Went 3x and waited all three for more than an hour. I thought, ok, he's busy. Last time waited 2.5 hrs and had to sit on floor with 2 protruding discs in back b/c his waiting room was so full. He prescribed steroids that according to my neurologist had no chance of doing anything to help the problem. I asked if I could have the $40 co-pay waived because of the ridiculous wait and they pretty much laughed. Maybe he is a good doctor, but NOBODY is that good. Total BS

There is always a wait for Dr Lavine even if you are the only one in the waiting room...can't quite figure that one out. He is very inattentive to your problem. He performed surgery on my left knee for a slight cartilage tear as diagnosed by an MRI. However, after the surgery the pain did not go away. Now I am $400 poorer with the same pain.

My impression is he wants to rush you to surgery so he can make more money. He does not offer any reccomendations about rehabilitation or alternative treatments. He is all about the cutting!

I went to Dr. Lavine for a fractured wrist. He was attentive and caring. I needed immediate attention after being treated by another doctor in an emergency room. He made time to fit me into his schedule and explained to me in great detail my treatment options. He came very highly recommended to me by one of the best physical therapists in the area. I could not be more pleased with Dr. Lavine's treatment.

Yes, he is a nice guy. But the reviews about not being attentive and the loonnng waits are true. I tore my MCL and unfortunately there was no x-rays done, no MRI, no physical therapy prescribed. Just painkillers. I was very disappointed with my experience. The only reason why I go is the convenience.

Should have listened to everyone else. My wait was 1 hour long then waited in the room for him an additional 30 min. I dislocated my shoulder for a second time. He did do an X Ray quickly examined it and wrote me a prescription for an MRI. He never physically evaluated my shoulder or look at it at all...His answers to my question were somewhat informative but overall I have been to better practices then this one. One thing they need to work on is not overbooking so many apt times, witnessed a gentleman come back for the second time that day and flip out since he had to go out of town.

Amazing doctor, amazing person! Cares about each patient & listens.Spends as much time as you need.
He was referred to me by 3 people at work who love him. He operated on my knee and shoulder-I did great, as did my friends at work. Very conservative about surgery. He is smart & explains things to you. (He takes time to answer all of your concerns so sometimes he runs behind--but waiting in a doctors office is common everywhere.) Leader in medical community & passionate about his patients. Available 24/7. One of the best doctors in DC metro area. Also treats professional dancers & many celebrities which are fun to meet in his office. Avoid a factory office and get personal care with Dr. Pete. Treats a lot of ER patients-which is a wonderful service to the community. (He does have some nutty and demanding ER patients, especially in his VA office!) I would and have recommended him to many people. Oh, he is also President of the DC Medical Society and a community leader. Great doctor :)

Same as the others - long wait, disinterest in actually diagnosing, said he was tired from working in the ER - waste of time - I am seeking another doctor.

I had a great experience with Dr. Levine. I had an orthopedic scope on my knee and I'm like new. He was really nice - though yes, the appts were never on schedule. I would just call before and ask how late he was running - I never waited that way. Other than late appts - everything was great. I highly reccommend Dr. Lavine. I am writing this bc i find most people only write reviews when they're angry. I was very pleased and think anyone checking him out should know that.

Doesn't seem to care about patients' needs. I was injured from the cheap-assed crutches he gave me to use and now my entire right arm has a pinched nerve. I have to diagnose myself, so I'm guessing it was a pinched nerve from a previous rotator cuff injury. Now I have to seek out ANOTHER doctor because of his lack of listening and the fact that he's always so rushed since he only has 2 days he's in his office, often cancelling because of 'emergencies'. I spent an entire day going back and forth trying to get x-rays from the Mt. Vernon Hospital since he didn't even finish writing the Rx to get them done properly, having to go back and forth to his office. Then he had to cancel my original appointment because of an emergency at the hospital, having to come back to see him in the afternoon and waiting an additional hour to see him.

It's obvious he likes working in the hospital, but not working with patients when they're conscience and asking him questions. He was friendliest right before I was unconscious at the hospital. At his office, he wouldn't even talk to me. I would ask him questions and he wouldn't respond. I didn't want to be rude and waited for him to respond, which never ever happened. Then his cell phone would ring and he would briefly answer to see who it was and then hang up on them. I was thinking, "WTF?" I definitely got the feeling he didn't want to be there, talking and helping his patients. I felt like a piece of garbage, not worthy of him even speaking to me. He put my ankle back together great, but I've never dealt with a doctor that had such an obviously defunct bedside manner.

