap & played with the ultra-cool internet juke. The apps were good too & the prices were a surprise for the location.

Pros: food quality, drink selection, inexpensive
