Very satisfied in the work performed there...honest and skilled mechanics and the entire staff is personable and willing to listen and then to make sure you are a happy customer when you leave the door. They make it a point to make sure

I'll preface this by saying they had done good work for me once before. That said, I will never take my car there again. \n\nThey did some electrical work on my 240D and were very prompt about calling as other problems were discovered. When I got the car back, the stereo didn't work (it worked when I gave them the car). When I called to ask them to fix the stereo they had broken, they were less prompt about returning my call. When they did get around to calling me back, they told me it required a reset from a Mercedes dealer (not true) and they couldn't do it in the shop. \n\nBasically, collateral damage to the car incurred during repairs is not their problem because they don't fix stereos (airtight logic). I whined about it for a while and kept calling and eventually the owner of the shop got back to me (hence two stars instead of one) and said I could bring the car in the following week. Because going there again sounded like a waste of 3 hours of my life and another day or two without my car, I had my friend take a look at it. He took the stereo out and then hooked it up again. After that, it worked fine.\n\nI would recommend MBI Motors or Rip City Auto for better service, prices, and professional responsibility.

MY BEST RECOMMANDATION FOR THIS SHOP THEIR STAFF AND ITS OWNER RALF, WHO IS A MODEL OF THE BUSINESSMAN THAT SHOULD BE FOLLOWED.\r\n\r\nSINCERELY!\r\nMIRSAD OSMIC,

Bad/poor service. Took several weeks for a simple repair. Poor communication not reccommended. Parts were overpriced.

Had an issue with my beloved VW Golf. Hated the dealership, they were dishonest and uber expensive. When we had an issue with an odd electrical smell in the car, I looked for options.\n\nGerman Formula has excellent reviews for a reason. They are friendly, super quick, well priced and they take that extra step to make you happy. \n\nTook the VW in yesterday for an oil change and part replacement to deal with the electrical issue. The bill came in under what I was quoted and they replaced the battery in my key (its been dead for 2 years & the dealership quoted $130 to replace the key) for a mere $10.\n\nI couldn't be happier. Thanks to all at German Formula for taking the fear out of car maintenance/repair.

We have been taking our older BMW 740 to German Formula for more than two years. They always have provided flawless service including accurate diagnoses and honest options to cure the vehicle's occasional ills. We feel we always get more than our money's worth. \r\n\r\nI guess the ultimate proof is that we just bought another BMW and didn't look at any other makes, significantly motivated by the knowledge we have a cost effective and honest mechanic shop in German Formula.\r\n\r\nI wish there were some negative to share so this review would seem more believable but quite simply, these guys rock. Next German car crisis give them a shot.

Robert has fixed my car numerous times, and has always done a great job. He is thorough and knowledgeable, and is happy to explain everything in detail and answer all my questions.\n\nThe other employees are always friendly and helpful, as well, and make it a pleasure to go there. \n\nThey have recently remodeled the office, and it looks great. A big improvement!

I am a loyal customer of German Formula for 4 years now. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you at German Formula for the great job you have done to my Jetta. Modification with aftermarket parts are nightmare to most Mechanics; but with your experience and knowledge, you have once again made the nightmare to sweet dream. \n\nI am so glad that the one month long project includes fender flare, new paint job, and suspension upgrade was done within budget and time frame. The body work is flawless and the car runs perfect. \n\nThank you for your patience and valuable advice while dealing with a picky and demanding customer likes me.

I took my BMW to this shop and was quoted repair prices for each of the items that needs to be taken care of it. When I finally wanted to pick up the car the bill was almost $1000 higher. You draw your own conclusion. \n\nUpdate: German Formula refused to accept payment via credit card and demanded cash instead.

What can I say about German Formula except AWESOME!\n\nI have been taking my BMWs to them for almost 2 decades. First a 5 Series, then a 7 Series and now a 3 Series.\n\nThey are always fair, honest, professional and get it done right the first time.\n\nOver the years, they have actually SAVED me money by catching things that were close to needing repair as well as...and more importantly...NOT repairing things that were fine just because they could.\n\nRalf runs a great shop and the remodel he is going through right now is top notch. The interior will really match the beautiful exterior when he's done.\n\nBrooke at the front is fantastic, the guys in the shop are awesome and Luke in the body shop is a master.\n\nLuke recently completed work on my Jeep Grand Cherokee that was spot on perfect. He works great with your insurance company to get you what you need and put your ride back to BETTER than before.\n\nAs long as I own a BMW, they will be the only shop in town to get my business. And now that Roman is back from his sojourn working on Ferraris, Lambos, Spykers, Astin Martins and other exotics, Ralf has the A-Team.\n\nDon't be a fool...trust your ride to German Formula.

