Amish Oak By Yoder are Thieves

by Lynn T.

Not sure if anyone else out there was just burned by this business but I lost $4,900. I purchased a dining room set on 8/29/09. I bought the hutch/buffet off the floor and was told when the table and chairs came in they would deliver all in one delivery. After numerous visits to the store and phone calls with no return calls I went to the store on 8/23/09 and found the store locked with plastic covering the windows. Phone number on their business card just rang and rang. I can't find out if there is anything left in the store because the mall management can't get into the store. I am physically sick over this because I foolishly paid by check. These people have no conscience and in my opinion stole my $4,900.

Very Happy

by Betty D.

We ordered our kitchen table and chairs from this store and could not be more pleased with the set. I have to say the staff was very helpful and the delivery men where great. We were told the table and chairs would take up to 4 months to be made, it was worth the wait, they match our kitchen cabinets perfectly!! I will recommend Amish Oak By Yoder to family and friends, very nice people and excellent quality. Betty D

Furniture ok, customer service negligible

by John W.

Ordered an item and was advised a three week wait. Three weeks came and went, had trouble getting return phone calls from them. Worried they had taken the money and run. Finally was advised that the item was on a truck. More delays without any contact from them, but item eventually arrived and was in good condition. Although the Amish furniture appears to be well-made, I would go to one of the many other retailers in the area who will communicate appropriately and as though they value your business.

Horrible Customer Service!

by Suzanne C.

We ordered a table and matching chairs in maple. When they did arrive 6 weeks later than promised, the table was in maple, but the chairs were in oak. I started calling them about 3 months after they promised to 'put a rush' on my re-order. I then had to call them every 2 weeks, because they never called me. Three times I had to drive out to Huntley to talk to them because they would not even answer their phones. Personally, I think that they forgot to re-order the chairs, but they were never honest with that point. When the chairs finally arrived after me harassing them, it was a total of 7 MONTHS that we waited. Do not go near this store if you want your order handled in a professional manner

This order saddens me very much. The Amish person that read the order, made a terrible mistake of making the chairs in Oak not Maple. We did not notice the mistake until the order came in, we gave the customer the option of a refund or to wait for a new set of chairs to be made, she chose to wait. The customer has so many options to choose from when they order from the Amish. You can choose the wood, stain, the edge you want on your table, the pedestal or leg style, basically you are creating your own heirloom. This process takes anywhere from 8-16 to be completed, in the end you have a product that will last you a lifetime. When a mistake is made it has to be corrected and that does add time to the order. Amish people are human and sometimes they make mistakes, just like the rest of us. Suzanne, I am very sorry you were disappointed with the length of time it took us to complete your order. I hope you and your family are enjoying you dinning room set and I hope you have many happy family memories around the table.

Grandma's Beware

by Kathy K.

I wish I had looked at this before I ordered my Grandson's table and chair set. My daughter and I went into Amish Oak in Sept, 2008. Elaine showed us two sets in a book, claiming both sets were the same cost. We picked the wheat back chairs and a round table, and paid for them. I was told that they had a truck going to pick other furniture up in 3 weeks so she would have them in Mid October, this was the beginning of calls I made that were never returned. When I finally did get a hold of someone they said they would be in before Christmas. Well it was today that they left me a message on my machine. Two round chairs and table were in. Except when I went in tonight, they weren't the chairs we ordered. Tracy claimed that Elaine was unavailable to talk to. I was given the choice, " Take the two chairs and table they had, and be Happy." But I explained again that the chairs weren't the ones that I ordered. By this time I called my husband and then my daughter on my cell. My daughter could over hear Tracy telling me to she would either give me my money back or call security. I picked the credit at that point , she did run the credit through, but refused to give me my copy of the invoice that showed what I had originally bought. What is really sad is Elaine gave me this wonderful story about signing the table and chairs so my grandson would have these forever. She clearly knew what set we wanted, and was the one who quoted them as the same price. Bait and Switch? or just a daughter trying to keep her mother from giving the store away. It's so sad that when I told Tracy that I would make sure I told my friends about my experience, she laughed it off, and actually said go ahead. So friends I'm letting you know, I doubt I'll hear from Elaine, but if I do I'll be sure to let you know.

high price & low class

by BRIAN H.

