4 Stars: a taste of thailand at boon chu (by Sarah C.)

Boon Chu is a former Chinese takeout place turned Thai. Its a small restaurant with the typical takeout counter and only a couple of tables. Maximum sitting capacity is probably approximately 12-15 people at best. Boon Chu is more authentic Thai than your standard Manhattan Thai restaurant fare. If you want it spicy, go to Boon Chu and request it Thai spicy. The chef will honor your request, but be forewarned that spicy means spicy! Some dishes enjoyed by my family include lard na (pan fried noodles with gravy), kanaa pad mhoo krob (Chinese broccoli stir fried with crispy pork), Isan sausage appetizer, and yum woon sen (vermicelli salad). The chicken/pork stirfry with basil is tasty, but a bit too greasy for my taste.

PROS: spicy, authentic thai
CONS: lacks space for big groups