Back when I was waiting for him to appear in the examination room, when he finally showed up he literally gave me scissors and told me to take off my own bandages and then left the room. I had to wait for him even longer. Then he quickly appeared again and ripped out my staples with no warning. During this horrible process, he asked me to hold the bloody staples in my the palm of my hand while he ripped them out---and he WAS ripping because he took chunks of skin with them.I was just looking down at my ankle and seeing the blood start gushing out of my previous wound, thanks to the careless way he ripped them all out. He must have gotten some sick thrill after taking them out and causing me to bleed, then making me hold them in my hand when I was in pure agony. I couldn't believe how heartless he was. I mentioned the shoulder injury and he just ignored me, rushing out of the room.

If you have a choice, definitely see another doctor. If you have MAMSI, you'll probably get him, unfortunately. I definitely experienced everything that was negative that all the other people experienced. He's maxed-out with patients and cannot help them. People were ticked off in the waiting room with one lady yelling out why others are going before her and she was waiting longer, but those of use came back later from the morning because he canceled appts. on us all. I never see anyone smile in the waiting room---they're all miserable. Also, take off the entire day if you have an appointment to see him because it'll be a hassle because he apparently doesn't show up for the appointments very often, making you reschedule for later in the day.

They'll give you an appointment at 10 and Dr. will end seeing you at 11.30. The personnel at the front desk are not nice at all and if medical records are requested, they'll take forever

Wait was unbearable. six people were ahead of me in the waiting room. One man was back for his 3rd time without having seen the doctor because the waits had been over an hour and a half.

The doctor does not communicate. Period. He gave me prescriptions, didn't explain them, or even decipher them from dr. scribble for me. I didn't know what I was getting until I asked the pharmacist. I needed a letter for work and he and the assistant inssisted it be scribbled by hand on a prescription pad. My office would not accept it.

The prescriptions did work quickly. So, I am a bit torn about seeing him again. I think I will see him through this episode but necessarily find a new orthopedist for future issues. No one was happy in the waiting room. I can't recommend you go through this.

Dr. Lavine (the spelling is wrong for this enty) has been my orthopedic dr for over 10 years. He saved movement in my son's arm after a complicated break, he has performed knee surgery on me, and has treated a number of other back, neck, ankle problems over the years. He is orthopedic doctor to ballet and dance companies, following in the steps of his father who was orthopedic dr to the Redskins and U of MD. I trust him completely. When he doesn't know something he tells you and is realistic about physical therapy and treatment needed. He bends over backwards to accommodate people who need to see him, which is why there is often a wait, but when I have needed to "get in," I am so appreciative. He is worth the wait! I give him 5 stars!

I went in to see him for a mildly annoying problem in my hip that that my physical therapist thought was more than a strain. He barely listened to my history before giving me the most painful physical exam that left me limping out of the office. The pain only intensified and I wasn't able to walk without tearing pain. When I called his office to let them know what was going on and that I needed help, I never heard back from him. I ended up having to have emergent surgery so that I could walk. I would encourage everybody to stay away from this doctor.

I've been to Dr. Levine's office three times and every time I waited over an HOUR, the last appointment I waited an hour and a half and ended up walking out. While him and his staff are courteous and knowledgeable they are not equipped to handle the large quantity of patients they schedule. I will not return.

I concur with both reviews I experienced his "EXAMINATION" and his continued re-appointments etc. I would not recommend him to anyone ever. I visited him on three occassions, the first time he looked at the x-ray which I had brought and wrote a prescription for an MRI, the second visit he looked at the MRI and wrote a prescription for another MRI with contrast, the third visit he looked at the second MRI and referred me to another Dr., not once did he ever physically examine the knee which I was complaining about

He offered no diagnosis of the problem just recommended a different brace and a follow up appointment. No X-rays taken (nor could they use the ones from the hospital) or anything. When I went in for my follow up appointment, I sat for an hour AFTER my appointment time and then ended up walking out. I said I was not going to pay the co-pay for sitting in a room (and to their credit they didn't charge). While I was waiting on ??my time?, I made an appointment with another Dr. I am not saying I don't recommend Dr. Levine's office as it is up to each individual, but I will not go back there. If it is just 1 Dr., one PT, and one receptionist, they should think about their scheduling and not have appointments 15 minutes apart as they are clearly not equipped for that kind of capacity. They may all be great at what they do but should recognize their limits w/ such a small staffed office and concentrate on making a few patients at a time happy instead of trying to max out capacity.

Dr Levine is a really nice guy, and I choose his office to visit because it was easy to get an appointment and he took my insurance (MAMSI). I would recommend him for patients who already have a diagnosis from another doctor and need someone who will be available for follow up, and prescriptions to physical therapy. In my case, I found him frustrating because although I had several appointments with him when I injured my ankle, he never examined me or give me a diagnosis. Instead he kept prescribing painkillers and physical therapy--neither of which were very effective without knowing what was wrong.
