I would have loved a program like this as a kid: you go in, write a story, maybe draw some pictures to go along with it, and in the end you get a finished book. Younger authors also get to deal with a cranky publisher, who eventually praises them for their hard work. After school homework tutoring is also available, and many of the services are free.
PROS: Fun and affordable, gets kids interested in both reading and writing
CONS: "Secret Agent" storefront (a staple of national 826's) is still not open
