economics over patient's health  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

My 79 yr old father followed Dr Lee from Stanford Hospital to his private practice when the doctor started his own business. When Dr Lee joined a program that required an $1800 annual fee, my father had to find a new doctor. It took him a bit longer to do so given his insuarance situation. However, during this time my father ran out of prescription. Dr Lee's office told us that, for legal reasons, he can not order a refill for my father, even though my father depends on his meds and is in poor health. This leaves a really sick feeling to my stomach.

Richard D. Lee  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

I select Richard Lee as as family doctor from a list. What it is terrible is that he would let a new patient to wait for over a month. Even if you beg him, he would not change mind. Now he is asking for $1800 a year member fee in addition to insurance. How greedy is such a doctor. I am sick and need to see doctor. If I switch a doctor right now, I will have to wait for over half a month for the new doctor to be effective according to the insurance policy. I would suggest that Mr. Lee specify the additional requirements in the insurance list so that people like me would not select him as my family phsician.

Unwanted solicitations  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

In spite of multiple calls to both Dr Lee's office and his direct mail service (MDVIP), I continue to receive unwanted mail solicitations.

Jennifer at MDVIP tells me that they got my name and address from Dr. Lee. Since I never have been a patient of Dr Lee (and certainly don't plan to become one), I can only surmise that he got my personal information from some other source, perhaps a previous employer.

A great doctor, a great person  5 Star Rating - World class

I've been seeing Dr.Lee for over 10 years. I first met him at Stanford Family Practice and I was in pretty bad mental shape through some live events. Dr. Lee was great in calming me down and in trying to get to the bottom of what was going on in my life for before writing prescriptions. He's one of those rare MD's who doesn't treat the patient like a piece of meat, but tries to understand what happening to them in the context of their lives. He is also a really astute diagnostician. I recently came back from a Mexico trip with bug bites and hives. Dr. Lee was able to diagnose the condition and reasoned through the possibilities better than the dermatology experts at Stanford Derm clinic. In short, a great doctor, a terrifc person.

Couldn't get an appointment.  4 Star Rating - Very good

I came in person on December 13th and explained that I was in a very bad shape and needed an appointment to at least be referred to blood tests.

The receptionist was very cold and unfriendly.
The only date I was given was - January 9th and thereafter.

I don't know anything about quality of this doctor, but I surely not going to see him when in urgent case his office would schedule an appointment in 4 weeks.

At the minimum he doesn't have time for me.

The Very Best  5 Star Rating - World class

Dr. Lee is a warm, non-judgemental, and thoroughly competent physician. He has relieved some problems I've had that other doctors couldn't diagnose. I like his holistic outlook and the fact that he considers all manner of treatment---not just going straight for a prescription drug.

He is the best!!!!!  5 Star Rating - World class

I don't think I've ever written a review for anyone or anything. I am just not the type. But I've been really impressed by Dr. Lee's professionalism, care, and expertiese that I am finding I can't resist doing this: He listens, he treats you like a human being instead of Case # N. He will give you sound advice, but he won't impose his preferences on you. And about not being accessable, my experience was just the opposite: I did not have an appointment, dropped by to get one, and was obviously very sick, when he stepped out of his office, he saw that I needed his attention sooner than later, he didn't hesitate to take me in as soon as he could.
I am so glad that I found him!

The Absolute Best There Is!  5 Star Rating - World class

Doctor Lee is the picture of professionalism, care and trust. Not only is he an incredibly skilled western medical physician, he also incorporates a vastly more holistic approach into his practice. On more than one occasion he has not prescribed anything but has instead offered sound advice on what was causing the issue and how to correct that instead. You can tell that he loves his job and really cares about his patients. I would and do recommend him all the time. There is not another more balanced and complete physician in the bay area.

A truly world class doctor with great interpersonal skills  5 Star Rating - World class

I can say first hand that Dr. Lee is an EXCEPTIONAL Doctor who cares greatly about his patients. I want say that Dr. Lee helped me recover from not only a serious lower back injury in 1997, but more recently a Very serious neck/ shoulder injury. He listened to me when nobody else would. My Family and I have been going to see him for approximately 16 years. I would never anywhere else.

Pro's: Listens and cares, goes above and beyond the call of duty.
Con's: None!!!

My favorite doctor  5 Star Rating - World class

I am very impressed with the personal attention I've gotten from Dr Lee. Specifically, everytime I've gone to see him he's always taken the time to ask me general health and lifestyle questions rather than just focusing on the symptoms I've come to complain about. He puts great value on sleep, nutrition, stress and other factors that my other doctors ignored. I greatly appreciate his holistic approach to health.

Recently, I had a sports injury that required a number of stitches. I called Dr Lee's office, not realizing that it was the doctor's day off. Because he happened to be in the office to meet with a vendor, the nurse asked him what I should do. He had me come in and stitched me up in the office on his day off so that I wouldn't have to go to the emergency room and wait all day. Not only was it his day off, but it was also his first week in his new location, so he had to expend additional effort finding the supplies he needed in all of his boxes. I very much appreciate that sort of dedication to his patients.

Be Careful!  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

Dr. Lee had violated ,my personal privacy. Be careful with your dealings with him. I specifically directed him to not release information about me to my children, but he ingored this directive and released information. He is not an ethical physician. He violated my personal privacy without contacting me. I am seeking legal ramifications.

A doctor who listens  5 Star Rating - World class

Dr. Richard Lee has been my GP since 2002. He completely changed my expectations of doctors by treating me like an intelligent, well-educated, trustworthy adult. He openly discusses each step of his diagnosis and what kind of treatments he recommends, listening to your input the entire time. He's open to treating things your way, and will usually give you a range of options their pros and cons.

Dr. Richard Lee is especially good for Silicon Valley engineer/career types. I've had illnesses which turn out to be typical of computer programmers, which he diagnosed immediately due to his long experience with people just like me. He also has expertise with high performance athletes of all sorts. My first visit, he drew me a picture of how to cut my toenails to minimize problems on 25-mile hikes.

Finally, Dr. Lee is just really smart. He has an eidetic memory, keeps up on the research, and can sort through it all to make a diagnosis in seconds. This is the guy you want working with you on your health.

In contrast to other reviewers, I've found it easier to get an appointment now that Dr. Lee has a private practice, partly because I don't have to fight my way through the Stanford maze of bureaucracy any more.

PROS: Extremely smart, excellent "bedside manner," keeps up on research
CONS: There's only one of him.

A Great General Practioner  5 Star Rating - World class

I have been seeing Dr. Lee for over 10 years. He has not only been a fantastic physician for me, but I have also heard rave reviews from everyone I've referred to him. Interestingly enough, he seems to be a good doctor to each of us for very different reasons. For me, he is really in tune with my life as a working mother of two. For my work colleague, Dr. Lee helps him prepare for his extreme hiking trips (since it turns out Dr. Lee has been on the medical team for at least one ascent attempt on Everest). And yet another friend of mine has a fear of doctors, but is very comfortable with Dr. Lee.

Basically, he takes the time to get to know you and works to make sure the care he provides is tailored to your life and your needs. (He is also one of the best OBGYN's in the area!) I stopped taking my kids to our pediatrician, and they now go see Dr. Lee as well.

He has recently opened up his own private practice in downtown Palo Alto (off of Cowper) and took his nurse with him (Cindy is fantastic too!)

PROS: Provides Excellent Care on a Personal Level
CONS: Since Opening a Private Practice, It Is Difficult to Get a Same-Day Appt
