I find it funny that there are so many complaints here but no one has posted a single complaint on the BBB since 1992 and the company has an A+ rating......hmmmmm

In 30 years of hiring contractors to perform work in commercial buildings, I can honestly say that Cal-Coast Repiping is the most unethical company I have dealt with. They would not fulfill their contractual duties on the one job I hired them to do. They would rather spend time in court than perform the work correctly. The owner did not seem to understand plumbing systems I think Ed, the salesman, has huge anger issues. He completely flipped out when I complained about their workmanship. I would never hire them again. It looks like all of the good reviews are written by their own personnel and are all 10 to 20 years old. It still amazes me they are in business.

I had a re-plumb job completed by Cal Coast on 11/7/07, I got 2 bids, Ca Coast was higher but I thought I'd get a better job as their estimator seemed very good. I was told 2 days to comlete, it ended up to be 6 days of which the water off for 2 days. I then had a leak and although they out right away another one developed 3 days later in the garage, they forgot to join a fitting, if it had been inside I would have got flooded out. This time Ed came out to look as I insisted they check everything, my wife was home and said sexually suggestive comments to her, she told him to leave & called the office to complain the owner got on the phone and told me Ed would never do that, the owner was very defensive with me & acted like he could care less. I called another plumber and spent $274.33 to fix the leak and check the rest of the job. I will NEVER call Cal Coast again.

Well it looks like all of these postings are finally working. The rumor is that Cal Coast Repiping is going out of business. It??s reminiscent of Chuck Vershaw??s failure of Sears Copper Repiping in the ??90??s. Here are some of the things we??ve heard:

They??re being is investigated for false advertising, breach of contract, lack of plumbing design work and failure to consider structural integrity.

Their hiring practices (of possibly illegal workers) are being looked into.

They are under investigation for safety violations; such as lack of training and hazardous material violations.

They were charged by the Los Angeles City Attorney??s Environmental Justice Unit, with 9 counts of violating asbestos emission rules.

He no longer advertises in the Los Angeles Times.

Ed Michaud??s anger got the best of him and he assaulted a customer.

If you have a claim or warranty issue, you should act soon. Cal Coast Repiping??s bond is only $12,500, with American Contractors Indemnity Company (800 486-6695).

Chuck Vershaw has started a new company by the name of T A Z Plumbing Company. Obviously we can??t recommend using them and he knows we??ll watch this company closely.

I think the good guys finally won against an UNETHICAL company and its dishonest owners.

I too had a terrible experience with Cal-Coast Repiping. The workmanship is awful and the customer service is non-existent. I did some research and I believe I found how Cal-Coast operates. I found articles that show that they hire homeless people through the Salvation Army. They teach them how to solder copper and fix drywall and let them loose on your home. One foreman on each job directs them the best they can. As you can tell, no experience is necessary. This explains the burnt studs, broken fixtures, cracked sinks and sloppy wall repairs. The owner Chuck Vershaw gets in good with apartment and plumbing associations so he looks like he knows something about what his company is doing. Not so, when I questioned him on issues, he just spewed out answers like he was an authority. Since I knew what I was talking about, he looked pretty stupid, but I couldn?t help to think how many innocent people he has swindled. Ed Michaud, the salesman, is a very angry individual. I too, have seen his wrath. He blames the homeowners for his crews? screw-ups and he does this at the top of his lungs. Just stay away from Cal-Coast and hire a real professional.

These repipers are the worst. They pulverized my sprinkler system in 4 places while they were laying my water main... and even blamed me for it. They also layed the water main barely 10 inches below the ground which is not to code. It should be buried much deeper. Now I can't plant or dig in the area. They left my planters in shambles and did not pay for the damages. Nor are they paying to have the water main redone! Do not trust these crooks! When I called to advise them of the problem, they all ganged up on me and blamed me for all the problems. The worst company I have ever dealt with! I urge all others who had problems with this company to file a complain with the Better Business Bureau. I took the time to do it and you should, too. It will help others from having to deal with this company.

Dealing with Cal Coast Re-piping was a nightmare for me. I thought their workmanship was shoddy, their employees were rude and they don?t do what they?ll say they?ll do. There is absolutely no pride in their work. Do yourself a favor and don?t hire Cal Coast Re-piping.

My pipes bang whenever the dishwasher, the washing machine or sprinklers run. They have made several trips out, but refuse the fix the problem. The owner Chuck Vershaw tells me it?s normal. I should have known I?d have problems. From the beginning the plumbers were arguing with the Foreman. Also the Foreman told me that since the underground portion of the piping was not on his paper work, I would have to dig my own trench or else they wouldn?t connect my piping to the city supply. I couldn?t believe it. I had the same experience as other writers regarding their ?Customer No-Service? and the vulgar replies when I tried to explain things to Ed Michaud. Chuck Vershaw, the owner, has only one line - pay or I?ll sue.

It?s my opinion that you shouldn?t use this contractor or believe their advertising. With my experience they did not do things the way their website and literature describes. I feel that they took advantage of me. I ended up hiring a handyman to fix my plumbing and repair my walls.

PROS: None at all.
CONS: In my opinion they are a very UNETHICAL company

It looked like the crew was comprised of one foreman and a bunch of day laborers. The quality of their work was awful. My walls were opened with hammers; and, at every solder joint, my studs were charred. The wall patches did not match my walls and Ed Michaud completely lost it when I ask him to fulfill their contract and correct their mistakes. He just yelled that they?ll put a lien on my house if I refused to pay them. It was pretty scary. Cal Coast does a lot of work in California and future customers need to be informed. After everything that I went through, it is my opinion that this company should never be used.

PROS:
CONS: They'll destroy your house, just like they did mine.

My experience with Cal Coast Repiping was horrible. I took a day off of work and when they arrived they didn't have the correct supplies. When they came back 2 weeks later, the crew did not work well together and the workmanship was so shoddy that 2 return trips were required to repair and reposition many of the valves and faucets. The worst part was the drywall repair. The texture did not match my existing walls. Their own contract was not followed and the company would not back up their work. When their supervisor came to look at the work, he became belligerent and was cursing in front of my 2 kids. When I reduced their bill for the damages, they put a lien on my home and filed a case against me. Their workmanship and customer service is the worst I?ve ever seen. Cal Coast is the absolutely most unethical company I have ever dealt with. In addition, they were charged by the Los Angeles City Attorney?s Environmental Justice Unit, with 9 counts of violating asbestos emission rules.

PROS: None
CONS: Everything they touched. False Advertising, you name it.
