I graduated from the 8th grade as a student of DNS in 2000, which ended a 7 year span for me at the school (1st grade - 8th grade).I would recommend DNS to parents who are looking to place their children in an environment a bit more protected and sheltered from our standard society. The children learn Quran, Hadiths and other religious teachings which they carry with them into their adult lives.
On the flip side, in my several years at DNS, I always felt the pinch in regards to our access to resources. Especially when going on to high school and now college, it is nearly certain that a DNS graduate must do more to adjust to what comes next academically. While DNS may follow the same curricula of other prestigious private schools, I found the number of capable and impacting teachers to be very few in number.
However, even with its setbacks, I believe that schooling your children at Dar-un-Noor AND providing a interactive learning atmosphere at home can set a sound foundation for young Muslim children both religiously and academically. I stress mentioning the home because one can never discount the value of a caring and enlightening home to enrich a young Muslim child's mind, regardless of where they are schooled.
Salam and good luck. I hope this review helps any concerned parents.
PROS: Superb religious environment compared to standard public schools
CONS: Staff's experience is questionable. Limited extra curriculum activities.
