Fantastic place. It is deep in the dark recesses of an old garage. It's a railroad flat version of a restaurant, narrow and deep. Whatever fantastic cajun fare you choose, you've got to try the homade mashed and gravy! One of the neatest features of this restaurant is that there are a bazillian hot sauce choices on a shelf that goes around the restaurant. My favorite addition is Trappey's hot vinegar sprinkled over my collard greens! yum!

Ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with eggs and home fries. The steak is off the chart , this dish could stand up to most chiefs and establishments. Great tunes on the jukebox of famous BE artists.

This is an authentic BE place in the big city !

I wasn't looking for linen tablecloths, fine china and crystal but I think if you order a po boy it should come dressed and not served on top of a wet tomato so the sandwich is soggy with two sealed plastic containers of sauces(takeout style.) The sweet potato fries were not fries but roasted wedges of sweet potato. The oysters and shrimp were cooked well but everything else was wrong.
Disappointed

Very good cajun/southern food. Nice decor and friendly service. Delicious cornbread comes on the table. A little overpriced, though, so be prepared.

I always go here, but only for their weekend brunches. It's $10.95 and you get a whole lotta food.
I know it' s not authentic southern, cajun. Thier po boys are too small and not messy enough to be the real deal. But it's good food anyways. Their fried catfish and eggs rancheros are the best.

Called them at 5:20 for a delivery. At 6:30 called again and was told it was "on the way". 7:30 now and the food still hasn't arrived. Unacceptable for Manhattan.

i just had dinner here tonight. The food was terrible. the service terrible. The meatloaf was served cold. Dennys is better than this place. By far. So, i went to take a look at the past 15 reviews giving this place 5 stars, and sure enough... i checked the number of reviews that these people had on here. Only one. One review. That looks suspicious to me. Looks like the owner is desperate. The food and service were terrible, and honestly, i feel sick from eating the food.

As a southerner, it's always hard for me to find good comfort food in the city. Acme hits the nail on the head. Start off with some jambalaya before moving on to mac and cheese and garlic mashed potatos. The po' boys are authentic and delicious as well. Sip it all down with Abita.

Love, love, love ACME. If you like your food spicy, you'll love ACME too. The cornbread placed at every table before each order is hot and soft...just like granny used to make. The cajun corn is hot enough to start a 3 alarm fire in your mouth. Topped with butter, shredded cheese and cayenne pepper. The Jambalya states very similar to those found on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

I hadn't been to Acme in more than 10 years. But after this weekends brunch I'm ready to become a regular.
It's an excellent value. For 11 bucks the brunch is enormous. They have the coffee or tea plus a drink thing
included with the giant meal. But the best part is the cornbread. I don't think that I have ever had such fantastic
cornbread. It is so moist and sweet. It's got a whole different kind of texture of it's own. The meal was good
with a Cajun flair. I got the Bulldog, which was eggs on sausage on biscuit with gravy. It comes with potatoes and cheese grits. I couldn't even get through half of it because of the size.

Excellent cajun food. Close to many theaters around there (I saw some guy who was in a play that was also in the movie "Hollywoodland" there the other night). OnSundays all day you can get any of the appetizers on the menu HALF PRICE sitting up at the bar where they have nice new stools; totally layed back.

I seriously love this place. Every time I am in the city.... I go out of my way to eat there. Burgers with the best taste, the bun is good, the cheeze it great, its all so good I dont know how they do it. I also like the fried shrimp... they are fried in a flakey crisp batter that is go good and the shrimp taste so fresh... amazing. I always get tons of sides like mac and cheeze, mashed potatoes, and tons of gravy. There is alot on the menu but its all so good that I cant go wrong with my normal picks. Example, they have meatloaf, fried chicken, po boy sandwitches, bbq chickens, its all there. The last thing I can say is that the food tastes better than home made and better than 99% of places to eat in the whole country.

Nestled between Lafayette Street and Broadway, Acme is a great place to enjoy some mouthwatering dishes and happening atmosphere. The decor is rustic and full of flare. Acme's flare is matched by its down to earth and fun to talk to staff. Great coversation.