My C230 was clunking when I stopped - another garage in town actually asked me how much gas I had in my tank when it made the noise, as if it was gasoline sloshing... they couldn't even find the problem. \nRalf's team at GF diagnosed the problem in about 30 minutes - my transmission is worn out. Not only were they efficient, but they told me about an option that would save me money and buy time until I am ready to have it rebuilt (drive in the winter setting). Very cool. \nWhen I finally do have to have it rebuilt, you can bet I'm letting these guys do the work. \n

I've had a bunch of work done with both Bart and Luke, and every time its been exceptional. I recently had to replace the hood on my '97 Volvo, and Luke was great about looking for the best and cheapest parts, going out out his way to get me good prices, and doing a fantastic job of putting everything back together. The car looks like new, and most importantly, I've had no further problems with it. \n\nHaving dealt with larger shops and dealerships in the past, I'm certain that German Formula is my shop in Portland. \n\nThese guys are honest, they know what they're doing, and they are definitely who I trust to be working on my car. Highly recommended.

This shop is consistently so good for the past three years, I feel personally obligated to give them a good word. \n\nWhat are my major fears when getting Volkswagen repaired by the DEALER?\n\n1. They'll be rude and not listen to requests (i.e. they take my business for granted)\n2. They do poor quality work.\n3. They charge a FORTUNE!\n4. The lube boys steal my car off the lot and go for a joy ride.\n\nHow is German Formula different?\n\n1. They are always nice and listen to your needs carefully.\n2. They are qualified. They even show you exactly what they did with your own eyes.\n3. Their prices are fantastic. I saved over 50% compared to what the dealer just quoted me (I called afterwards just to compare).\n4. They give you a better selection of parts. If they don't have exactly the brand you want, they will order it and have it there the next day. \n5. They respect your property. I have never thought twice about leaving my car with them. The people there are mature and respectful. \n\nThe girl at the front desk is so nice!\n

Just replaced front air springs (dyi) on my '03 Audi allroad and needed to have the allignment done. Found German Formula on city search and decided to give them a try based on the reviews. After my visit I would say that the reviews here seem to be mostly accurate. The office person, Brook, is very nice; they seem to do good work; they serviced my car the same day I called to inquire; and they were done when they said they would be. \r\n\r\nI do have a couple of objections though. 1. They sent my car to be serviced be an outside alignment shop without telling me upfront. (I am very uncomfortable with people working on my car unless I know/trust them and can watch. I know this personality trait is not conducive to having a shop do work.but it gets even worse when I can't even see the facility doing the job.) 2. They underestimated their cost of the outsourced work and asked to pass that extra cost on to me. The 4 wheel alignmet was quoted at $80 and they asked me to pay $95 after it was done. However, they were willing to honor the quoted price without any mess or fuss, so I got my car back for the $80 agreed on. 3. The steering wheel is not quite centered when driving a straight line. It is only off by a degree or two; I didn't even notice it until I was halfway home, and it is minor enough that I am not even sure if i will be taking it back to be re-done. I'll give it a couple of days to see if it actually bothers me.\r\n\r\nOverall, I think that I will be returning to German Formula for future work that is beyond my dyi skill level. Though I will ask if they will be doing the work or outsourcing it. Like all auto-shops they are a business and there to make a proffit (so trust them as far as you are willing to) but German Formula does not seem like one of ""THOSE"" shops that needs to avoided at all costs. I would recomend them to a friend.

I just moved to Portland and had some damage to my car from towing it across country. I called German Formula and asked about an appointment. They had me drop my car off that day and had it ready the next. Everyone was very nice and professional. Their costs were very reasonable and much less than the dealership. I will not take my car anywhere else!

The bad news? 2 trips to the body shop in a year. The good news? Car looks great, better than pre-accident(s) even. Straight, even seams, great paint, easy to work with, clean. No question where I'm going should the 5 series get bent again. Thanks to Ralf, Luke and Brooke!

I had my bmw worked on at this shop few months ago and not till know I didnt see that they did such a crapy job. After my last check up at the bmw they found out bunch of washers stuck under my hood hinges which were not even painted, just so they could adjust it right so it looks good from the outside. I am not sure if they didn't want spend more time doing quality work or this is just the way they do things there. NOT GOING THERE AGAIN.

Great service from Bryan of German Formula! Took my C-280 in to check a sensor light. I was treated with respect. As a female going into auto repair shops I have come to expect that the guys will talk over me and not listen, however not in this case! Bryan took the time to speak to me about what was going on, tell me what he was going to do, then actually fixed the problem. In the end it was just a small fix. He was honest and fair. I will continue to take all my cars for repairs there even the non german ones.

