In December of last year, I was fortunate to be selected to participate in The Outdoor Room with the good looking Jamie Durie. My old grass battered backyard got the makeover our family needed.
During the filming, I noticed a driveway full of lush bamboo, magnolias and many others to be planted in the new backyard I had not yet seen. They were all labeled with the "Monrovia Nursery" tags. The giant Monrovia truck pulled up with these beautiful plants and carefully left them for the magic.
It is now February, and the plants are still there and thriving. I had a little trouble with the bamboo, which looked like they might not make it, but these past rains have since revived them. I'm hoping to see new leaves soon.
The most exciting plants in the backyard are the two tiny fig trees with fruit. They are beginning to sprout and I can't wait to taste the delicious fruit.
I would estimate that I received at least 20 new species of sustainable plants in my new backyard.
Stay tuned to watch the episode of this makeover in March of 2010. You'll see me and my three children here in Torrance, excitedly experiencing our once in a lifetime makeover. The Ojai experience!