If you have a palette for spice and sheer flavor, this place is for you. Pick one of the many hot sauces which line the walls and you are in business. Test your tolerance with some "scorned woman" hot sauce, but be sure to have a Red Stripe or Hoegarden readily available should you need to douse the flames. An AcmeBurger will be one of those things that will keep you coming back for more-Quite possibly the tastiest burger on the planet, and is a red meat lovers dream. The cajun catfish fingers will have you licking your fingers. The meatloaf and mashed potatoes will make you feel at home. All in all a great place and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking maximum fun food enjoyment at a bargain price.

You can't go wrong with anything here. You will go back again and again. The ambiance is very cool. There is a huge bar, fun to hang out at, attracts a fun crowd. Great drinks. The location is great! Up the block from Bleeker Street train station. I liked the atmosphere. Its a laidback crowd. The menu had a variety of things which is great and almost pleasing to the eye. Its a little pricey for an order of Shrimp Po-Boy with a side of hand-cut fries. One of my shrimps had a strong smell of fish scent. I know its shrimp but it shouldnt smell that way. I didnt eat that particular one so I put it aside and ate the rest (the other ones were ok). For a sandwich it had 6 breaded shrimps total. I figured for that price I should have had at least 8 or so. The side dressing was yummy! My husband had the cheddar cheese bacon cheeseburger and he was content.

This lively restaurant is great for groups, as almost everyone can find something they like on this menu of comfort food (as well as an accompanying hot sauce in whatever strength you wish). The whole kernal corn bread is a yummy starter, the margaritas are pretty good, the mashed taters are great and the barbecue pulled chicken is wonderful. I have to say that I recently ordered shrimp creole here and loved everything about it BUT the shrimp (tasted a little fishy, not that fresh). I think I've enjoyed the seafood dishes here before so I don't know if that was a one time disappointment or what but I'll probably stick with the meat and sides next time. Great proximity to Ace of Clubs (the venue formerly known as Acme Underground); our waiter put the rest of my drink in a paper cup so I could enjoy downstairs.

I sometimes long for their chicken fried steak and a beer, this place does the trick every time. The game is usually on the TV too, which is good. There is a bar in the back and lots of tables up front that can be for couples or quickly grouped together for a large group.

I have been to Acme several times, and use it as a place to get some soul-style comfort food. We always get the Granny's Fried Okra as a starter. I definitely recommend the meatloaf, corn on the cob, Mac N' Cheese, and Mashed Potatoes with gravy. Sometimes the mashed potatoes are a bit on the garlicky side, but nothing that can't be washed down with a pint of Yuengling. The drinks are mixed on the strong side.

The service is below average, for the price you pay. They hit it about 1 out of 4 times with good service.

It is a loud, bustling place. You sit closely with your neighbors, but have some good conversations. The manager is always walking about checking on people and chatting with regulars. Overall, I recommend Acme if you are looking for some good soul food and want to waddle away feeling full.

Shrimp/oyster po-boy- you have to put it together yourself? You're kidding. A proper po-boy shows up dressed and they have no idea what that means. The breading didn't stick to the seafood either, and the quantity for the price was skimpy.

My friend's steak po-boy showed up horribly cooked. The steak was seared on the outside, raw on the inside, and totally inedible.

Service left much to be desired. We had hot buffalo tenders for an appetizer, and the waitress didn't bother to come back to check on how we were doing on drinks.

The tenders themselves were good.

On the plus side, the mashed potatoes with gravy were excellent- real potatoes with lots of garlicky goodness.

This place has the best meatloaf I've ever tasted, the mac and cheese was yummy without being too greasy and the collard greens were simply divine with a kick. The Jambalaya was sooooo moist, with big chunks of chicken & sausage. One of the best meals i've had in the longest time. The closest cajun meal in NY to Mother's in NO.

Order the Mac n Cheese side! The corn bread is also great, but lucky you, it's free!

The fried oysters in the poor boy or entree are good, as are the various ways to order catfish, including the catfish salad. This is definitely a fun group place, good for cheap eats in large quantities that are definitely enhanced by the beer.