I have been a customer of German Formula for more than 25 years. I have never written a review for them, but after reading a recent review, I feel I need to respond to this.\r\n\r\nI own a Mercedes 300D and I depend on German Formula to take care of me and my car. And, they always have. I am very happy with their service and can only recommend them. Over the last 25 years, I have had both mechanical service and body work done, always to my satisfaction. Ralf (the owner) has always been fair to me and honest. The charges for the work done have been reasonable. And, believe me, I watch out for the cost and check up on it. \r\n\r\nIt's good to have a place I can depend on and can trust for my car work. So, reading these complaints makes me wonder just how accurate they are since my experience with them has been totally different.

In follow-up to your response, I certainly DID pay for the rock chip repairs. And the dent on the hood--well there was no dent. I was also very understanding that I needed to bring my car back after the paint had cured. That wasn't the issue. My dissatisfaction came with having to return several times for various issues such as paint overspray, rebuffing, blending lines, just general sloppiness. Many times it had been returned dirty and grimy, to include the interior. I spent hours on it wiping grease and grime from the seats, steering wheel, dash, etc. \r\n\r\nAside from this particular insurance claim, I also brought the car in for front end noise only to be told there was nothing wrong. Maybe my business was no longer welcome, as clearly there was something wrong with the car. The noise was very evident and why your mechanic couldn't hear them is beyond me. It turned out to be the stabilizer links and bushings diagnosed immediately at another shop. Yet another job well done, right? \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

German Formula was recommended to me by a German friend who is also a mechanic (although he works on motorcycles). I have visited German Formula three times and each time they are very friendly to me and explain all the charges throughly BEFORE they perform the maintenance. I especially appreciate this because I am a woman and many garages in the past have tried to talk down to me or, worse, don't even bother to explain processes. I am also a student, so I am on a budget. I explained this and they did the necessary work, but made recommendations for work I would need soon - they didn't pressure me or lie to me to try and get me to spend the money NOW. I highly recommend this garage to anyone looking for straight-talk and honest work.

I went on line and found German Formula and its excellent reviews and that is why I came to the shop today. The mechanic who worked on my car is nice to talk to and does know what he is talking about. He can go into detail and explain things if needed. I was there the whole time while they perform the work. \r\n
\r\nEverything went well except the part where they charge you. A job that take actual 2 and half hour of on the job was charged at 4 and half hour. The hourly rates are reasonable but they charge the 'book hours', I guess its been a while I been to a independent auto shop. I always though you charge what your time is spend working on or associate with the job .... a warning... The explanation to me goes by some jobs are harder and some are easier and to even and 'fair', we charge whats on the book... I guess I was not lucky to be on that end of stick ..\r\n\r\n
\r\n\r\nI would add the everyone I talk to are very nice... I would give a much higher rating if I were not being over charged. I still believe in you pay what you get... If I consider paying the same... I would shop around for more.. So believe in what you read and research more.\r\n\r\n\r\nOverall service .. Above average\r\nFriendliness of the place ... Yes \r\nReasonable charges.. No.. not for me\r\nWould I go back again.. hmm.....

I am new to Portland, but need my BMW brakes checked soon. I called the local dealer and found no openings until next week. I used City Search to find a well reccomened service repair, German Formula. Stefan got me in the same day. I got a call by 3pm, that my car was ready. My car drives great. Thanks, Guys.

My car is a volkswagen new beetle. Last weekend, it broke down in the middle of Barbur Blvd because the axle fell out from the car. I called the toweling company and had them come to get the car. I called German Formula. They were not supposed to be open on Saturday, but they took it in anyways. They also helped me get a really good deal on renting a car from The Dollar Rental. My car was fixed two days later. The price was very fair and reasonable and people were so friendly and nice. I've been to a lot of car repair places, but at German Formula, I had the most wonderful experience. I really appreciate their help, and they are very professional and honest.

I have been taking my car to this shop for the better part of 6 years and I have never once had anything less then extraordinary service from them. the management actually care about the customers and the mechanics are more then willing to explain any questions that may arise about your vehicle. They even give me a ride back home or to work when I needed to leave my car there for an extended period of time. There service and speed is beaten by no one and I highly recommend anyone to bring their car to German formula to experience the high level of customer service that is seldom seen in today?s mechanic shops

This is a pretty good shop where I have had the pleasure of taking all of my BMW's for all of its service. I'm sure I've spent well over 10,000 in total over the years. Their quality of work is certainly sufficient. The mechanics will happily explain the service and any questions. The facility they occupy isn?t the best in the business but it is unquestionably adequate. However, I hear they plan to remodel shortly. If you want a place to take your vehicle where you don?t feel the overwhelming sense of a dealership, this is your place.
