Our beloved hound of 11 years began showing serious signs of aging several years ago. Her eyes had clouded, she was getting mass cell tumors more frequently, and was starting to lose her balance. Two days after her 11th birthday, while I was covering her with her blanket, as I'd done every day, her teeth tore into my hand and she didn't let go. Looking into her eyes, it just wasn't 'her.' It was time.
We made the appointment at Banfield on University and Snelling and visited them for the first time. The compassionate staff immediately took us to a private room to be alone with her. Throughout the entire process, the techs and the vet were kind to our pooch, letting us know what to expect and giving us the time with her until we were ready.
Even after she had passed on, they were gentle with her, wrapping her arm and adjusting her in the blanket. Their kindness carried over to us and both the vet and the tech walked us to the car, where the vet carried her and tenderly laid her in her bed.
They GET it, and if they are that kind to a pet that has passed and her grieving owners, rest assured we will be entrusting them with the medical care our next pooch, a while from now, when we're ready.
