La Tache

My friend used to live around the corner from here and we were excited to find this cute little bistro. It was a nice day so we thought we'd eat outside for brunch. The food was decent but the service was incredibly slow and somewhat rude. Since they had mimosas, I asked if they made bellinis, and the waiter not only didn't know what a bellini was (which is fine, I don't think they're that popular in Chicago) but acted affronted that I had asked for something that wasn't on the menu. Anyway, since the food was ok I went back a few months later. This time we sat inside, and the service was really slow despite the place being half-empty. Plus, there were a few flies buzzing around which was distracting and kind of icky.

First impressions were good--the interior of this restaurant was stylish and intimate, the menu interesting and the prices not outrageous. The food wasn't bad, and the desserts quite good. But, despite a nearly-empty restaurant, the service was astonishingly slow and later I discovered that the waitress had overcharged my credit card. An honest mistake, perhaps, but attempts to resolve the issue directly with the restaurant were met with no response. It seems that La Tache's service issues run deeper than one bad waitress. Given all of the other great restaurants in Andersonville, I'm not inclined to give them a second chance.

PROS: style, price
CONS: awful customer service
