What a beautiful place to find right in the heart of the city. Woodland Park is surrounded by houses and businesses, yet it gives the people of Seattle a quiet place to relax and enjoy nature. they have many varieties of plants and trees--and for the more active, a large number of tennis courts!

I grew up in the area going to the Woodland Park Zoo and never gave the name a second thought. The zoo is actually located in a huge park, Woodland Park to be exact! The park spans two sides of Hwy 99 and reaches to Green Lake. On the zoo side of the park, youll find a beautiful rose garden, the zoo, and a playground tucked into the Northwest corner. The play equipment is a bit dated but Ive rarely found crowds here! On the other side of Highway 99, youll find grassy fields, forested trails, tennis courts, baseball, soccer, BMX bike course, horseshoes, bocci fields, picnic shelters, and flush toilets. There are several parking lots scattered around the perimeter of the park. If you dont park near the feature you want to take advantage of, it could be a long walk. Cascade orienteering club sponsers a few orienteering meets at the park and theyre a great way to familiarize yourself with all it has to offer. They do one at night right around Halloween called a vampire-o. Some participants are given red flashlights and their goal is to shine their light on you and swap your punch card for their red light, turning you into a vampire.
PROS: lots to do
CONS: dated kids playground
