5 Stars: Blue Ribbon (by Scarlett H.)

Have to be honest here:

First glances are demeaning. Go around the back, and you catch a couple of high school smokers cutting classes. The older building has no air conditioning, and the bathroom near the gym is missing a couple of sinks. The walls and lights are dirty yellow (really bad color!!!) and most of the old bathrooms have writing everywhere.

But if you go to this school, and you're actually interested in learning something, you've hit the jackpot. Get into the GT or AP classes. The teachers, some mean, some silly, and some very nice, are all top of their career. Their sports and clubs all score high (county champions, Columbia Association's number one choice, Hershey Park convention goers).

Testing: freshmen and sophomores get FREE PSAT testing. Freshmen!! The early practice is great. There are also year round SAT crash courses. HSA's, although you MUST pass them, are easy peasy.

For those who like vacations, there are seven days set out for emergency closings (7!!!, cough, Pennsylvania only gives 2 or 3) and they'll mend the calendar if they don't use them all.

Although it's a relatively new thing, class of 09 seniors are trying to head a senior trip to Cancun. Is it going to work? I give them 9 out of 10 chances they'll go. Seniors also get a chance to take half the classes necessary and use the rest of the time on an intern arranged through a special office right at the school.

This is a suburban school, so no worries about that high Baltimore crime rate (that's in the city, where people get robbed every day). It sits right around a residential area (homes, townhouses, and apartments) with plenty of sidewalks.

So come to Dulaney! (Lions, an overdone mascot, but it's alright.)

4 Stars: Large school, overall very good (by Katherine M.)

Two of our kids went to Dulaney High School. It's a very good public school with excellent teachers, a few of whom are really great. Class sizes are manageable if a bit big due to overcrowding. Test scores are pretty high and there are a LOT of extra curricular acitivities available.

Sports are really big here; the arts, not so much, though the marching band is very good and not considered too geeky!
