Spacca Napoli

This is the only place in Chicago to get authentic Neapolitan-style pizza. The toppings are always incredibly high-quality and delicious, and the specials are thoughtful and imaginative without being pretentious. They have a pretty good dessert selection too. The focus is on authenticity, but I never found the service to be snobby in any way. It can be a little pricey, but it's not completely unreasonable considering the quality of the food. Also, they are very good about actually listening to you if you want something extra, on the side, etc, which is always appreciated.

This restaurant has more buzz than an overturned hornet's nest--it's been featured in Food & Wine and declared best new pizza by Chicago magazine. The hype keeps the place packed but, aside from the sidewalk, there is no waiting area.
We came in a group of four--with more to come--and the owner chastised us for not having our full party. I appreciate the logistical challenges a popular restaurant faces but a base requirement of service--especially at a pizza joint--is not to talk down to your customers. We decided to share some appetizers and order some pizzas to go.
The light thin-crust pizzas are a nice contrast to the kind of pizza that you usually find in this town, but I don't appreciate being condescended to. And, at the prices they charge for pizza, I'll save my money for a trip to Naples.
