Red Hot Mama's

If you're heading to Haena area for the beach or a hike, don't count on picking up lunch at Red Hot Mama's. It may be open during the posted hours, or it may not. If it's not open there's not much else so you'll be pretty much out of luck for food options.

When we tried pick up lunch there on 8/30, it was still closed at 12:20 with several people waiting outside. We grabbed an excellent local avocado instead from the shop next door and some stale crackers (forgot to check the date) to eat with it.

This place is really not much to look at but their food is really good. They serve Mexican food here. I highly recommend their burritos and tacos although they do have salad too.

This is by far the best place to eat on the entire island. We tried to show up for dinner, but they seem to close in the afternoon sometime. We tried the next day around lunch time and found it to be open. The burrito was so big we did not even need to eat dinner. The hot sauce was mind blowing full of rich flavors, and then the sweat came off my forehead from the heat. The wait was about 30 minutes after ordering, but it was well worth it. Try it and you will be amazed.

This is a convenient restaurant for folks going to the end of the highway in the northern part of Kauai (such as Haena Pt). The food is relatively cheap and they have tasty and healthy food options. I had a veggie burrito which was quite good.