Ordered a bdrm set, and was told it would arrive and then 3 weeks later it finally came. When i called about the arrival date and asked to be compensated because we had arranged to move shortly after delivery date and set came after we moved and after we were told, the owner was rude in his handling of the situation. He even blamed his staff but all business owners know that is an excuse of poor procedures that should be put in place. I would never use this Amish store. Perhaps the Amish should teach this guy a lesson in manners.

Terrible service and no follow up

by BOB R.

Do not trust anything you are being told by the staff. They don't have a clue as to what is going on. Very nice as they take your money then forget it. There is no customer service at all.

Run, Do Not Walk Away from this Business

by Jill R.

I ordered a dining room table and chairs in July of 2008. The receipt said special orders take 12 to 16 weeks. As of today it has been 18 weeks and I still have no table. The chairs came in the beginning of September, but what good are chairs without a table? I have called and called the store trying to get some kind of update on my table. I have yet to receive a call back from anyone. I was told, back in October, that my table was on the truck due in the next week and I would be the first delivery! Wow, that truck must be coming by way of South America because I still have not received my table. My advise, RUN, DO NOT WALK AWAY FROM THIS STORE. They do not return phone calls, they do not follow up with customers and are very unprofessional. They have no problem taking your order and taking your money, but try to get what you order - forget it. Try to talk to the owner and she is never available. Try to find out when to expect your order - forget it.I never thought I would have to check a furniture store that has been at this location for years with the Better Business Bureau, but I guess you can't trust anyone.Just to be fair, I will update this review on what happens with my order. At this point I am asking for my deposit back. I know what you are thinking - forget it. Right? By the way, in my opinion the rating for this business should be 1 star. If you buy something off the floor, it is beautifully made. But don't order anything. You might as well (you know what is coming) - forget it!

Great Store

by elizabeth s.

We purchased a bedroom set from Amish Oak By Yoder in April and could not be happier. We had looked for months for a new set, we either found the quality was poor or the price was outrageous. My husbands co-worker recommended the "Amish store" at the outlet mall to us, I'm so glad she did. The salesperson was so helpful, was not pushy and spent a lot of time showing us the different woods we could choose from. The new set was delivered to our home, the delivery men were so careful and it was just like Elaine had promised it would be. I would recommend this store to anyone who wants great quality and great prices.

Amish Oak Huntley Outlet Mall is Shady

by Anonymous

In 2004, we purchased a crib/nursery from Amish Oak located in the Huntley Il Factory Outlet Mall. At that time, we were told that a conversion kit could be purchased at a later time to convert the crib into a full sized bed. When the time came to order, June 29, 2007, I was told that the kit would be available for pick up in 6 to 8 weeks. I was told that the kit cost 279.00. I ordered the piece over the phone. Our hope was to surprise our three year old with his new "big boy bed" for his 3rd birthday...October 4th. We should have had plenty of time. Long story short, 6 to 8 weeks turned into 26 weeks. In the mean time, my phone calls and answering machine messages were repeatedly ignored. At one point I called and left messages each day for five consecutive days with no response. At week 22, the owner, Elaine, apologised for the grave inconvenience and lack of professionalism. She promised that she would not only have the kit within the next week, but also discount the kit by 50%, I was annoyed, but pleased that the business took responsibility...so I thought. At week 26, I still had no kit. Finally, I called, yet again, and by some miracle, the kit was in the store. The problem now...Elaine claimed that she never promised the discounted price. In fact, she told me I would have to pay $299.00...$20.00 higher that the original price quote. She claimed that she would have never offered the discount and told me to forget it and that she wouldn't sell me the kit. After all that, she rudely brought the price down to 199.00. I quickly went and picked up the kit, despite that fact it was now 40.00 more that promised. Bottom line, Amish Oak is TERRIBLE. I went on the Better Business Bureau site and found several complaints on them. I would advise that you steer clear of such a shady business. If you must, get EVERYTHING in writing...don't assume you can trust delivery time frames. We will spread the word to friends and family and never shop at Amish Oak again. Thank you. Jenna
